ABSTRACT: People of minoritized genders struggle the most in contested environments. Cities are shaped by marginalized communities constantly claiming agency and space to thrive. Designers and planners should develop intersectional lenses to identify such marginal forces and better understand urbanization, especially in contexts of ongoing conflict. An inclusive viewpoint must shed light on absent or obscured voices. Thus, mapping from the margins is essential to understand how informalities work and to build a more profoundly democratic practice. In this article, the divided city of Nicosia in Cyprus is analyzed to understand how womxn raise their voices for peace, shifting the focus of Nicosia’s geopolitical conflict to a social territory reproduced by their bodies while traversing the quotidian in the city. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, this article distorts the conventional idea of borders as strict lines, present-ing them as porous, dynamic landscapes affected by the social groups around them.ÖZET: Çatışmalı çevrelerde en çok zorluk çeken gruplardan biri, ötekileştirilmiş toplumsal cinsiyetlere sahip bireylerdir.

Ankura;IEEE Dataport2023 IEEE International Conference on Big Data, BigData 2023 -- 15 December 2023 through 18 December 2023 -- -- 196820In requirements engineering (RE), anaphoric ambiguity is a frequent cause of misunderstandings. It can have a detrimental effect on the quality of requirements and jeopardize the success of a project. If stakeholders of the system, such as testers, developers, or customers, have different understandings or interpretations of software requirements, the system may not be accepted during customer validation. Despite its significance, there has been limited investigation into anaphoric ambiguity in RE. However, focusing on both recognizing and solving uncertainty can be more advantageous than just identifying it. Therefore we investigated the effectiveness of various QA learning techniques including encoder-based and text generation-based NLP models for two goals. We conduct detailed numerical experiments using various transformer models on two public requirements datasets and one generic dataset. Our results indicated that our QA architecture exhibits superior performance compared to baseline models in detecting ambiguity as well as resolving anaphora in contrast to other baseline approaches. We showed that our developed architecture can automatically support requirement development to minimize interpretation risk between stakeholders. © 2023 IEEE

A debate on the theory of contradictory class locations and middle classes: reproduction strategies of small traders in Turkey

    No full text
The global economic crisis and the associated economic downturn in Turkey revitalized debates about the theory and politics of the middle classes. The significance of the middle classes has historically been shaped by not only the 'declining' boundaries of their objective class position but also their 'rising' importance in the reproduction of capital accumulation and hegemonic relations. Inspired by the notion of 'contradictory class locations' offered by Erik Olin Wright to make sense of the growing middle class of nonmanual labor in contemporary capitalist societies, and with a particular focus on Turkey's hardware sector and small traders in the Karakoy region, this article addresses the specific historical conditions of these workers' class formation and analyzes small traders' experiences with changing market conditions, their approaches to the functioning of market mechanisms, and the role of the state, as well as forms of their political representation

A systematic review and meta-analytic synthesis of the relationship between compulsory citizenship behaviors and its theoretical correlates

Background: Compulsory citizenship behaviors (CCBs) are increasingly endorsed and expected of workers in contexts where managerial worker protections are low and performance demands on workers are high. Although studies on compulsory citizenship behaviors have shown a significant increase in recent years, the literature still lacks a comprehensive meta-analysis. To fill this gap the purpose of this study is to synthesize the collective outcomes of prior quantitative research on CCBs with the objective of identifying the factors linked to the concept and offering a primary reference for future researchers. Methods: Forty-three different correlates with CCBs were synthesized. The dataset of this meta-analysis consists of 53 independent samples with a sample size of 17.491, contributing to 180 effect sizes. PRISMA flow diagram and PICOS framework were used for the study design.Result: Results showed only gender and age were significant among demographic characteristics related to CCBs. Correlates between CCBs and counterproductive workplace behaviors, felt obligation, work-family conflict, organizational-based self-esteem, organizational cynicism, burnout, anger toward the organization, and work alienation were found as large. We also found turnover intention, moral disengagement, careerism, abusive supervision, citizenship pressure, job stress, facades of conformity, and feeling trusted to be moderately related to CCBs. Next, there was a small relationship between CCBs and social loafing. On the other hand, LMX, psychological safety, organizational identification, organizational justice, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and job autonomy were found as significant deterrents of CCBs. These results suggest that CCBs flourish in contexts with low levels of worker protection and low road practices to people management. Conclusion: In sum, we found solid cumulative evidence that CCBs are a harmful and undesirable phenomenon for employees and organizations. Also, positive correlations of felt obligation, feeling trusted, and organization-based self-esteem with CCBs, showed that, contrary to general acceptance, positive factors could also cause CCBs. Lastly, we found CCBs as a dominant phenomenon in eastern culture

