Off-gas detection and treatment for green air-plasma process
Thermal plasma is a promising technology widely used in materials processing and waste treatment due to its unique properties including high temperature, high energy density, high chemical activity, and high quench rate. Air-plasma is preferentially used because air is of low price as plasma gas. The content of NO x in off-gas from air-plasma was determined using a gas analyzer, and a treatment unit was designed for the green air-plasma process. Results show that the concentration of NO x in off-gas from air-plasma was 2,489 and 9,112 ppm when the plasma input power was 50 and 150 kW, respectively. O-2 in the off-gas would act as an oxidant to promote NO x absorption; thus, alkali absorption method was directly used for the treatment of the present off-gas from air-plasma. The absorption efficiency could be increased to 62.2% when additional O-2 was provided into the off-gas to change its O-2 content from 20% to 50%. The absorption rate was estimated based on the experimental data and a multistage absorption unit design, which could be reduced below 100 ppm and meet the emission standard. This article presents the feasibility of thermal plasma off-gas purification, so as to truly realize the green plasma process
A SARS-CoV-2 vaccine based on conjugation of SARS-CoV-2 RBD with IC28 peptide and mannan
SARS-CoV-2 is a particularly transmissible virus that causes a severe respiratory disease known as COVID-19. Safe and effective vaccines are urgently needed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The receptor-binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein elicits most neutralizing antibodies during viral infection and is an ideal antigen for vaccine development. In particular, RBD expressed by E. coli is amenable to low cost and high-yield manufacturability. The adjuvant is necessitated to improve the immunogenicity of RBD. IC28, a TLR5dependent adjuvant, is a peptide from bacterial flagellin. Mannan is a ligand of TLR-4 or TLR-2 and a polysaccharide adjuvant. Here, IC28 and mannan were both covalently conjugated with RBD from E. coli. The conjugate (RBD-IC28-M) elicited high RBD-specific IgG titers, and a neutralization antibody titer of 201.4. It induced high levels of Th1-type cytokines (IFN-gamma) and Th2-type cytokines (IL-5 and IL-10), along with high antigenicity and no apparent toxicity to the organs. The mouse sera of the RBD-IC28-M group competitively interfered with the interaction of RBD and ACE2. Thus, conjugation with IC28 and mannan additively enhanced the humoral and cellular immunity. Our study was expected to provide the feasibility to develop an affordable, easily scalable, effective vaccine SARS-CoV-2 vaccine
Carbon dots modified molybdenum disulfide as a high-efficiency hydrogen evolution electrocatalyst
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is considered a low-cost material that may replace platinum -based electrocatalysts towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the catalytic activity of MoS2 is limited by the low conductivity and lack of active sites. Here, a biomass carbon dots-molybdenum disulfide (BCDs-MoS2) composite was synthesized as a HER catalyst by a simple hydrothermal method. The BCDs-MoS2 catalyst displayed excellent electrocatalytic performance for HER with lower onset overpotential (115 mV), smaller Tafel slope (56.57 mV dec-1) as well as high cycling stability, which superior to those of homemade MoS2, commercial MoS2, and most of the reported MoS2-based catalysts. Ac-cording to the characterization results of morphology, surface properties, and valence states of elements, the outstanding catalytic activity of BCDs-MoS2 is ascribed to its loose structure with a large specific surface area along with abundant edges and defects, and the increase in the amount of S22-and S2-which possess higher activity due to the addition of the BCDs. This study can afford a new strategy to design high performance HER catalysts.(c) 2022 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
