The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had decided to convert the houses of three stalwarts- Mahatma Gandhi, freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale and first Governor General of Pakistan Mohammed Ali Jinnah into heritage structures. All these houses are located on the premises of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. The PMC also announced an yearly award carrying cash prize of Rs one lakh for the best Parliamentarian from this year. The PMC and Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics will implement both the schemes. Addressing the media, Mayor Chanchala Kodre said the State Government is rendering support to the heritage scheme. Director of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics Rajas Parchure, Congress city unit President Abhay Chajjed and Gokhale's relative Sunil Gokhale were also present. "Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has agreed to give Rs 1 crore for developing Gokhale House, Gandhi Bhavan and Jinnah House, all of which are located on the premises of the Gokhale Institute. Whenever Gandhi and Jinnah visited Pune, they preferred to stay in these buildings," Gokhale said. Mayor said that all these buildings will be renovated and would given a heritage look. Chajjed said that Gokhale represented as a Pune Municipal Council member and was a good speaker. Even at the national level, he has done remarkable work. For identifying the best Parliamentarian, a committee will be formed with the help of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics to select the MP
