THE WIND AS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT AND ITS IMPACT ON POPULATION TRENDS AND DEMOGRAPHIC CONDITIONS IN TRIPOLITANIA DURING LATE PLEISTOCENE/EARLY HOLOCENE

    Get PDF
The vast majority of Tripolitania sites are open surface sites, but after the introduction of paleoclimatology in archaeological research during 1980’s, even with the insufficient amount of research, we were given a new vision of the archaeology of the region in regards to technology, adaptation, and behaviourism. The archaeological study of the region has developed within its own right, producing individual characteristics, including the sub-regional parts of Northern Africa. From the 1990’s up through today, the archaeology of Tripolitania has benefited from these new developments with the introduction of climatology inclusive of geology, physical anthropology with genetic data, and the new methods of chronology and interpretations of cultural activities. This article will attempt to show the importance of the introduction of climatology and geomorphology in the study of surface sites where systematic excavations for whatever reasons had not been possible, yet certainly preferred. The geographical positioning of the sites in correlation with their surroundings, and the appearance and composition of the sediments in context with the archaeological artefacts, could provide us with valuable information about the connection between the cultures that inhabited this region. With these developments in research, we are now able to trace the cultural evolution of Tripolitania by paying particular attention to periods impacted by climate change (particularly wind), which had caused new geological and geomorphological conditions that forced the individuals of this culture to adapt in order to survive

    Get PDF
Nowadays, people are paying more attention to spending their leisure time, primarily due to the fact that number, type and importance of various activities increased. Due to variety of activities, tourism demand became more sophisticated. Also, new human needs are constantly developing and people are seeking the new ways to satisfy them. Some of these needs cannot be satisfied in the place of the residence, which is one of the reasons for increased number of travels, in conditions when people have more time and funds available for this purpose. Ski centers represent a popular type of destinations for spending the leisure time. This survey was conducted during the winter season 2014/2015 (December–April) at Kopaonik, the largest ski resort and one of the most important destinations in Serbia. Survey covered a sample of 200 respondents. Subject of the research is tourists’ leisure time within the ski centre as a specific destination, with aim of improving Kopaonik’s offer and its tourism facilities in accordance with available potentials for tourism development. Collected data were analyzed in SPSS (17.0). This program was used for determination of the frequency of respondents’ answers and their distribution by using the descriptive statistics, cross-tabulations of variables, while hypotheses are tested by determination of Phi coefficient of correlation. Results provide an insight into the socio-demographic profile of the respondents, the way they spend their leisure time at Kopaonik, which could serve as a basis for improving the offer of tourism facilities represented at this popular destination in Serbia

ECONOMIC-GEOGRAPHICAL AND REGIONAL CONTEXT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SERBIA

    Get PDF
Entrepreneurship in Serbia has not reached the necessary level of development, nor the one proclaimed by the economic policy after the year 2000. This is the reason why the negative results of the transitional processes are still present, ranging from high level of unemployment and low level of competitiveness to the high level of foreign debt. These negative consequences of the transitional processes have to be solved by the local governments, although the responsibility for this situation lies primarily with the state authorities (various ministries, Privatization Agency, etc.). This paper highlights some of the economic, geographical, strategic and financial aspects of entrepreneurship in Serbia. It includes the analysis of the region (spatial) and sector (structural) in entrepreneurship configuration, allowing a deeper insight into problems of economy and geography in Serbia, explaining the existing situation, as well as possible guidelines for the economic recovery of the country. Entrepreneurship development in the future, mainly in the production sector, represents a chance for inclusion of the Serbian economy in the global market processes, especially given the difficult situation of the majority of large companies at the moment

CHANGES IN SPATIAL-FUNCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF INĐIJA (SERBIA)

    Get PDF
In the municipality of Inđija the influences are very closely connected between the two most populated and economically most important cities in Serbia: Belgrade and Novi Sad. The benefit that is expressed in the position of the municipality has reflected the development of settlements, their population strengthening, diversification of activities and functional transformation. Changes in functional characteristics were analysed for 1971 and 2002, with reference to the last population census in 2011. Functions of labour in the municipality were recognized in terms of employment and distribution by activities at the municipal level and in terms of delimitation of labour centres on the basis of the daily mobility of the active population who carries interest at the settlement level. The observed trends can serve as a basis for determining potential routes of the spatial-functional development of settlements and municipality as a whole in future

