The use of artificial intelligence and technologies in recruitment and selection processes: A qualitative research
Günümüzde yapay zekanın kullanımı her alanda giderek artmaktadır. İnsan kaynakları yönetimindeki işe alım süreçlerinde de teknolojinin gelişmesine bağlı olarak, yapay zekâ teknolojilerinin kullanımı görülmektedir. Yapay zekâ, işe alım süreçlerinde aday havuzunu genişletmek, başvuruları değerlendirmek ve en uygun adayları seçmek için giderek daha fazla kullanılmaktadır. Yapay zekâ tabanlı sistemler; özgeçmiş taraması, yetenek değerlendirmesi ve mülakat süreçlerinde hem zaman hem de maliyet tasarrufu sağlamakta, insan hatasını azaltarak daha objektif ve adil sonuçlar elde edilmesine katkıda bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca, yapay zekâ algoritmaları, adayların beceri ve yetkinliklerini analiz ederek, gelecekteki performanslarını öngörme konusunda da işverenlere yardımcı olmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, insan kaynakları yönetiminde, işe alım sürecinde yapay zekanın kullanımı ele alınmaktadır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği ile elde edilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini gönüllü olarak çalışmaya katılan kamu ve özel sektörde çalışmakta olan insan kaynakları profesyonelleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; özel sektörde yapay zekâ kullanımının, kamu sektörüne göre daha fazla olduğu belirlenmiştir. Katılımcılar genel olarak; yapay zekanın işe alım süreçlerinde kullanımı konusunda, zaman ve maliyet tasarrufu sağladığını, adil ve önyargısız değerlendirmeler konusunda yardımcı olduğunu belirtmektedir. Ek olarak, bu süreçlerde insan faktörünün özellikle organizasyon-birey ve organizasyona uyum konularında değerlendirmelerde önemli rol oynadığı da ortaya konulmaktadır.The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly prevalent in various fields today. In human resources management, the application of AI technologies is also becoming more common in recruitment processes due to technological advancements. AI is increasingly being utilized to expand the candidate pool, evaluate applications, and select the most suitable candidates. AI-based systems provide both time and cost savings in resume screening, talent assessment, and interview processes, contributing to more objective and fair outcomes by reducing human error. Furthermore, AI algorithms assist employers by analyzing candidates' skills and competencies to predict their future performance. In this study, the use of artificial intelligence in human resources management and recruitment process is discussed. Qualitative research method was used in the research. Data were obtained using semi-structured interview technique. The sample of the research consists of human resources professionals working in the public and private sectors who participated in the study voluntarily. According to the research results, it has been determined that the use of artificial intelligence in the private sector is higher than in the public sector. Participants generally state that the use of artificial intelligence in recruitment processes saves time and cost and helps in fair and unbiased evaluations. In addition, it is revealed that the human factor plays an important role in the evaluations of these processes, especially in the issues of organization-individual and adaptation to the organization
Prediction of performance parameters of a hermetic reciprocating compressor under different discharge lift limiter heights by machine learning
The research examines the complex correlation between discharge valve properties in severe temperature circumstances, ranging from 54.4 degrees C to -23.3 degrees C, in accordance with ASHRAE operational guidelines. The design parameters include examining valve thicknesses of 0.127, 0.152, 0.178, and 0.2 mm, together with lengths of 14.722, 16.222, and 17.722 mm, at compressor speeds of 1300, 2100, and 3000 rpm. An artificial neural network (ANN) is used to replicate the output properties of a hermetic reciprocating compressor, which include the ratio of cooling capacity to compression power and volumetric efficiency. One hundred and eleven numerically recorded datasets are used to train the developed ANN model. The model is trained using 77 datasets, validated using 17 datasets, and tested using 17 datasets. The LM-type ANN approach is used to train the multilayer perception neural network, which consists of a hidden layer with 15 neurons. Given the proximity of the margin of deviations (MoDs) to the 0% deviation line, the variances between the ANN and fluid-structure interaction outcomes for the cooling capacity to compression power ratio and volumetric efficiency are insignificant. The average figures for the MoD output have been calculated as -0.18% and 0.06, respectively. Not only do the data points lie on the line, indicating a 0% error, but they also fall inside the interval, indicating a 10% error. In addition, the mean squared error and correlation coefficient values for the ANN model that was created are 2.04E-03 and 0.99853, respectively
Evaluation of defects occuring on a production line with Pareto Analysis and Control Chart
