Makerspace'lere disiplinlerarası bir bakış: Londra'dan 5 örnek
ABSTRACT: A makerspace is a workspace that encourages the maker community through collaboration by providing them (physical) space, tools and knowledge for making. This dissertation examines makerspaces as a dynamic social phenomenon in its continuous state of change, aiming to inquire into and theorise them. Specifically, the dissertation raises questions about the positioning of makerspaces, particularly about connections between makers, their community, physical space, neighbourhood and production process in a makerspace. In this sense, the study constructs a theoretical framework for makerspaces by offering a case study methodology needed to be responsive to makerspace characteristics and necessities. The research design employs an interdisciplinary perspective, from social theories to architectural discourse, and includes observation of makerspaces through site visits and semi-structured interviews with makers and directors from Makerversity, Blackhorse Workshop, South London Makerspace, The Warehouse, and Sugarhouse Studios, all based in London, United Kingdom. These interviews with makers were also released as podcast episodes regarding a selected method for the dissertation. This dissertation presents perspectives that makerspace possesses distinctive qualities, while the makerspace community positions making at the core of their social connections. Therefore, makerspaces’ unique characteristics and contexts are discussed, while this is finalised in the construction of “makerspace identities”. With the help of cases, makerspaces are defined as “community with an entrepreneurial mindset in the city”, “collaborative environment empowering innovators”, “community-led workshop with an online visibility”, “open-access factory for everyone to co-create”, and “hub for cross-disciplinary studios with a social network”. These identities are to open up a discussion for the future makerspaces located in other cities or contexts; and to be aware of the relations between makers, inner maker community, and neighbourhood as well as the physical space and the urban context. Additionally, makerspaces may evolve into or challenge the concept of thirdspaces, enabling more collaborative settings. The significance of this dissertation is making contributions to literature using an interdisciplinary perspective, from social sciences to architectural discourse, and framing a systematic standpoint for future studies.ÖZET: Makerspace kavramı, komünite, (fiziksel) mekan ve çeşitli araçlar ile yapma eylemini teşvik eden işbirlikçi bir çalışma alanıdır.

ABSTRACT: The present article takes off from developments surrounding the opening of the new Artİstanbul Feshane exhibition space in Istanbul, and the responses to this initiative – some have been enthusiastic, seeing the possibilities that such an arts venue might open up; whilst other responses have been critical, notably those of groups of conservative, Islamist protesters. The discussion seeks to explore key issues in the context of the wider politics of the city and of Turkey more generally. It is argued that the contemporary ideological climate is dominated by a concern with national identity, aligned with new nationalist priorities. Central to this is an emphasis on the ideology of conquest. Arguing against this disposition, the article emphasises the metropolitan context, and seeks to open up issues pertaining to urban politics. And against the logic of cultural closure associated with national imagination, it seeks to explore the possibilities in arts practice and policy for developing an open agenda – an existential space that becomes a space of possibility.ÖZET: Bu makale, İstanbul’daki yeni Artİstanbul Feshane sergi mekânının açılışını çevreleyen gelişmelerden ve bu gelişmelere verilen tepkilerden yola çıkmaktadır.
Hermogenes in asia minor: Giving spatial presence to temples of dionysus and artemis leukophryene in virtual space
Hermogenes and his works in Asia Minor is one of the central subjects of research in both classical architecture and archaeology. In this study, the questions of what role Hermogenes played in Hellenistic architecture, what he intended and built, and why Vitruvius gave him the highest praise are once again brought up. The Temple of Dionysus in Teos and the Temple of Artemis Leukophryene in Magnesia are masterpieces of the great architect Hermogenes, who left his mark on temple architecture in Asia Minor during the Hellenistic period. Both of these temples are now in ruins. The pedestals of several columns, the lower shafts of the columns and a few fallen Ionic capitals convey the buildings' former beauty, but few vestiges remain of these important sanctuaries. Yet these marble monuments still captivate the imagination, twenty-Two centuries after they were built. As a result of a systematic and comprehensive application of digital 3D reconstruction methodology, 3D visualizations of these works of this famous architect of the Hellenistic period are created and presented. © 2023 International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. The relationship between cooks’ flow experience, job satisfaction and subjective well-being
In this study, the relationship between flow experience, job satisfaction, and subjective well-being was analyzed. Based on the literature review, four main hypotheses of the study were determined. Data from 412 cooks working in İstanbul were used to test the hypotheses. According to the findings of the research, flow experience positively affects job satisfaction and subjective well-being. Job satisfaction also positively affects subjective well-being. In addition, according to the test results of the hypothesis established on the mediation effect of job satisfaction, it was determined that the flow experience positively affected subjective well-being with the full mediation effect of job satisfaction. The results of the study have significant conceptual and practical implications for increasing the subjective well-being of service sector workers such as cooks. © 2023 Taylor & Francis
Legislative, Institutional and Political Context