AIR TEMPERATURE CHANGES IN SERBIA AND THE BELGRADE HEAT ISLAND

    Get PDF
Climatic regionalization of Serbia was performed in the paper on the basis of data on air temperature from 23 meteorological stations and using cluster analysis. Applying Mann-Kendall test and Sen's slope estimates, temperature linear trends were investigated within each of the clusters, but also at each station individually. It has been shown that a positive linear trend is present in practically entire territory of Serbia and that it is very strong in Belgrade. Differences in air temperature between Belgrade and the cluster in which it is located were examined on an annual basis

SPATIAL-ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF TERRITORIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA (BIH)

    Get PDF
The paper is based on the assumption that the root of the local development inequality is, among other factors, in inadequate territorial organization of local self-governments. The aim of this paper is to examine assessment of the territorial organization of the Republic of Srpska, with spatial and economic aspects. Due to the lack of planned spatial, functional and development model of territorial organization of local self-government in the Republic of Srpska, it is still not possible to adequately respond to the contemporary challenges of development in order to mitigate imbalance of territorial development. At the same time, the development of local communities nowadays is increasingly dependent on connectivity of the economy at the local, national and regional level. Developed local self-government is a prerequisite of active democracy and economic development, as on local level there are greatest needs and possibilities of participation of citizens in decision making process that directly affect their quality of life

THE ROLE OF HUMAN RESOURCES ON THE ECONOMY: A STUDY OF THE BALKAN EU MEMBER STATES

    Get PDF
In this paper we analyze the impact of the quality of human capital on the main economic indicators of South-Eastern Europe countries [SEE] at the NUTS 2 level. The subjects of this research are the human capital indicators of regional competitiveness. The quality of human capital depends largely on the age structure of the population and the quality of education. Those regions, which have the highest percentage of the working-age population and highly educated people, are able to achieve higher productivity and gain a competitive advantage over other regions. As main indicators of the quality of human capital we identified: population; persons aged 25-64 with tertiary education attainment; students in tertiary education and participation of adults aged 25-64 in education and training and human resources in science and technology. As main economic indicators, we identified: regional gross domestic product; employment and income of households. The aim of this paper is to determine whether there is a correlation between the indicators of the quality of human capital and economic indicators. As a main methodology we have used the correlation coefficient which shows interdependence of the analyzed indicators. As part of our analysis, we consider only EU member states that belong to the SEE countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. We conclude that in all countries there is a high multiple correlation coefficient between the indicators human resources in science and technology, number of students and employment

The article discusses a unique Belyana barge, which was built in the Nizhny Novgorod region for several centuries. Belyana as a type of vessels was designed for transportation of logs, sleepers, beams, planks and other forest products from the Upper to the Lower Volga. Originally, the center of Belyana construction was the village of Baki, which was situated on the Vetluga River, a tributary of the Volga River. The Belyana construction technique spread from the Vetluga river banks further to Nizhny Novgorod, and then to Perm region. Almost all aspects of Belyana construction starting from the logging finishing with its floating to the lower Volga, and also cost of transported products in the prices of the XIX century are disclosed. Due to Belyana is truly a popular invention, it was built by traditional methods, relying solely on the centuries-old experience. Any drawings for the construction never existed, that’s why the author relied on preserved photographs and drawings in the historical reconstruction of this unique vessel. At the beginning of the article a brief overview of the geographical location of Nizhny Novgorod, as well as the names of wooden ships which were sailing on Volga and its tributaries in the same times with Belyana are given. At the end of the article practical recommendations on possible reconstruction of Belyana and using it as an interactive museum of ethnography are given

The spatial variations of the literacy intensity of any regions reflect its educational standard and its diverse dimensions of development and Sundarban region of West Bengal is no exception. Education is probably the most important amongst the three elements of human development to quantify the Human Development Index (HDI) for any region. Thus education holds the prime priority for development of all the region and Sundarban is no exception. The literacy level of Sundarban is not far ahead than other backward areas of West Bengal. In the present era of globalization, ‘Education for all’ has become the matter of human rights. Various developmental schemes of the Central and State Government, like Mid Day Meal (MDM), Sarva Sikhsha Aviyan (SSA) etc. are able to make some positive loop and make a paradigm shift in the educational sector after crossing the first decades of the 21st century. The Sundarban region might be more developed than the present if its literacy echelon and educational sector improves much more. Proper education can make the inhabitants of the region more conscious and aware to do their betterment themselves as well as to save the biodiversity of the mangrove forest area of Sundarban. Thus an attempt has been made to portrait the spatial explorations and developmental scenario along with the regional disparities of the literacy status of Sundarban in the present paper