Nüfusun artması ihtiyaçları, ihtiyaçların artması üretimi genişletmiştir. Bu ihtiyaçlardan bir tanesi de beyaz eşyalardır. Beyaz eşyalar, üretimine başlanıldığı ilk günden itibaren insan hayatını önemli ölçüde kolaylaştırmıştır. Örneğin; bulaşık makinesi üretimi insan hayatında zaman, enerji, su tüketimi gibi pek çok parametrenin kazanımına etki etmiştir. Bu ve benzeri parametrelerin kazanımı doğrultusunda, beyaz eşya üretim sektörüne olan yatırım artmıştır. Sektöre giren çeşitli firmalar ile sektörel rekabet ortamı oluşmuştur. Bu rekabet ortamında ayakta kalmak isteyen firmalar, rakiplerinin gerisinde kalmamak ve hatta onların önüne geçmek için çeşitli faaliyetlerde bulunmaktadırlar. Çalışmamızda yer alan firma, beyaz eşya sektöründe üretim gerçekleştirmektedir. Firma, ürünlerini üretirken müşteri beklentilerine ve kalite faaliyetlerine önem göstermektedir. Çalışmada çamaşır makinesi fabrikasında, montaj hattında oluşan hata verileri analiz edilmiştir. Bu veriler, Pareto Analizi ve Kontrol Grafikleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Pareto Analizi ile öncelik verilmesi gereken hatalar tespit edilmiştir. Kontrol Grafikleri ile sürecin kontrol alanının dışına çıktığı noktalar tespit edilmiştir.The increase in population increases the needs, the increase in needs increases the production. One of these needs is white goods. White goods have made human life considerably easier since the first day of production. For example, the production of dishwashers has affected savings in many parameters such as time, energy and water consumption in human life. According to the savings of these and similar parameters, investment in the white goods manufacturing sector has increased day by day. A sectoral competitive environment has emerged with various companies entering the sector. Companies that want to survive in this competitive environment engage in various activities in order not to lag behind their competitors and even to get ahead of them. The company in our study carries out production in the white goods sector. The company gives attach importance to customer expectations and quality activities while producing its products. In this study, the data of defects that occurred in the assembly line in the washing machine factory were analyzed. These data were evaluated with Pareto Analysis and Control Charts. Errors that need to be prioritized were determined by Pareto Analysis. By using the Control Charts, the points where the process went out of the control area were determined
Carbon pricing and aggregate macroeconomic performance in the Eurozone: a contribution to the climate policy debate using the EU ETS and Macroeconomic Performance Index
This article contributes to the carbon pricing debate by providing new evidence on the aggregate macroeconomic effect of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) in the Eurozone. To this end, a novel macroeconomic performance index is created to capture the overall economic performance of the Eurozone countries. The index is a weighted aggregation of key macroeconomic variables—GDP growth rate, inflation rate, employment rate, exchange rate, and long-term inflation rate—for the 19 member countries of the group. The effect of the EU ETS on this macroeconomic performance index is then empirically examined while controlling for the effects of physical capital accumulation, human capital accumulation and regulatory quality. A panel framework covering the period 2005–2022 is set up to achieve this objective and the relationship is examined using panel method of moments quantile regression with fixed effects, as well as fixed and random effects regressions of Driscoll and Kraay. A number of important revelations are made. Firstly, the behavior of the macroeconomic performance index constructed clearly reflects the economic reality of the Eurozone, with downward spikes visible in periods corresponding with the economic crisis of 2007–2009, the Eurozone debt crisis of 2010/2011, the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2016, and periods around the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Hence, a case is made for the use of the macroeconomic performance index as a superior aggregate measure of the overall economic performance in empirical research. Secondly, a statistically significant negative effect of the EU ETS on aggregate macroeconomic performance in the Eurozone is confirmed. This shows that there are significant economic costs associated with the use of carbon pricing as a means of lowering pollution. Thirdly, the findings further show that the negative impact gradually decreases (in absolute values) from lower to higher quantiles. Overall, higher carbon prices cause greater economic disruption when macroeconomic performance is relatively poor but have less damaging effect when aggregate economic performance is relatively strong. Policy recommendations based on the study findings are also provided
Unveiling Off-Target Mutations in CRISPR Guide RNAs: Implications for Gene Region Specificity
