The revolt of the mnemonic warriors : mnemonic constitutionalism, mnemocracy, and making contested legacy a true story by Law and Justice (PiS)
No full textIn this chapter, the phenomenon of the revolt of Law and Justice’s mnemonic warriors is analysed through the conceptual lens of Michael Bernhard’s and Jan Kubik’s theory of the politics of memory in conjunction with Tímea Drinoczi’s and Agnieszka Bień-Kacała’s account of mnemonic constitutionalism. First, the chapter offers a conceptual framework of mnemonic warriors and the nature of mnemonic warfare as evidenced the Law and Justice’s memory politics regarding the real meaning of the 1989 democratic transformation. Further on, the chapter unpacks the rationale of the true patriots vs. deceitful elite narrative launched by Law and Justice concerning the policy of historical truth. Finally, the bringing of the judiciary under the control of the people – Law and Justice’s flagship project in its drive towards mnemocracy – is investigated
Between two worlds : dybbuks and doppelgängers in the works of Deborah Levy and Damon Galgut
No full textThe works of Damon Galgut and Deborah Levy, who are two representatives of the third generation of South African Jewish writers, are populated by spectres: doppelgängers and dybbuks, in particular. Suffice it to mention the character of Rachel, whose ghost observes the washing of her recently deceased body (The Promise); Reiner, Damon’s travelling companion and his double who might be interpreted as a suppressed part of the narrator’s own self (In a Strange Room); or Kitty Finch, who is possessed by Józef Nowogrodzki’s sister killed in the Kulmhof concentration camp, and whose task is to prepare the latter for his own death (Swimming Home). The chapter intends to address a variety of functions (formal, thematic, etc.) that these “spectres” play in Galgut’s and Levy’s works and how the figure of the doppelgänger/dybbuk allows the writer to problematise not only the unwanted presence of the traumatic past but also one’s disjunct, split, and ultimately spectral subjectivity. Special attention will be paid to the way in which Galgut’s and Levy’s “ghosts” testify to the sustainability of Central European Jewish memory and heritage in the literary and cultural space of South Africa
Digital hygiene among teachers
No full textThe aim of the study was to diagnose the level of digital hygiene among teachers in Poland. The study was also intended to reveal the factors (socio-demographic variables) that differentiate the level of attitudes and activities enabling the safe use of digital devices and the Internet. The research was conducted using the digital hygiene test and was carried out in the second half of 2023 in Poland (N = 736) in line with the need to strengthen the skills enabling the use of new technologies in a way that does not threaten digital health and safety. Based on the data collected, it was noted that (1) the surveyed teachers most often drew attention to not using the phone in a situation requiring attention, e.g., crossing a road or a track. In addition, very frequent behaviors included not accepting unknown people as friends, limited trust in links and content on the Internet, and conscious digital footprint actions; (2) the least frequent behaviors were the physical disinfection of smartphones, avoiding using phones before bedtime, and actively responding to negative content posted on the Internet; (3) individual digital hygiene activities are rarely correlated in a significant way, suggesting high internal differentiation; (4) having good ICT habits in one area does not guarantee the same in another area; (5) cluster analysis showed that 9% of teachers have a high level of digital hygiene in selected areas; (6) 44% of teachers have varying levels of digital hygiene, while 46.2% have medium or low levels of digital hygiene; (7) gender does not differentiate digital hygiene levels; and (8) workplace and school type is a factor in digital hygiene levels

No full textThere has been an increased awareness of the hazardous properties of certain chemicals in recent years, and hexavalent chromium has hazardous properties that are recognized both in the United States and in the European Union. Several compounds containing this species have traditionally been used in school chemistry laboratories, and there is a need to find alternatives. In this article, a way to perform precipitation titration of chloride in seawater without the use of potassium chromate as the indicator is presented. A microscale titration activity that uses hydrogen phosphate and thymolphthalein as indicators was developed, and the activity contains a motivation part where the students are presented with a problem, a case where they must help an oceanographer identify her mixed samples. The activity was tested not only by high school students but also with chemistry teachers as well. Feedback from students and teachers indicates that the laboratory activity is enjoyable and easy to perform and that the chemistry is in alignment with high school curricula in the Nordic countries
Animators Against War (AAW) : aesthetics and message
No full textThis article analyses the aesthetics, narrative structure, and social function of short-form protest animated films created by the collective Animators Against War (AAW) in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Collaged combinations of photographs, graphics, and sound build poignant images in which meaning emerges at the intersection of documentary and metaphor. Particular attention is paid to an episode dedicated to political prisoners, which takes the form of a documentary short, combining realistic testimonies with a subjective, emotional reconstruction of reality. The article highlights the potential of animation as a medium of emotional truth, capable of transcending the boundaries of traditional documentary by visualising experience, trauma, and memory. The presence of the analysed forms in the landscape of contemporary social media shows how microformats and short video forms draw from both the logic of digital communication and the tradition of attraction cinema and propaganda. AAW animated films are interpreted here as acts of resistance and testimonies of war that use available digital tools to shape an alternative political message, document reality, and foster social mobilisation
