Bericht zum Forschungssemester im Sommersemester 2024

    No full text

    No full text

The Application of Self-Determination Theory to Sustainable Entrepreneurship

    No full text
Given the environmental and social challenges the world faces, social entrepreneurship gained an instrumental role addressing these challenges. In this context it is important to understand what drives and motivates these types of social entrepreneurs and, eventually, how can new entrepreneurs be motivated to engage socially. This article applies the three basic needs of self-determination theory - competence, autonomy, and social integration - to the field of sustainable entrepreneurship opening up promising perspectives for promoting and motivating sustainable entrepreneurs. When applying this theory to the motivation continuum one can gain not only insights about the fulfillment of the three basic needs of sustainable entrepreneurs but also better understand their motivational drivers and how to eventually reach the highest level of intrinsic motivation. Overall, this work aims to contribute to the development of more effective support and educational programs aiming to attract and motivate more people to engage in sustainable entrepreneurship

Evaluation of a Contactless Accelerometer Sensor System for Heart Rate Monitoring During Sleep

    No full text
The monitoring of a patient's heart rate (HR) is critical in the diagnosis of diseases. In the detection of sleep disorders, it also plays an important role. Several techniques have been proposed, including using sensors to record physiological signals that are automatically examined and analysed. This work aims to evaluate using a contactless HR monitoring system based on an accelerometer sensor during sleep. For this purpose, the oscillations caused by chest movements during heart contractions are recorded by an installation mounted under the bed mattress. The processing algorithm presented in this paper filters the signals and determines the HR. As a result, an average error of about 5 bpm has been documented, i.e., the system can be considered to be used for the forecasted domain

Prototyping a Compact Form Factor Module for Physiological Measurement with Multiple Applications During the Daily Routine

    No full text
With the advancement in sensor technology and the trend shift of health measurement from treatment after diagnosis to abnormalities detection long before the occurrence, the approach of turning private spaces into diagnostic spaces has gained much attention. In this work, we designed and implemented a low-cost and compact form factor module that can be deployed on the steering wheel of cars as well as most frequently touch objects at home in order to measure physiological signals from the fingertip of the subject as well as environmental parameters. We estimated the heart rate and SpO2 with the error of 2.83 bpm and 3.52%, respectively. The signal evaluation of skin temperature shows a promising output with respect to environmental recalibration. In addition, the electrodermal activity sensor followed the reference signal, appropriately which indicates the potential for further development and application in stress measurement

Effective Communication of IT Costs and IT Business Value

    No full text
Digital transformation urges organizations to strategically invest in information technology (IT) to keep up with the competition. The responsible strive to choose the right digital initiatives that can maximize the benefit. Thereby, they still struggle to communicate IT costs and demonstrate the business value of IT. The goal of this paper is to get a deeper understanding of the perception of IT costs and business value and support their effective communication. Applying the focus group method, we analyzed in four interview sessions that stakeholders perceive IT costs and business value differently and that a common perception serves as the basis of communication. We then identified and evaluated 20 success factors to establish effective communication of IT costs and IT business value. Hence, this paper enables a better understanding of the perception and the operationalization of effective communication mainly between business and IT executives regarding IT costs and IT business value

Enhancing Inland Water Safety: The Lake Constance Obstacle Detection Benchmark

    No full text
Autonomous navigation on inland waters requires an accurate understanding of the environment in order to react to possible obstacles. Deep learning is a promising technique to detect obstacles robustly. However, supervised deep learning models require large data-sets to adjust their weights and to generalize to unseen data. Therefore, we equipped our research vessel with a laser scanner and a stereo camera to record a novel obstacle detection data-set for inland waters. We annotated 1974 stereo images and lidar point clouds with 3d bounding boxes. Furthermore, we provide an initial approach and a suitable metric to compare the results on the test data-set. The data-set is publicly available and seeks to make a contribution towards increasing the safety on inland waters
