Refractory organics removal in PMS and H2O2/PMS oxidation system activated by biochar/nZVI/MoS2 composite: Synthesis, performance, mechanism and dosing methods

    No full text
A biochar composite loaded with nZVI particles and MoS2 nanosheets (nZVI/MoS2-BC) was prepared by calci-nation and hydrothermal methods, and could activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) more efficiently to produce reactive oxygen species (ROSs) for refractory organics degradation. Due to the interaction between nZVI and MoS2, the reaction sites increased with nZVI dispersing more evenly and multitudinous MoS2 growing on the surface of biochar. PMS activated by nZVI/MoS2-BC produced SO4.-, .OH, O2.- and 1O2 to degrade pollutants. In addition, the increase of specific surface area and electrical conductivity accelerated the electron transfer from pollutions to metastable PMS to achieve pollutant degradation. The effects of catalyst dosage, PMS dosage, pH, inorganic anions and humic acid, and Cl- concentration in catalytic oxidation system were investigated. nZVI/ MoS2-BC was regenerated by calcination at 300 celcius after four cycles, and could still keep higher rhodamine B (Rh -B) removal (90.88%). Various pollutants removal efficiency could reach greater than 80% in nZVI/MoS2-BC catalytic oxidation system, such as Rh-B, methylene blue, chloramphenicol, tetracycline and bisphenol A. The combination of H2O2 and PMS could greatly reduce the cost, improve the pollutant removal and shorten the reaction time by changing the interval time and content ratio of oxidants addition. nZVI/MoS2-BC applied to the H2O2/PMS double oxidation system exhibited excellent removal capability of pollutants. The intermediates of Rh-B were analyzed and the degradation pathways were proposed in nZVI/MoS2-BC and H2O2/PMS double oxidation system

A review on facilitated transport membranes based on z-complexation for carbon dioxide separation

    No full text
The emission of CO2 from human activities is the principal reason for global warming. Membrane separation technology has been extensively regarded as a tremendous potential option for mitigating CO2 emissions when utilizing fossil fuels as a major source of energy. As an important group of CO2 separation membranes, the fixed CO2 carrier-facilitated transport membrane guided by z-complexation reactions is a rising research field and has attracted much attention in the last ten years due to its desirable CO2 separation performance in the dry state and high resistance to oxidation. In this review, facilitated transport theories derived from z-complexation reactions are discussed for an in-depth understanding, rational design and tunable fabrication of facilitated transport membranes. According to the different fixation methods of metal ions (CO2 active carrier), polymer electrolyte membranes and mixed matrix membranes are discussed in detail as two strategies for fabricating CO2-facilitated transport membranes. Future perspectives toward z-complexation reaction-facilitated transport membranes are proposed

Particle tracking velocimetry study of the nonequilibrium characteristics of a fluidized bed

    No full text
The nonequilibrium characteristic of fluidization is closely related to the mesoscale structures. To help uncover this relationship, we performed a particle-level experiment in a bubbling fluidized bed making particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) measurements. We found a large Knudsen number not only in bubbles or over bubble interfaces, but also in the dense emulsion where various banded structures exist, indicating a pervasive violation of the local equilibrium. Analysis of these banded structures identified stretching, compression, or shearing between particles. Non-Gaussian velocity distributions were found throughout the bed, including in the dense emulsion with a small Knudsen number. In future work, we expect that the nonequilibrium characteristic will act as a local criterion for the assessment of various models of bubbling fluidized beds
