Enhancing nonlinear solvers for the Navier–Stokes equations with continuous (noisy) data assimilation
We consider nonlinear solvers for the incompressible, steady (or at a fixed time step for unsteady) Navier–Stokes equations in the setting where partial measurement data of the solution is available. The measurement data is incorporated/assimilated into the solution through a nudging term addition to the Picard iteration that penalized the difference between the coarse mesh interpolants of the true solution and solver solution, analogous to how continuous data assimilation (CDA) is implemented for time dependent PDEs. This was considered in the paper (Li et al. 2023), and we extend the methodology by improving the analysis to be in the
norm instead of a weighted
norm where the weight depended on the coarse mesh width, and to the case of noisy measurement data. For noisy measurement data, we prove that the CDA-Picard method is stable and convergent, up to the size of the noise. Numerical tests illustrate the results, and show that a very good strategy when using noisy data is to use CDA-Picard to generate an initial guess for the classical Newton iteration
Dataset of Chain of events and characters
Compliance with voluntary nutritional labelling on alcoholic beverages in Spain
Access to nutritional information is a fundamental consumers right, as it facilitates informed decision-making regarding dietary choices. However, excluding a recent directive concerning wine products, European Union regulations grant exemption to beverages with an alcohol content exceeding 1.2 % from the requirement of disclosing nutritional values. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the industrys compliance with voluntary commitments for nutritional labelling of alcoholic beverages in Spain. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the municipality of Madrid (Spain) during March and April 2023. Data on 627 alcoholic beverages were collected. We considered that a product label displayed complete nutritional data when it showed the energy value per 100 mL as well as the corresponding macronutrients (fats, carbohydrates, and proteins). Only 22.2 % of these products provided any nutritional information, with beers leading at 56.5 %, followed by spirits (26.5 %), vermouths and aperitifs (16.7 %), and wines and sparkling wines significantly fewer at 2.9 %. Only 2.4 % of the sampled beverages provided comprehensive nutritional information including energy and macronutrients. These findings highlight a failure to meet voluntary labelling commitments in Spain, with significant variations observed across sectors. The government should ensure consumersaccess to readily available and accurate information regarding the nutritional composition of alcoholic beverages
This dataset compiles the responses and scores of a sample of Spanish women (n = 1,217) to the following questionnaires: The Silencing The Self Scale - Spanish Version (STSS-Sp); Beck Depression Inventory FastScreen (BDI-FS); and Women Abuse Screening Tool (WAST). The data file consists of 97 variables and 1,217 cases.
Redefining university success from the voices of autistic graduates and their support networks
This article explores the concept of university success and the contextual factors
that promote it from the perspectives of autistic Spanish graduates and their support
networks (families, friends, peers, faculty, disability services and other
professionals). A narrative methodology was used with semi-structured interviews,
personal written narratives from graduates, and co-designed interviews with autistic
graduates to gather insights from their key supporters. Data analysis was inductive
with a system of categories and codes. The results highlight a multidimensional view
of success beyond attaining the academic degree, encompassing well-being, a sense
of belonging, shaping support networks and the development of adult life skills. It
also highlights the crucial role of human support in the university setting, especially
in creating inclusive environments that promote the growth and agency of autistic
students. This study contributes to a more inclusive understanding of university
success and provides recommendations for strengthening inclusion in higher

Prediction of quality traits in packaged mango by NIR spectroscopy
Packaging with paper bags is essential for protecting mangoes during growth, but strongly berries near infrared (NIR) spectral signals used for non-invasive analysis of their internal quality. This study focused on eliminating or minimizing the interference of paper bags on the NIR spectra of mangoes and developed innovative solutions to accurately assess mango firmness (FI), dry matter content (DMC), soluble solids content (SSC), and titratable acidity (TA). Specific NIR signals at around 1150–1250 nm and 2100–2400 nm were highlighted, which significantly reduced the precision of NIR predictions for these quality traits. A deep learning-based fully connected neural network (FNN) combined with Gaussian spatial (GS) filtering were applied as an effective strategy to mitigate the spectral interferences of packaged mangoes. Additionally, partial least squares regression (PLSR) consistently outperformed principal components regression (PCR) across all quality traits based on the spectra of packaged mangoes after FNN correction and GS filtering (PMs-FNN-GS), with Rp2 and RMSEP values of 0.847 and 10.705 N, 0.932 and 0.320 % for DMC, 0.821 and 1.211 % for SSC, and 0.907 and 0.032 % for TA, demonstrating that reliable predictive accuracy for packaged mangoes was effectively achieved through the combination of deep learning and GS filtering
Are we truly ready for what is coming? A reflection on supply chain resilience in face of megatrends
Supply chains (SCs) have increasingly faced major disruptive events that defy existing management approaches,
affecting their processes in both the short and long term. Current megatrends (e.g., digital transformation, aging
population, growing urbanization, shifts in consumer demands, geopolitical tension, depletion of natural resources,
climate change) have impacted organizations, requiring managers to rethink the foundational assumptions
and develop new capabilities to obtain more resilient SCs. In this study, we analyse the readiness of
SCs for coping with disruptions caused by seven megatrends. Based on extensive debates among the authors and
supported by a narrative literature review, we framed this analysis according to four potentials of resilient
systems (monitoring, anticipation, responding, and learning) and three types of SC structure (linear, networked,
and hub-and-spoke). We debated and pooled our viewpoints to identify readiness levels for coping with each
megatrend, which allowed the formulation of research propositions to be further investigated. Overall, the
readiness of all resilience potentials varies across megatrends and SC structures, although the potentials to
anticipate, respond and learn seem to be less developed (either lowly or moderately ready) than monitoring,
especially when considering disruptions caused by changing demographics and climate change. Further, linear
SCs appear to be more vulnerable to most megatrends. Finally, we outline opportunities for further investigation
regarding SCs resilience to megatrends’ disruptions
Unveiling what cannot be seen: definition and impact of invisible disabilities on the completion of university studies
This article explores the experiences of graduates with invisible disabilities on how they define and assess their disability and how it influences their persistence and the completion of their studies. The study involved 29 graduates with self-identified invisible disabilities from Italian and Spanish universities. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data were analysed following an inductive category and coding system. According to the obtained results, the graduates considered that invisible disability was overlooked, as it goes unnoticed and is more difficult to detect or accept than a visible disability. They also thought of their own disability as being invisible. During their university studies, they faced difficulties such as a poor understanding of their disability and a general lack of social awareness, highlighting how stigma and stereotypes surrounded these disabilities. It was also evident that disability had a negative impact on their university studies, slowing down their trajectories and causing additional challenges, such as studying longer or accepting lower grades. The article concludes that social awareness-raising actions are necessary to promote positive perceptions of disabilities and to combat stereotypes and prejudices. It is crucial to stop viewing disability as a problem and to learn to recognise and celebrate diversity in society and within universitiesthe Ministry of Science and Innovation of SpainState Research Agency and FEDER funds European Union (grant numbers PID2020-112761RB-100/ Feder Funds