The revolutionary CRISPR-Cas9 technology has revolutionized genetic engineering, and it holds immense potential for therapeutic interventions. However, the presence of off-target mutations and mismatch capacity poses significant challenges to its safe and precise implementation. In this study, we explore the implications of off-target effects on critical gene regions, including exons, introns, and intergenic regions. Leveraging a benchmark dataset and using innovative data preprocessing techniques, we have put forth the advantages of categorical encoding over one-hot encoding in training machine learning classifiers. Crucially, we use latent class analysis (LCA) to uncover subclasses within the off-target range, revealing distinct patterns of gene region disruption. Our comprehensive approach not only highlights the critical role of model complexity in CRISPR applications but also offers a transformative off-target scoring procedure based on ML classifiers and LCA. By bridging the gap between traditional target-off scoring and comprehensive model analysis, our study advances the understanding of off-target effects and opens new avenues for precision genome editing in diverse biological contexts. This work represents a crucial step toward ensuring the safety and efficacy of CRISPR-based therapies, underscoring the importance of responsible genetic manipulation for future therapeutic applications
Techno-humanism and society 5.0 within the axis of speculative future discussions: A systematic review
Tekno-hümanizm, teknolojinin insani deneyim ve potansiyeller üzerinde olumlu etkiler yaratmasını hedefleyen felsefi bir pozisyondur. Bu anlamda tekno-hümanizm teknoloji ve insanlık arasındaki dengenin adil bir şekilde kurulması gerektiğini ve insanlığın yeniden merkeze alınmasını savunur. Bu savunmayı yaparken de insanların yaşam kalitesini artırmak için teknolojik gelişmeleri kullanırken ahlaki ve sosyal sorumluluk ilkelerini gözetir. Teknohümanizm; skolastik felsefe sonrasında Aydınlanma düşüncesinin normatif bir çıktısı olan hümanizm paradigmasının aktüel bir aşamasıdır. İnsan merkezcilik ve rasyonalitenin nesnel çerçevesinde şekillenen Endüstri Devrimi tarihsel olarak Enformasyon Toplumu aşamasını da tamamlamış, süper akıllı toplumlar idealine eğilim artış göstermiş ve internet teknolojileri örgütlü yaşam ve üretim pratiklerini domine etmeye başlamıştır. İlk olarak Japonya’da öne sürülen Toplum 5.0 modeli, dijital teknolojiler ve yapay zeka teknolojilerinin zemin oluşturduğu süper akıllı toplumları refere etmektedir. Toplum 5.0’ın amacı insanlığın makine ve yapay zekalarla olan etkileşimini verimlilik açısından optimize etmektir. Ayrıca toplumsal hayatta büyüme ve kalkınmaya birincil öncelik vererek, yaşam kalitesinin maksimize edilmesini sağlamak bu modelin öncelikli hedefleri arasındadır. Bu çerçeveden hareketle, çalışmanın amacı insan merkezciliğin tarihsel evriminin son aşaması olan tekno-hümanizm yaklaşımı ekseninde, süper akıllı toplum ideallerini odağına alan Toplum 5.0 modelinin vaat ve pratikleri arasındaki benzerlikleri ve çelişkileri, spekülatif gelecek tartışmaları ekseninde (post- tekno hümanizm) sistematik yöntemle tartışmaktır. Çalışmanın temel varsayımı dijital transformasyon sürecini inşa eden neredeyse tüm gelişme ve aksiyonlar insan yaşamını kolaylaştırma felsefesini benimserken, Toplum 5.0 gibi tamamen dijital ve yapay zeka teknolojileri ile donatılmış makro modellerin hümaniteryen temelli bir felsefe gütmedikleri yönündedir. Çalışmada tekno-hümanizm kavramı ve Toplum 5.0 modeli çerçevelendirilerek, sistematik olarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, tekno-hümaniteryen görüş ve Toplum 5.0 arasında tematik olarak karşıt bir ilişki olduğu, aksine Toplum 5.0 modelinin spekülatif gelecek tartışmalarını bütünleyen post- tekno hümanist paradigmaya daha yakın bir pozisyonda olduğu tartışılmıştır.Techno-humanism is a philosophical position that aims for technology to have positive effects on human experience and potential. In this sense, techno-humanism advocates that the balance between technology and humanity should be established fairly and that humanity should be recentered. While making this defense, it observes the principles of moral and social responsibility while using technological developments to improve people's quality of life. Techno-humanism is the current stage of the humanism paradigm, which is a normative output of the Enlightenment thought after scholastic philosophy. The Industrial Revolution, which took shape within the objective framework of anthropocentrism and rationality, has historically completed the Information Society stage, the tendency towards the ideal of super-smart societies has increased, and internet technologies have begun to dominate organized life and production practices. The Society 5.0 model, first put forward in Japan, refers to super-smart societies where digital technologies and artificial intelligence technologies form the basis. The aim of Society 5.0 is to optimize humanity's interaction with machines and artificial intelligence in terms of efficiency. In addition, giving priority to growth and development in social life and ensuring that the quality of life is maximized are among the primary goals of this model. Based on this framework, the aim of the study is to systematically discuss the similarities and contradictions between the promises and practices of the Society 5.0 model, which focuses on the ideals of a super-smart society, in the axis of the techno-humanism approach, which is the last stage of the historical evolution of anthropocentrism, and the speculative future discussions (post-techno-humanism). The basic assumption of the study is that while almost all developments and actions that build the digital transformation process adopt the philosophy of facilitating human life, macro models such as Society 5.0, which are fully equipped with digital and artificial intelligence technologies, do not pursue a humanitarian-based philosophy. In the study, the concept of techno-humanism and the Society 5.0 model are framed and systematically examined. As a result of the study, it is argued that there is a thematically opposing relationship between the techno-humanitarian view and Society 5.0, on the contrary, the Society 5.0 model is in a position closer to the post-technohumanist paradigm that integrates speculative future discussions
