Evaluating near-infrared spectroscopy as a rapid and cost-effective method for fatty acid profiling in Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis)

    No full text
This study evaluates the potential of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) as a rapid and cost-effective technique for estimating the fatty acid profile of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis). Traditionally, lipid profiling in aquaculture products has relied on gas chromatography (GC), a highly accurate but time-consuming, costly and complex method requiring extensive sample preparation. In contrast, NIRS offers a non-invasive, rapid and accurate alternative for predicting chemical composition. While NIRS has shown success in lipid profiling for fatty fish species, its application to lean fish, such as Senegalese sole, presents challenges due to low lipid concentrations and overlapping spectral signals. In this study, Senegalese sole were fed experimental diets varying in marine protein and lipid content. Lipid profiles of 75 tissue samples were analysed using both GC and NIRS, with fatty acid content expressed as percentage of total fatty acids (% TFA) and as µg fatty acid per mg dry tissue (µg FA/mg dry tissue). Calibrations were developed using Modified Partial Least Squares Regression (MPLSR) and the prediction accuracy was assessed using calibration statistics. The results showed that dietary lipids significantly influenced the fatty acid composition of Senegalese sole, consistent with previous findings for marine fish. NIRS calibrations were most accurate when fatty acid content was expressed as µg FA/mg dry tissue, giving better predictions than % TFA. The best calibrations were obtained for oleic acid, the dominant fatty acid in Senegalese sole, with an R2cv of 0.83 and a ratio of standard deviation/cross validation error (RPD) of 2.44. Fatty acid group predictions were more accurate for monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) than for the other groups, with an R2cv of 0.85 and an RPD of 2.60. These results demonstrate the potential of NIRS as a rapid and cost-effective method for fatty acid profiling in Senegalese sole, particularly for the estimation of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids (MUFA and PUFA). However, further research is needed to improve the accuracy and robustness of NIRS prediction models. Expanding the calibration dataset to include greater variability in diet, season and cultivation conditions will improve the reliability of the method for wider applications.Premio Anual Publicación Científica Destacada de la US. The Role of Family Members as a Key Factor in University Success of Italian and Spanish Graduates with Disabilities

    No full text
Although previous research suggests the crucial role of the family in supporting young people with disabilities in accessing and remaining at university, the role of the family in this process has not been fully explored to date. This article analyses the experiences of 18 graduates from Italy and Spain, as well as 21 of their family members. Adopting a narrative methodology, semi-structured and in-depth interviews were conducted. The data were analysed using an inductive category and code system. The study investigated three aspects: types of support provided by families to graduates with disabilities, the importance of family support for university success, and recommendations to other families to support students. The study concludes that the family plays a crucial role in the personal and academic development of people with disabilities. However, it also highlights the need for government policies to support and promote equal access to higher education. Implications for future research are discussed, and recommendations are based on how graduates with disabilities and their families prepare for this transition to higher education, knowing which factors are relevan

La poética de la reescritura. Modernismo y traducción en España (1880-1920)

    No full text

After ten years of regulation of the divorce procedure before the Justice Administration Lawyer in section 10 of article 777 of the LEC, the entry into force of Law 1/2025, of January 2, on efficiency measures of the Public Justice Service has brought an unexpected and surprising novelty in determining its objective and territorial competence that the legislator did not foresee in advance and that is the result of the creation of the new Instance Courts and the operation of the Judicial Office. In this study, we will analyze what these novelties are

Multimodal IoT Device Authentication using Behavioral and Physical Unclonable Functions and Kyber Public Key Encryption

    No full text
Proper device identity management and authentication is a must for many Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are a wellknown solution for identifying IoT devices. However, they can be attacked using both intrusive and non-intrusive physical attacks. In this work, we propose a multimodal device authentication scheme using Behavioral and Physical Unclonable Functions (BPUFs), which is a more secure option than PUFs. Adequate server-side security is achieved because BPUF responses are processed in the encrypted domain using homomorphic encryption. Furthermore, helper data attacks are avoided and the solution is quantum-safe. The proposal has been evaluated on an ESP32 microcontroller considering the security against false acceptance attacks and the security level of the Kyber public key encryption used. Fixing the first security to more than 192 bits for the behavioral and physical functions, the execution times of the cryptographic operations range from 41.30 to 205.70 ms, working at 160 MHz, with communication bandwidths from 3,840 to 15,680 bytes, and non-volatile memory occupation from 800 to 1,568 bytes

University success of graduates with disabilities in Portugal: analysis of personal factors and resilience

    No full text
This paper aims to explore, from an ecological approach, the perception of the concept of academic success and the personal factors that contribute to the university success of graduates with disabilities. While multiple interrelated systems are essential to university environments, this paper focuses on the personal factors of academic success based on the experiences and perspectives of graduates with disabilities. The study adopted a phenomenological approach using semi-structured interviews. The data were collected at a Portuguese University in southern Portugal and analysed using an ad hoc inductive and qualitative coding system. The results reveal the diversity of perceptions about academic success and the importance of resilience, autonomy, and self-determination. These data contrast the conventional notion of success focused exclusively on academic performance and highlight to recognise the diverse contributions of these students to the university environment. Regarding personal factors, resilience is a recurring factor among participants. Adapting and persevering in the face of challenges was essential for success, alongside autonomy, self-efficacy, and self-determination. Interventions aimed at fostering these skills and creating an inclusive environment will contribute to making Higher Education more equitable and accessible for all.Universidad de Sevilla y Universidad del Algarv

Dataset of Sociodemographic impact of variables on cognitive, language and motor development in very preterm infants

    No full text
Data collection for this dataset began in March 2017, when the first contact was made with the families of those who had had a child born prematurely three years earlier. Telephone contact was initiated with the families treated in the Neonatology Unit of a third-level hospital in the city of Seville. The research was presented to them, and those families who wanted to participate were summoned to the hospital for the evaluation. At the meeting, verbal and written information was provided on the objectives, characteristics, implications and risks of the study. The final sample consisted of 59 premature children born between weeks 25 and 34 of gestational age in a NICU of a third-level hospital. At 36 months of age, the Bayley-III Infant Development Scale (Spanish adaptation) and a medical history were collected. At present there are few studies that take into account the role that parents' socio-demographic variables (such as age and educational level) play in the development of children born very prematurely. The aim of this work is to analyse the influence of the AG, the weight and sex of the children, as well as the educational level and age of the parents on the cognitive, motor and language development of the children at 36 months. Knowing the factors that can affect the development of very premature infants in the pre-school stage can help us create specific intervention programmes aimed at the most vulnerable premature and families with the greatest difficulties. It also optimizes resources to better follow up these children and their families in the medium and long term. Results: Although the cognitive, motor and language development is within average levels, worse results are evidenced in the group of extreme premature, as opposed to the very premature. Boys score lower than girls, with these differences being more pronounced in the motor area. It also shows how the education level of both parents is related to the levels of development at 3 years of age of children born very prematurely, especially in language. Conclusions: Lower GA, male sex and lower parental educational level are associated with higher risk of developmental difficulties. Practice implications: The findings of this study are relevant to clinical practice because they suggest to develop protocols of evaluation and the follow up of all premature children beyond 36 months, as well as developing specific intervention programmes for the most vulnerable of the premature groups