Refugee governance has legislative, institutional, political, and discursive dimensions. These components co-constitute each other and reflect the fragments of strategic temporality as a building principal. It is possible to trace signs of strategic temporality in each dimension. This chapter starts with an overview of the legislative landscape marked by the Turkish asylum regime’s dual structure. Then, it maps the institutional architecture where relevant actors put these legislations into implementation. Both legislation and institutions play out in a highly political domestic and international context, which is scrutinised in the following section. The discursive dimension will be delved into further in Chap. 3. © 2023, The Author(s).European Commission, E

Mısır sinemasının Lübnanlı kadın sanatçılara erkek bakışı
ABSTRACT: This study argues that popular Egyptian cinema reconstructs and normalizes violence against women and uses foreign women to increase the impact of comedy in this process using a specific pattern. It does so mainly through misrepresenting said foreign women or, as a matter of fact, representing them in a particular manner. "Foreign" here is not in its literal meaning, given that the first idea that comes to mind when we say foreign is western. Whereas here, it is meant to indicate non-Egyptian women of Arab nationalities, specifically those of Lebanese origin. The research questions aim to pinpoint the pattern, showcase its existence, and discuss its societal background in addition to a few study cases in detail using Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze theory as feminist critical analysis method. The study focuses on the years 2000 till 2020 as it correlates with the emergence of videoclips into the Arab World leading to the popularity of Lebanese videoclip singers, especially those who had a career shift into acting in Egypt during the mentioned timeframe in the study.ÖZET: Bu çalışma, popüler Mısır sinemasının kadına yönelik şiddeti yeniden inşa edip normalleştirdiğini ve bu süreçte belirli bir örüntü kullanarak komedinin etkisini artırmak için yabancı kadınları kullandığını öne sürmektedir.
Optimizing percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation with patient-specific 3D-printed pulmonary artery models and hemodynamic assessment
Abstract
Background: Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI) has emerged as a less invasive alternative for treating severe pulmonary regurgitation after tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair in patients with a native right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT). However, the success of PPVI depends on precise patient-specific valve sizing, the avoidance of oversizing complications, and optimal valve performance. In recent years, innovative adaptations of commercially available cardiovascular mock loops have been used to test conduits in the pulmonary position. These models are instrumental in facilitating accurate pulmonic valve sizing, mitigating the risk of oversizing, and providing insight into the valve performance before implantation. This study explored the utilization of custom-modified mock loops to implant patient-specific 3D-printed pulmonary artery geometries, thereby advancing PPVI planning and execution. Material and Methods: Patient-specific 3D-printed pulmonary artery geometries of five patients who underwent PPVI using Pulsta transcatheter heart valve (THV) ® were tested in a modified ViVitro pulse duplicator system®. Various valve sizes were subjected to 10 cycles of testing at different cardiac output levels. The transpulmonary systolic and regurgitation fractions of the valves were also recorded and compared. Results: A total of 39 experiments were conducted using five different patient geometries and several different valve sizes (26, 28, 30, and 32 mm) at 3, 4, and 5 L/min cardiac output at heart rates of 70 beats per minute (bpm) and 60/40 systolic/diastolic ratios. The pressure gradients and regurgitation fractions of the tested valve sizes in the models were found to be similar to the pressure gradients and regurgitation fractions of valves used in real procedures. However, in two patients, different valve sizes showed better hemodynamic values than the actual implanted valves. Discussion: The use of 3D printing technology, electromagnetic flow meters, and the custom-modified ViVitro pulse duplicator system® in conjunction with patient-specific pulmonary artery models has enabled a comprehensive assessment of percutaneous pulmonic valve implantation performance. This approach allows for accurate valve sizing, minimization of oversizing risks, and valuable insights into hemodynamic behavior before implantation. The data obtained from this experimental setup will contribute to advancing PPVI procedures and offer potential benefits in improving patient outcomes and safety. 2024 Odemis, AKA, Ali, Gumus and Pekkan
The Myongji University Library Experience: The Impact of the ERASMUS+ Personnel Exchange Program on the Professional Development of University Librarians
University libraries are units that support education, training within the scope of research and development activities of universities. University libraries provide users with lifelong learning skills in the production, access and management of ever-increasing knowledge while providing access to current, reliable and universal knowledge to serve society. Librarians working in university libraries need to continue their professional development in order to meet the increasing information needs of users, to be aware of the changes in user expectations, to follow current developments and to provide better service to users. In this context, librarians, as university personnel, support their professional development by participating in various in-service training activities such as workshops, courses, seminars, and conferences both domestically and internationally. The ERASMUS+ Personnel Exchange Program is one of the activities for that enable university staff and librarians to acquire new experiences and competencies abroad. In this study, the impact of the ERASMUS+ Personnel Exchange Program on the professional development of librarians working in university libraries, how it affects the perspectives of librarians participating in the mobility, and the experiences gained in the Myongji University Library in South Korea, which was visited within the scope of the mobility, were shared.