The effect of emotional intelligence on purchasing behavior: A research on customers who prefer shopping malls in Baku
Duygusal zekânın müşterilerin satın alma davranışları üzerinde etkisi olup olmadığını araştırmak bu çalışmanın temel amacıdır. Araştırmanın evrenini Bakü’deki AVM’leri ziyaret eden müşteriler oluşturmaktadır. Kolayda örnekleme yönteminin uygulandığı çalışmaya 499 müşteri katılmıştır. Veriler yüz yüze anket tekniği ile toplanarak SPSS ile analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda müşterilerin orta düzeyde duygusal ve sosyal yönden orta düzeyde becerili oldukları, kendilerini kontrol edebildikleri ve kendilerini mutlu hissettikleri, buna bağlı olarak da duygusal zekâlarının orta düzeyde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte duygusal zekânın satın alma davranışlarını etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Duygusal zekâ alt boyutlarından olan duygusallık ve sosyal becerilerin, satın almaya karşı koyamama davranışını ve ruh halinin yönetimini anlamlı bir şekilde etkilediği bulunmuştur.The main purpose of this study is to investigate whether emotional intelligence has an effect on customers' purchasing behavior. The population of the research consists of customers visiting shopping malls in Baku. 499 customers participated in the study in which the convenience sampling method was applied. Data were collected with face-to-face survey technique and analyzed with SPSS. As a result of the study, it was determined that the customers were moderately emotionally and socially skilled, they could control themselves and felt happy, and therefore their emotional intelligence was moderate. However, it has been determined that emotional intelligence affects purchasing behavior. It has been found that emotionality and social skills, which are sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence, significantly affect purchasing behavior and mood management
Examination of graduate thesis in the field of social skills in pre-school period
Amaç: Araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye’de 2019-2022 yılları içerisinde okul öncesi dönemde sosyal beceriler alanında yapılmış lisansüstü tezlerinin incelenmesi ve değerlendirilmesidir. Yöntem: Bu araştırma sistematik inceleme üzerine kurulu bir eğitim bilim çalışmasıdır. Bulgular: Araştırmada elde edilen veriler göz önüne alındığında; bu konuda kadın araştırmacıların erkek araştırmacılara göre çok daha fazla çalışma yaptığı, bu alana dair belirlenen aralıklarda yapılan lisansüstü tezler içerisinden yüksek lisans tezlerinin 8 kat kadar fazla yapıldığı sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada incelenen konu alanında doçent ve profesör unvanlı danışmanların daha çok tez yazım sürecine katkı sağladığı görülmüştür. İncelenen yıllar içerisinde en çok tezin 2019 yılında yapıldığı, 2022 yılında ise yalnızca bir tez üretildiği tespit edilmiştir. Bu alanda yapılan lisansüstü tezlerde daha çok nicel araştırmaların tercih edildiği ve araştırmalarda en fazla tarama modelinin kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. Tezlerin çeşitli ve birbiriyle ilişkili araştırma konularını içerdikleri ve tezlerde bu konulara ilişkin çocuk, öğretmen, ebeveyn, okul öncesi eğitim kurumları gibi veri kaynaklarından bilgi elde edildiği dikkat çekmiştir. İlaveten araştırmanın verileri toplanırken ölçeklerin, veriler analiz edilirken ise istatiksel veri analiz yöntemlerinin tercih edildiği ulaşılan diğer sonuçlar arasındadır. Özgünlük: Literatürde asıl bilgi üretim kaynağı olan lisansüstü tezlerin incelenme ve değerlendirilmesine ilişkin birçok araştırma olmasına rağmen, bu konuda okul öncesi dönemde sosyal beceri alanında yapılmış çalışmalarla hiç karşılaşılmamış olması bu araştırmanın önemini açıklamaktadır. Bu araştırma okul öncesi dönemde sosyal beceri alanının önemine dikkat çekmesi ve sosyal beceri alanının araştırmacıların elde ettiği sonuçlara bütüncül bir bakış açısı getirmesi bakımından özgün bulunmaktadır.Purpose: The purpose of the research is to study and assess the postgraduate theses in the area of social skills during the preschool period in Turkey between the years 2019 and 2022. Method: This study is based on a systematic review in the field of educational science. Findings: Considering the data gathered in the research; It has been concluded that female researchers carry out much more work in this field than male researchers, and among the postgraduate theses made at the specified intervals in this field, the master's theses are done 8 times more. It has been decided that the advisors with the title of associate professor and professor contribute more to