    High School Students Experiencing Cyber Bullying and Affecting Factors

    Amaç: Bu çalışmada amaç, lise öğrencilerinin siber zorbalığa maruz kalma durumlarını, etkileyen faktörlerin ve siber zorbalığın etkilerinin incelenmesidir.Yöntem: Bu araştırma, İstanbul ili, Şişli ilçesinde bulunan, rastgele örneklem ile seçilmiş üç lisede okuyan, araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü 516 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Örneklem seçim yöntemine gidilmemiş, ulaşılabilen tüm öğrenciler çalışmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Okulların toplam öğrenci sayısına göre ulaşılabilme oranı %41.8 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Veriler, hazırlanan veri toplama formu, Siber Mağduriyet Ölçeği ve Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği ile araştırmacı tarafından toplanmıştır. Veriler SPSS programında analiz edilmiştir. Frekans ve yüzde dağılımları, tablolar hâlinde gösterilmiş, ölçekler arası korelasyon testi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamına giren 516 öğrencinin siber mağduriyet puan ortalamaları 27.40+4.15, benlik saygısı puan ortalamaları ise 21.11+5.81 olarak belirlenmiştir. Anne babası sağ olan, birlikte yaşayan öğrencilerin siber mağduriyet puan ortalamaları düşük, tanımadığı kişilerle mesajlaşan, cep telefonuna şifre koyan ve tanımadığı kişilerle görüntülü konuşma yapan öğrencilerin mağduriyet puanları ise diğerlerine göre daha yüksek olarak belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin siber mağduriyet puanları ile benlik saygısı puanları arasında negatif yönde bir korelasyon olduğu görülmüştür (r = -0.136, p<.001).Sonuç: Ergenlerin ruh sağlıklarının korunması açısından, siber mağduriyete uğrayabilme riski yüksek, anne veya babası olmayan ya da ayrı olan öğrencilerin yakından gözlenmesi, tüm öğrencilere kendilerini bu saldırılardan koruyabilmeleri konusunda eğitim ve danışmanlık verilmesi önerilmektedir. Okul sağlığı hemşireleri bu görevi yerine getirecek uygun kişiler olabilirler.Aim: This study aimed to analyze the impact of cyber bullying exposure on high school students. Methods: This research was conducted with 516 randomly selected high school students agreeing to participate from three different schools in Sisli, Istanbul, Turkey. This number (516 students) comprises 41.8% of the total students of these schools. The data were collected by using a personal information form, the Cyber Victimization Scale and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and were analyzed on the SPSS program. The distributions of frequency and percentage are shown in the tables, and a correlation test was conducted between scales. Results: It was found that the average point for cyber victimization was 27.40+4.15. The average point for self-esteem was 21.11+5.81. The average cyber victimization scores of students whose parents were alive and living together were lower, and the victimization scores of students who communicated with people they did not know, who put passwords on their mobile phones, and who made video conversations with people they did not know were found to be higher than the others. It was observed that there was a negative correlation between the cyber victimization points and the self-esteem points. (r = -0.136, p=.00) Conclusion: In order to protect the mental health of adolescents, it is recommended to monitor any students who are at high risk of cyber victimization, who have no parents, or whose parents are separated, and that all students be provided with training and counseling on how to protect themselves from such attacks. School nurses may be eligible to perform this task

    Post-operative N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide predicts in-hospital mortality after living donor liver transplantation

    Objective: The post-operative serum level of N-terminalpro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) has been foundto be associated with post-operative cardiovascular complications and mortality in high-risk surgeries. The usefulnessof the post-operative NT-proBNP level as a predictor of mortality after liver transplantation (LT) is unknown.Methods: The records of patients at a single, tertiary university hospital who had undergone adult living donor livertransplantation (LDLT) with data of post-operative NTproBNP level values were retrospectively analyzed for in--hospital mortality. The highest post-operative NT-proBNPlevel from the first 3 days after surgery was included in thestudy. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis wasperformed to assess the best cut-off value of post-operativeNT-proBNP, and Cox regression analysis was performed toinvestigate the effect of NT-proBNP on mortality.Results: A total of 114 LT recipients with a mean Modelfor End-Stage Liver Disease score of 15.8 were includedin the study. In-hospital mortality occurred in 11 (9.6%) ofthe patients. A history of diabetes mellitus and the post-operative NT-proBNP level were found to be associated withmortality (p=0.011 for diabetes mellitus and p<0.001 forNT-proBNP). The best cut-off value of post-operative NTproBNP was 1009 ng/L. Cox regression analysis indicatedthat the NT-proBNP level was a strong predictor of in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio: 24.467, 95% confidence interval:3.120–191.750; p=0.002).Conclusion: The post-operative NT-proBNP serum level independently predicted in-hospital mortality in patients whounderwent LDLT. Post-operative NT-proBNP-guided management of LT recipients should be pursued

    KURKUMİN UYGULAMASININ YÜKSEK YAĞLI DİYETLE BESLENEN SIÇANLARIN TESTİS DOKUSUNDA OKSİDANANTİOKSİDAN SİSTEM ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