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term adverse effects on the physical appearance and overall well-being of breast cancer patients who receive hypofractionated radiotherapy as whole breast and simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) treatment, utilizing intensive modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), or a hybrid therapy approach. Material/Methods: This investigation involved administering hypofractionated SIB-VMAT therapy to individuals diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. Treatment was carried out over a three-week period in which a total dose of 48.06 Gy was given to the entire breast and 54 Gy was given to the tumor bed. Data on skin toxicity and cosmetic outcomes were analyzed both during the acute phase and during the three-month and five-year follow-up periods after treatment. Results: A total of 125 patients treated between December 2014 and December 2016 were included in the study. The data of these patients with at least 5 years of follow-up were analyzed. Conclusions: Considering these long-term results, hypofractionated SIB-VMAT can be considered a viable treatment choice, even for patients with unfavorable conditions

1990 sonrası Tunus"ta demokratikleşme örüntüleri: kökenler, aktörler ve sonuçlar.

ABSTRACT: The 25th of July 2021 exposed the fragility of Tunisia's democratic structures and marked the beginning of a new political era under a highly personalized system. This dramatic transformation sets the ground for this study to explore, analyze, and understand the current crisis's grassroots and assess the prospects of democratization in Tunisia. Tunisian democratization experiences tend to be analyzed from either a purely domestic or external dimension; the linkage between these two dimensions and their impact on the course of democracy has barely been discussed. Using qualitative analysis, this study aims to grasp the origins of the ongoing democracy crisis in Tunisia by investigating the impact of the different democratization phases from the 1990s to 2022. The study evaluates the main internal and external actors and factors in each democratization phase and highlights how the nexus between them triggered, influenced, and shaped democratization processes. The study lays out four main contributions to democratization studies in Tunisia and the debate over the internal-external linkages in democratization. First, it highlights the fact that both the liberalization and de-liberalization processes in Tunisia during the 1990s and early 2000s are the outcomes of a combination of internal and external dimensions. Second, the study argues that the democratic transition, triggered by social demonstrations, influenced the domestic and regional landscape. This made the Tunisian democratic transition of regional and international order. The interactions between internal and external dimensions during this phase led to destabilizing and stabilizing Tunisia’s democratic transition process. Third, the study suggests that after the establishment of the democratic institutions, the international actors’ role shifted towards an ‘adjusting’ role, mainly during the crisis, to maintain the secularist-Islamist balance of power and, thus the country’s stability. Fourth, regarding the current crisis the study emphasizes how the accumulative effect, the domestic actors’ dynamics, tensions and conflicts, and the regime-external actors' relationship have paved the way for a fully-fledged and continuing democracy crisis. As the origin of the ongoing crisis is multidimensional so is its resolution.ÖZET: 25 Temmuz 2021, Tunus'un demokratik yapılarının kırılganlığını ortaya çıkardı ve son derece kişiselleştirilmiş bir sistem altında yeni bir siyasi dönemin başlangıcı oldu.

Search for narrow resonances in the Formula Presented-tagged dijet mass spectrum in proton-proton collisions at Formula Presented

    Get PDF
A search is performed for narrow resonances decaying to final states of two jets, with at least one jet originating from a b quark, in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV . The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb - 1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Jets originating from energetic b hadrons are identified through a b -tagging algorithm that utilizes a deep neural network or the presence of a muon inside a jet. The invariant mass spectrum of jet pairs is well described by a smooth parametrization and no evidence for the production of new particles is observed. Upper limits on the production cross section are set for excited b quarks and other resonances decaying to dijet final states containing b quarks. These limits exclude at 95% confidence level models of Z ? bosons with masses from 1.8 TeV to 2.4 TeV and of excited b quarks with masses from 1.8 TeV to 4.0 TeV. This is the most stringent exclusion of excited b quarks to date. © 2023 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration

Çalışmanın literatür taraması aşamasında inovasyon, pazarlama, spor yönetimi, spor inovasyonu, ''Kaçırma Korkusu/Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)'' ve Daha İyı? Seçenek Korkusu/Fear of Better Option (FOBO)" konularında yüzün üzerinde akademik yayın incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci adımı ise yirmi farklı ülkeden sporun ulusal ve uluslararası kurumlarında karar verici konumunda yer alan profesyoneller ve akademisyenlerden oluşan kırk kişilik uzman ekibi ile derinlemesine mülakatlar sonucunda gerçekleşmiştir. Görüşmeler sırasında gerek çalışmanın içeriğinin test edilmesi gerekse de önerilmesi planlanan modelin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla 18 farklı ülkedeki 40 katılımcıdan 10 soruyu yanıtlamaları istenerek nitel bir araştırma yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın temel çıktısı olarak spor yönetimi alanında uzman olan genel menajerler, takım yöneticileri, pazarlama uzmanları, stratejik danışmanlar, spor alanında çalışan akademisyenlerin yanıtların tamamına yakını pazarlama faaliyetlerinin ve "Daha İyı? Seçenek Korkusu (FOBO)" teorı?sı?nı?n karar vericilerin kararlarına etki ettiği, önerilen modelin anlamlı ve yönlendirici olma ihtimalinin kuvvetli şekilde var olmasından dolayı nitel ve nicel araştırmaların detaylandırılmasının faydalı olacağı ve spor organizasyonlarının yapılanmalarına faydalı olacağına dair bulguların olarak ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir. Considering its increasing and popularizing usages in academic research on these issues has attracted considerable attention in the last decade. These concepts play an important role, directly or indirectly, in the short, long, and mid-term plans of organizations, as they not only affect the strategic objectives of organizations by their nature but also affect the decision data of those organizations. This study aims to understand the effects of marketing activities and the "Fear of Better Options (FOBO)" theory on the innovation decision-making process of sports managers and administrators. While carrying out this examination, aims to propose a new model to the literature that will be based on a strong foundation in the concepts of sports management, marketing, innovation, and decision-making. It will be supported by qualitative and quantitative research as a step after the publication of the study. Content marketing, digital advertising marketing, market research, search engine optimization (SEO), and social media marketing were the types of activities examined under marketing activities and used during the research. In the literature review phase of the study, over one hundred academic publications on innovation, marketing, sport management, sport innovation, "Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)" and "Fear of Better Option (FOBO)" were analyzed. The second step of the study was carried out through in-depth interviews with a team of forty experts consisting of professionals and academics from twenty different countries who are decision makers in national and international organizations of sport. During the interviews, a qualitative research was conducted by asking 40 participants from 18 countries to answer 10 questions in order to test the content of the study and to evaluate the model planned to be proposed. As the main output of this study, it is seen that almost all of the responses of general managers, team managers, marketing experts, strategic consultants, academicians working in the field of sports management, who are experts in the field of sports management, indicate that marketing activities and the "Fear of Better Option (FOBO)" theory affect the decisions of decision makers, that the proposed model is likely to be meaningful and directive, that it would be beneficial to elaborate qualitative and quantitative research and that it would be beneficial for the structuring of sports organizations. EXPLORING THE BENEFITS OF FREQUENT AND POSITIVE INTERGENERATIONAL CONTACT ON YOUNG ADULTS' BEHAVIORAL INTENTIONS TOWARD OLDER ADULTS: THE MODERATING ROLE OF OPTIMISM AND AGING ATTITUDES

    No full text
This study examined the moderating effects of future anxiety and aging attitudes on the relationship between intergenerational contact and behavioral intentions of young adults towards older adults in Turkey in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in February 2023. Participants included 201 young adults with a mean age of 20.98 (SD=1.94). The study supported Hypothesis 1, indicating that young adults with more frequent and positive contact with older adults demonstrated greater behavioral intentions towards older adults. Hypothesis 2 was supported only for contact frequency, suggesting that aging attitudes moderated the effects of contact frequency on behavioral intentions. Hypothesis 3 was supported only for contact frequency, indicating that future anxiety moderates the relationship between contact frequency and behavioral intentions. Specifically, individuals with lower levels of future anxiety and frequent intergenerational contact demonstrated stronger behavioral intentions towards older adults than those with higher future anxiety and infrequent contact. These findings hold practical implications for developing policies and programs that can enhance intergenerational solidarity and caregiving in Turkey and elsewhere, addressing the critical need for support for older adults in the wake of adverse living situations