the thesis writing process in the subject area examined in the research, that the most thesis was made in 2019, and only one thesis was produced in 2022. It has been determined that more quantitative research is preferred in the postgraduate theses in this field and the scanning model is used the most in the research. It is notable that theses contain various and interrelated research topics and that information is obtained from data sources such as children, teachers, parents, and preschool education institutions on these subjects. In addition, it is among the other results that scales are preferred most when collecting data from data sources, and statistical data analysis methods are preferred when analyzing data more quantitative research is preferred in the postgraduate theses in this field and the scanning model is used the most in the researches. It is important that theses contain various and interrelated research topics and that information is acquired from data sources such as children, teachers, parents, and pre-school education institutions on these subjects. In addition, it is among the other results that scales are preferred most when collecting data from data sources and statistical data analysis methods are preferred when analyzing data. Originality: Although there are many studies on the examination and evaluation of postgraduate theses, which are the main source of knowledge production in the literature, the fact that there have never been any studies in the field of social skills in preschool period explains the importance of this research. This research is unique in that it draws attention to the importance of social skills in preschool period and brings a holistic perspective to the results obtained by researchers in the field of social skills
Modeling the influence of nanoparticles and gyrotactic microorganisms on natural convection in a heated square cavity using artificial neural network (ANN)
The phenomenon of natural convection, which is widely used in nature and engineering applications, is a current issue that can be encountered in every field of daily life. In this study, the natural convection characteristics of a complex liquid containing nanoparticles and gyrotactic microorganisms in a heated square cavity were investigated using artificial neural network approach. The Nusselt number, average Sherwood number of nanoparticles, and average Sherwood number of microorganisms were considered as natural convection parameters and an artificial neural network model was developed to estimate these values. The Lewis number, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and buoyancy ratio parameter values were defined as input parameters in the network model, which has a multilayer perceptron architecture developed with a total of 24 datasets. There were 10 neurons in the hidden layer of the network model, which has a Bayesian regularization training algorithm. The outputs obtained from the network model were compared with the target values; in addition, the prediction performance of the model was extensively analyzed using various performance parameters. It was seen that the predicted values obtained from the neural network and the target values were in an ideal harmony. On the other hand, the value of the coefficient of determination for the network model was 0.99999% and the mean deviation rates were lower than -0.03%. The results of the study showed that the developed neural network model can predict the natural convection parameters discussed with high accuracy.ACKNOWLEDGMENTThe data used in this study were obtained from the study conducted by Ahmed et al. Introducing the overall risk scoring as an early warning system
Business performance is a critical field of study, which should be assessed in more than just credit risk in the banking context. However, much previous research takes business performance in the context of credit risk in banking. In this study, risks will be analyzed to measure business performance in an integrated manner within the framework of non-financial sector dynamics. To this end, brainstorming sessions, risk workshops, surveys, and face-to-face interviews were held with representatives of small medium enterprises in 11 different sectors. Through field studies, risks have been identified and assessed in terms of impact and probability, Key Risk Indicators have been determined, and risks have been scored based on financial and non-financial metrics to estimate the Overall Risk Scoring. Moreover, the Overall Risk Scoring model has been tested using Logit Regression and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), the Naïve Bayes Algorithm, and the C4.5 decision tree model. All methods have statistically verified that the predictive power of the structure of the Overall Risk Scoring is high. Our findings reveal that when business performance is analyzed with non-financial and financial metrics, dynamic and static data, market expectations, and banking needs, the predictive power of the calculated Overall Risk Scoring increases. The created Overall Risk Scoring Model can be used as an early warning system for many objectives by business executives, suppliers, consumers, investors, financial institutions, public bodies, credit rating agencies, and entities like the Credit Guarantee Fund