    Amaç: Yüksek yağlı diyetin (YYD) neden olduğu oksidatif stresintestis fonksiyonlarını olumsuz yönde etkilediği bilinmektedir.Zerdeçal baharatının aktif bileşeni olan kurkuminin oksidan-antioksidandenge üzerine olumlu etkileri olduğu gösterilmiştir. Buçalışmanın amacı; YYD birlikte alınan kurkuminin testiste oksidan-antioksidan denge üzerine olan etkisini incelemektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Sprague-Dawley erkek sıçanlar dört grubaayrılmış ve 16 hafta süreyle beslenmiştir. Birinci gruba kalorisinin%10’unun yağdan karşılandığı normal diyet, ikinci gruba kalorisinin%60’ının yağdan karşılandığı YYD, üçüncü gruba YYD’ekarıştırılmış kurkumin (1g/kg yem) ve dördüncü gruba sadecenormal diyet+kurkumin (1g/kg yem) verilmiştir. Deney süresi sonundatestis dokusu homojenize edilerek postmitokondriyal vemitokondriyal fraksiyonlara ayrılmış; testiste reaktif oksijen türleri(ROS) düzeyleri florometrik yöntemle, malondialdehit (MDA) veglutatyon (GSH) düzeyleri ile glutatyon peroksidaz (GPx), süperoksitdismütaz (SOD) ve glutatyon transferaz (GST) aktivitelerispektrofotometrik yöntemlerle ölçülmüştür.Bulgular: YYD uygulaması, testiste postmitokondriyal ve mitokondriyalMDA düzeylerini arttırmış; sitozolik GSH düzeyleriniise azaltmıştır. YYD+kurkumin uygulaması YYD’e bağlı artışgösteren MDA düzeylerini düşürmüş; GSH düzeyini ve GST aktivitesini ise arttırmıştır. Ancak sadece kurkumin uygulamasıoksidan-antioksidan göstergeleri etkilememiştir. ROS düzeyleriile SOD ve GPx aktiviteleri ise gruplar arasında anlamlı değişimgöstermemiştir.Sonuç: Bulgularımız, YYD ile birlikte alınan kurkuminin testiküleroksidan-antioksidan dengeyi koruyucu olabileceğini göstermektedir.Ancak bu etkinin moleküler mekanizmalarının incelenmesiiçin ileri çalışmalar yapılması gerekmektedir

    Prevalence and Characteristics of Atrial Fibrillation inTurkish Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis

    Objective: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common and cumulatively important cardiac arrhythmias. Prevalence of AF is much higher in patients with chronic kidney disease (may be up to 27%). We aimed to study the prevalence and clinical features of AF in hemodialysis centers.Materials and Methods: Patients who had been under chronic in-center hemodialysis for at least 6 months and were ≥18 years of age were included in this cross-sectional study conducted at five hemodialysis centers across İstanbul between May 2017 and July 2017. Medical history, clinical (including medications and echocardiography), and laboratory data were obtained using a standardized study form. Results: The data of 632 prevalent patients undergoing in-center hemodialysis (mean age 62.7±13.9 years, males 350 and females 282) were included in the analysis. AF was present in 92 (14.5%) of the patients. The prevalence of AF was lowest in patients <55 years of age and showed an increasing trend with age. While age, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cerebrovascular events were associated with the presence of AF; left ventricular hypertrophy, diabetes and hypertension were not. Overall, 78% of patients with AF were using either single or a combination of antithrombotic agents. Less than 10% of AF patients were receiving warfarin. The rates of antiplatelet agents and warfarin use were not different between patients with a CHA2DS2-VASc score of ≥2 or less.Conclusion: AF is highly prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis, and warfarin was used in nearly 5% of the patients with AF undergoing hemodialysis in this study, which suggests that the current knowledge is unconvincing to proceed for the treatment with anticoagulation. Further studies are needed to guide the management for prevention of strokes in patients with AF undergoing dialysis

    In Vivo Assessment of the Effect of Hexagonal Boron Nitride Nanoparticles on Biochemical, Histopathological, Oxidant and Antioxidant Status

