Antonio Canova’s drawings in the Rare Books Collection of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità Library (Rome, Italy)
The paper aims to promote the knowledge of the extraordinary collection of anatomical subject drawings by Antonio Canova, the most important Italian neoclassic artist, owned by the National Institute of Health Library in Rome. The history of acquisition by the library and the analysis of their importance in the long career of the artist is also treated. A short story about the fortune of the drawings in the last 20 years completes the study
The art of those with lived experience: excavating the Adamson Collection
We describe the journey of a British mid-20th century collection of asylum art from the objects’ creation, through decades of obscurity, to an influential place among the international collections. Key aspects include the development of a contemporary narrative and ongoing work on the ethics of viewing these collections. We describe how the Wellcome Library is working to understand and catalogue this large collection
Initial experiences of embedded librarianship at a Danish University Hospital
The aim of this article is to summarise and present experiences with embedded librarianship, particularly in a diagnostic biomedical field, and reflections on how medical librarians can form partnerships in research teams to produce systematic reviews to strengthen the scientific basis in medical research. The article also outlines the different roles of the librarian as from the perspective of stakeholders and in light of the current literature. Additionally, the article describes some of the potentials and pitfalls in the role of an embedded librarian in a clinical research team
Supporting the medical research and daily work at the hospital – analysing the library and information services at the Kuopio University Hospital
Finland is undergoing a health and social services reform. This reform will reshape the structure, services and funding of health and social services and establish new counties and transfer new duties to the counties. The aim is to provide people more equal services and even out population level differences in health and well-being, and to curb cost increases. This means a new type of operational environment for the university libraries acting in the hospitals. A survey was conducted at the Kuopio University Hospital to find out the needs of the users. It shows that both library collection resources and information services are needed by academic and hospital staff
Personalized user training with card sorting in corporate environment: “Make sure you have the right information that you need in your work”
Introducing best available information sources and services to specialists starting in a new position is one of the tasks of Information Services in Orion Corporation. We developed a deck of cards to help us in finding out training attendants’ information needs and to personalize the training. In this paper we describe the process of creating the cards and how they are used in our training. We also share results of an attendant survey and address other outcomes of the project
