Comunità inclusive e gestione collettiva dei beni

    No full text

    No full text

Language Variation and Urban Space: A Sociolinguistic Study of Immigrants in Naples (Italy)

    No full text
This study investigates interethnic variation in language behavior among three immigrant groups—Sri Lankans, Ukrainians, and Senegalese—residing in Naples, Italy. Drawing on sociolinguistic and macro-demographic frameworks, it explores the relationship between language practices and external variables such as residential patterns, occupational segregation, and intra-urban mobility. Using data collected through a sociolinguistic questionnaire administered within the HELLO CAMPANIA! project, the analysis combines qualitative insights and statistical methods (Chi-square, Cramér’s V, and Kruskal-Wallis tests) to assess self-reported language dominance, heritage language maintenance, and Italian language proficiency across a sample of 74 first-generation migrants. Findings reveal statistically significant correlations between ethnic group and perceived Italian language proficiency, independent of length of residence in Italy. Ukrainians demonstrated the highest self-assessed Italian proficiency and the strongest shift toward the majority language, while Sri Lankans showed the highest rates of heritage language maintenance. These patterns are interpreted in light of different residential and social dynamics: Ukrainians are more spatially and socially mobile, Senegalese maintain strong intra-group networks within economically marginalized districts, and Sri Lankans exhibit high levels of spatial concentration and limited linguistic contact beyond their ethnic community. The study also highlights the influence of neighborhood typology—standard-speaking affluent areas versus dialect-speaking disadvantaged districts—on language learning trajectories, as well as the impact of job type on daily linguistic exposure. These findings extend previous models of language maintenance and shift (e.g., Chini & Andorno, 2018) by situating them in the underexplored southern Italian urban context, and argue for a more nuanced understanding of language behavior as shaped by the intersection of spatial, social, and economic dimensions

Esc peptides and derivatives potentiate the activity of CFTR with gating defects and display antipseudomonal activity in cystic fibrosis-like lung disease

    No full text
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a rare disease caused by mutations in the gene encoding the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), a chloride channel with an important role in the airways. Despite the clinical efficacy of present modulators in restoring the activity of defective CFTR, there are patients who show persistent pulmonary infections, mainly due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Recently, we reported an unprecedented property of antimicrobial peptides i.e. Esc peptides, which consists in their ability to act as potentiators of CFTR carrying the most common mutation (the loss of phenylalanine 508) affecting protein folding, trafficking and gating. In this work, by electrophysiology experiments and computational studies, the capability of these peptides and de-novo designed analogs was demonstrated to recover the function of other mutated forms of CFTR which severely affect the channel gating (G551D and G1349D). This is presumably due to direct interaction of the peptides with the nucleotide binding domains (NBDs) of CFTR, followed by a novel local phenomenon consisting in distancing residues located at the cytosolic side of the NBDs interface, thus stabilizing the open conformation of the pore at its cytosolic end. The most promising peptides for the dual antimicrobial and CFTR potentiator activities were also shown to display antipseudomonal activity in conditions mimicking the CF pulmonary ion transport and mucus obstruction, with a higher efficacy than the clinically used colistin. These studies should assist in development of novel drugs for lung pathology in CF, with dual CFTR potentiator and large spectrum antibiotic activities

A Scoping Review of the Psychological Perspectives on Online Volunteering

    No full text
Online volunteering is distinguishable from in-presence volunteering due to its procedural nature as being partially or totally online. Over the past decades, scholars within psychology have been interested in understanding the online volunteering process. However, while bringing attention to the phenomenon, psychology still has to manifest concentrated engagement with online volunteerism. This review seeks to situate the study of online volunteerism in psychology. Using the scoping review approach, the paper maps the psychological perspectives on online volunteering based on sources collected via structured search on PsychInfo, Scopus and Web of Science (N = 14). First, it outlines the definitions, theories and evidence-based knowledge of online volunteering. Second, the paper discusses the role of the psychology of online volunteering and its prominent contributions for such a form of volunteerism in documenting, reinforcing and mobilising processes at the individual and social levels. The paper concludes by setting new vistas for research and practices

Kinematic Outcomes of Early-Stage Passive Rehabilitation in Subject Undergoing Knee Arthroplasty

    No full text
The analysis of rehabilitative treatment outcomes, especially in orthopedics, can be subject to inaccuracies due to the reliance on qualitative assessments by physiatrists and therapists. This study aims to confidently identify quantitative kinematic indices obtained from inertial analyses that better describe the effectiveness of a passive rehabilitative treatment in subjects undergoing knee arthroplasty surgery due to osteoarthritis. The APDM Mobility Lab system was used for data collection, with a configuration of three OPAL Sensors (IMUs). The effectiveness of the rehabilitative treatment was assessed through a statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Test. The results demonstrate an extremely significant difference in the following spatio-temporal metrics: RoMKnee and Duration (APA). Seven out of fifteen metrics showed significant or highly significant differences, while six metrics showed non-significant differences. Improvements in lower limb mobility and prosthetic knee range of motion are achieved at the end of the passive rehabilitation treatment, supported by a precise and quantitative accelerometric analysis. Integrating these methodologies into the qualitative analysis of rehabilitation treatment may be of particular relevance for the evaluation of rehabilitation outcome.Clinical Relevance- This study demonstrates the efficacy of quantitative inertial analysis in objectively assessing rehabilitative outcomes after knee arthroplasty. The findings highlight the early improvements in lower limb mobility and knee range of motion following passive rehabilitation. These findings provide clinicians with reliable, data-driven metrics to complement traditional qualitative evaluations and enhance treatment strategies
