Gene Therapy of Malignant Tumor: A Challenge but a Promising Way
The study of gene therapy for malignant tumors is a rapidly developing area that shows great potential in the battle against cancer. Although it has the capacity for success, tackling the complexity and variety of tumor biology remains a substantial obstacle. Several approaches have been investigated to address this problem, including the use of viral vector-based gene delivery systems, non-viral techniques such as nanoparticles and electroporation, and genome editing technologies like CRISPR-Cas9. These treatments seek to alter the genetic material of tumor cells in order to either impede their growth or trigger cell death. Nevertheless, there exist substantial obstacles that must be surmounted prior to the regular implementation of gene therapy in clinical settings. These factors include assuring precise targeting, minimizing unintended consequences, optimizing the transport of therapeutic genes into tumor cells, and controlling immune responses to the vectors used. To overcome these problems, it will be necessary to establish interdisciplinary alliances and conduct thorough preclinical research to guarantee both safety and effectiveness. However, due to the tremendous progress in molecular biology and gene editing technology, gene therapy has significant potential as a new method for effectively treating malignant tumors
Water Pollution and Cancer: An Updated Review
Water pollution refers to the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, and groundwater with harmful substances, leading to serious health hazards. One major concern linked to water pollution is its association with cancer. Numerous studies have substantiated that exposure to contaminants in polluted water sources can significantly increase the risk of developing various types of cancers. Chemicals like heavy metals (e.g., arsenic, lead), industrial pollutants (e.g., benzene, vinyl chloride), and pesticides have been detected in contaminated water supplies worldwide. These carcinogens not only contaminate the water but also accumulate in aquatic organisms consumed by humans, ultimately entering our food chain. Certain chemicals act as mutagens or tumor promoters, damaging DNA and causing genetic mutations that can lead to cancer development. Additionally, long-term exposure to these pollutants can weaken the immune system’s ability to fight off cancer cells effectively. Consequently, preventive actions must be undertaken swiftly at domestic, industrial, and governmental levels to reduce this pervasive threat through regulated waste disposal practices and advanced purification technologies

The Sustainability Literacy of Students: A Comparative Study between Turkey and the UK
In recent years, the sustainability literacy has become crucial for building more sustainable future. In this regard, a shift toward sustainability requires literate society on sustainability issues at global scale. Thus, the current study aims to detect the status of sustainability literacy of British and Turkish students. The study was conducted as a survey research with university students in the UK and Turkey within the context of a project that was supported by TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Organization) and entitled “Ecological literacy education”. The participants (n: 1023) of the study are students attending several departments of Plymouth University in the UK and Mugla Sitki Kocman University in Turkey. The data were collected by using the Scala of Sustainability Literacy and analyzed using appropriate statistical tests at SPSS 22. The findings show that the participants’ sustainability literacy varies significantly depending on their sustainability attitude (SA), sustainability behavior (SB), sustainability knowledge (SK). Besides, the results of t- test analysis indicate that the participants exhibit different tendencies depending on the variables nationality, gender and place.