Wistar albino rats (n = 80) weighing 200-250 g were divided into eight groups (n = 10). the acute effects of hBN NPs (i.v) on the rats were investigated by measuring the biochemical, hematological parameters and oxidant-antioxidant status. the results show that no significant change was observed in the hematological and biochemical parameters when the control group and other low dose groups were compared, except for the 1600 and 3200 mu g/kg b.w. dose groups. Histological detection indicated that 1600 and 3200 mu g/kg hBN NPs treatment could induce significant damage in the liver, kidney, heart, spleen and pancreas. With the findings obtained, it can be seen that hBN NPs cannot be evaluated independently of particle morphology, and that the hBN NPs used in this study may be suitable for biomedical applications where low doses between 50 and 800 mu g/kg are not toxic.Eskiehir Technical University Scientific Research Projects Commission [19ADP163]This study was supported by Eskiehir Technical University Scientific Research Projects Commission. Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4), also known as aP2 or A-FABP, plays a key role in the development of atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, obesity, and metabolic syndrome (MS). the FABP4 polymorphisms are associated with protein expression changes in vitro and metabolic and vascular alterations in vivo. the aim of this study was to investigate the association between FABP4 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression levels in epicardial (EAT), pericardial (PAT), and subcutaneous adipose tissues (SAT), and the extent of coronary atherosclerosis in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with MS. Furthermore, the relationship between the extent of coronary atherosclerosis and epicardial adipose tissue volume (EATV) and FABP4 gene variations was evaluated. Patients and methods: A total of 37 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting because of CAD (MS CAD group) and 23 non-MS patients undergoing heart valve surgery (control group) were included. Coronary angiography was performed for all patients and the extent of coronary atherosclerosis was assessed using the Sullivan's scoring system. the mRNA expression levels of FABP4 gene in EAT, PAT, and SAT, and FABP4 polymorphisms were analyzed using the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results: An increased FABP4 expression was observed in EAT and PAT of MS CAD group compared to controls. in the MS CAD group, FABP4 mRNA expression levels in EAT was 2.8-fold higher compared to PAT. the expression of FABP4 in EAT was positively correlated with the extent of atherosclerosis and EATV in MS CAD group (r = 0.588, P = 0.001, r = 0.174, P = 0.001, respectively). There were no correlations between PAT and SAT versus the extent of atherosclerosis and EATV. the FABP4 EAT mRNA expression levels were found to significantly increase in mutant allele carriers of rs1054135, whereas they significantly decreased in mutant allele carriers of rs77878271 (T-87C) in MS CAD group (P < 0.05). the extent of atherosclerosis was also found to be significantly associated with rs1054135 (P < 0.05). A cut-off point of 57.5 cm(3) EATV was used indicating the presence of CAD with a significant area under the curve of 0.783%, 98% sensitivity, and 100% specificity (95% CI 0.620-0.880; P < 0.05). Conclusions: Our study results suggest that FABP4 expression in EAT is strongly associated with the extent of atherosclerosis and EATV in MS CAD patients.     Functional connectivity analysis of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy displaying different ictal propagation patterns

We aimed to analyse functional connectivity (FC) of the temporal lobe and related areas in patients with TLE with iPP (iPP-TLE) and without iPP (non-iPP TLE). Methods. Twelve patients with iPP-TLE, 13 patients with non-iPP TLE, and 13 healthy controls (HC) underwent resting-state functional MRI (fMRI). Seed-based FC was analysed between the homologous insulae, hippocampi, amygdalae, parahippocampal, superior temporal, and middle temporal gyri. Results. FC was reduced between homologous temporal lobe areas in patients with TLE compared with HCs. Patients with non-iPP TLE displayed decreased FC between the homologous parahippocampal and superior temporal gyri, and patients with iPP-TLE had lower FC between the homologous insulae, parahippocampal and superior temporal gyri compared with HC. Furthermore, patients with iPP-TLE tended to have lower FC between the bilateral insulae when compared with patients with non-iPP TLE. Conclusions.     WOS: 000527786700176PubMed: 32034027Introduction Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) reach end-stage renal disease in their fifth decade on average. For effective treatment and early intervention, identifying subgroups with rapid disease progression is important in ADPKD. However, there are no epidemiological data on the clinical manifestations and disease progression of patients with ADPKD from the Asia-Pacific region. Methods and analysis the RAPID-ADPKD (Retrospective epidemiological study of Asia-Pacific patients with rapId Disease progression of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease) study is a multinational, retrospective, observational cohort study of patients with ADPKD in the Asia-Pacific region (Australia, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taipei and Turkey). This study was designed to identify the clinical characteristics of patients with ADPKD with rapid disease progression. Adult patients with ADPKD diagnosed according to the unified ultrasound criteria and with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) >= 45 mL/min/1.73 m(2) at baseline will be included. the cohort will include patients with >= 2 records of eGFR and at least 24 months of follow-up data. Demographic information, clinical characteristics, comorbidities, medications, eGFR, radiological findings that allow calculation of height-adjusted total kidney volume, ADPKD-related complications and the Predicting Renal Outcomes in autosomal dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (PRO-PKD) score will be collected. Rapid progression will be defined based on the European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) guideline. All other patients without any of these criteria will be classified to be of slow progression. Clinical characteristics will be compared between patients with rapid progression and those with slow progression. the incidence of complications and the effects of race and water intake on renal progression will also be analysed. the planned sample size of the cohort is 1000 patients, and data from 600 patients have been collected as of 30 May 2019. Methods in this multi-institutional study, clinical data of 176 PC patients with 353 lesions receiving MDT between 2014 and 2019 were retrospectively evaluated. All patients had biopsy proven PC with = 3 acute toxicity, but one patient had a late grade 3 toxicity of compression fracture after spinal SBRT. Conclusion Ga-68-PSMA-PET/CT-based MDT is an efficient and safe treatment for oligometastatic PC patients. Proper patient selection might improve treatment outcomes
