Πρώτη Ευρωπαϊκή Εβδομάδα Μικρομεσαίων Επιχειρήσεων: Χαιρετισμοί
Η 1η Ευρωπαϊκή Εβδομάδα Μικρομεσαίων Επιχειρήσεων είναι μία πρωτοβουλία της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής και περιλαμβάνει δραστηριότητες με αντικείμενο τις μικρές επιχειρήσεις σε 34 χώρες, βοηθώντας όσες βρίσκονται ήδη σε λειτουργία και ενθαρρύνοντας τους νέους να επιλέξουν την επιχειρηματικότητα ως σταδιοδρομία. Τα 23 εκατομμύρια των εν λειτουργία ΜΜΕ αποτελούν τη ραχοκοκαλιά της ευρωπαϊκής οικονομίας. Σκοπός των εκδηλώσεων, σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο, είναι να δείξουν στους επιχειρηματίες πώς να αξιοποιήσουν πιο αποτελεσματικά τα οφέλη της ελεύθερης αγοράς και να τονώσουν την επιχειρηματική τους δραστηριότητα. Για την προαγωγή του στόχου αυτού ανάλογες εκδηλώσεις θα γίνουν σε όλη την ελληνική επικράτεια
Implementing citation management and report generation value-added services over OAI-PMH compliant repositories
In this poster we present an application which harvests digital repository data and
presents them outside the repository framework. Its main advantage is the ability of citation management by supporting a variety of citation formats (e.g. IEEE, ACS, Springer, RIS, BibTex etc.). In addition, it allows configurable custom reporting, facilitating the management and the promotion of the researchers’ work. Currently, the application is in operation on top of a DSpace-based repository; however it has been
designed and implemented to depend only on information retrieved via OAI-PMH, so that it can work with any OAI-PMH compliant repository platform (DSpace, EPrints, Fedora, etc.)

Phosphate specific transporter system (PSTS) in Thermus thermophilus involves a DING phosphatase
Journal URL: http://www.springer.at/amino_acidsAbstractPhosphate transport in bacteria occurs via a phosphate specific transporter system (PSTS) that belongs to the ABC family of transporters a multisubunit system containing an alkaline phosphatase. DING proteins were characterized due to the N-terminal amino acid sequence DINGGGATL which is highly conserved in animal and plant isolates but more variable in microbes. Most prokaryotic homologues of the DING proteins often have some structural homology to phosphatases or periplasmic phos- 10th International Congress on Amino Acids and Proteins LXIX phate-binding proteins. In E. coli the product of the inducible gene DinG possesses ATP hydrolyzing helicase enzymic activity. An alkaline phosphorolytic enzyme of the PSTS system was purified to homogeneity from the thermophilic bacterium Thermus thermophilus. N-terminal sequence analysis of this protein revealed the same high degree of similarity to DING proteins especially to the human synovial stimulatory protein P205 the steroidogenesis-inducing protein and to the phosphate ABC transporter periplasmic phosphate-binding protein putative [P. fluorescens Pf-5]. The enzyme had a molecular mass of 40 kDa on SDS=PAGE exhibiting optimal phosphatase activity at pH 12.3 and 70 _C. The enzyme possessed characteristics of a DING protein such as ATPase ds endonuclease and 30phosphodiesterase (30-exonuclease) activities and binding to linear dsDNA displaying helicase activity on supercoiled DNA. In this work the purification and biochemical characterization of a T. thermophilus DING protein was achieved. The biochemical properties N-terminal sequence similarities of this protein implied that the enzyme belongs to the PSTS family and might be involved in the DNA repair mechanism of this microorganism
Extracellular Ca2+ transients affect poly-(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate regulation by the AtoS-AtoC system in Escherichia coli
Journal URL: http://www.biochemj.org/bj/default.htmEscherichia coli is exposed to wide extracellular concentrations of Ca2+, whereas the cytosolic levels of the ion are subject to stringent control and are implicated in many physiological functions. The present study shows that extracellularCa2+ controls cPHB [complexed poly-(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate] biosynthesis through the AtoS-AtoC two-component system. Maximal cPHB accumulation was observed at higher [Ca2+]e (extracellular Ca2+ concentration) in AtoS-AtoC-expressing E. coli compared with their _atoSC counterparts, in both cytosolic and membrane fractions. The reversal of EGTA-mediated down-regulation of cPHB biosynthesis by the addition of Ca2+ and Mg2+ was under the control of the AtoS-AtoC system.Moreover, the Ca2+-channel blocker verapamil reduced total and membrane-bound cPHB levels, the inhibitory effect being circumvented by Ca2+ addition only in atoSC+ bacteria. Histamine and compound 48/80 affected cPHB accumulation in a [Ca2+]e-dependent manner directed by theAtoS-AtoC system. In conclusion, these data provide evidence for the involvement of external Ca2+ on cPHB synthesis regulated by the AtoS-AtoC two-component system, thus linking Ca2+ with a signal transduction system, most probably through a transporter.
