Teachers' Strategies in Teaching Speaking Skills at SMAN 1 Palopo
The study aimed to know the strategies used by teachers at S.M.A. Negeri 1 Palopo to teach speaking skills. This thesis employed Qualitative Method. The writer applied the purposive sampling technique to obtain the samples of the study. In getting data, the writer examined two English teachers in S.M.A. Negeri 1 Palopo. The writer also used observation-checklist, semi-structured interviews, and reports to get the data. The result of this study showed that teacher 1 used discussion, role-play, brainstorming, writing, conversation, blogging, picture description, and learning assignment. While teacher 2 used conversation, modeling, role-play, brainstorming, writing, questioning, reading, explaining, and playing ice hockey. Both teachers use various strategies in teaching speaking
Mind Web In Teaching Writing Skills at English Language Education Study Program of IAIN Palopo
The aim of this study is to find out the effective way to apply Mind Web effectively in teaching writing skill at the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program of IAIN Palopo. This study used Classroom Action Research. The target populations of this research were all of the fifth semester students at IAIN Palopo. The sample was taken from population by using Purposive Sampling technique. This case the research took 15 students of class B as a sample. The procedure of the research used three cycles namely cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3 to find out the ability of the students in writing skill. Before explaining the material, the researcher motivated the students. For instance, the researcher told the students to study hard because their parents spent more money for their education, so they must study hard so that they could improve their skill in English especially in writing skill. The final result found that the effective ways to teach writing skill to students using mind web were: (1) Dividing the students into groups. So, the researcher could control the class easily; (2) Telling the students to make a good composition in a few minutes. The researcher also went around to each group to observe activities of students whether they write a good or not good in writing composition; and (3) Closing the meeting by suggesting them to study hard and consult the difficulties they found to their teachers. This situation of the teaching and learning process became more enjoyable, interesting and effective
Improving Grammar Mastery by Using Scramble Method of the Eleventh-Grade Students at Senior High School Number 2 Palopo
This research focused on using the scrambling method to teach grammar at the eleventh-grade students of Senior High School Number 2 Palopo. The research problem of this research was: “Does the scrambling method effectively improve students’ grammar mastery?”. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the scrambling method effectively improves students’ grammar mastery. In this research, the researcher used pre-experimental design, and the treatments were conducted in six meetings. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students of senior high school 2 Palopo. The researcher used a total sampling technique. There were 26 students from IPA 3 class involved in this research. The instrument used to collect data was a written test. It was divided into pretest and post-test. The data of this research were analyzed quantitatively by using SPSS program version 20. The result of this research showed that the scrambling method effectively improves students’ grammar mastery. The mean score in the pretest is lower than the mean score in the post-test (63, 85 < 82, 23). The researcher found that the p-Value is 0.00, and the alpha is 0.05, therefore p<α (0.00 < 0.05). Meanwhile, the mean score of the post-test is better than the mean score of pretest (82,23 > 63,85)
Improving Students` Vocabulary Mastery Through Observe and Remember Game at the Seventh Grade SMPN 2 Palopo
This thesis is about Improving Students Mastery Vocabulary Through Observe and Remember the game at the Seventh Grade SMPN 2 Palopo. The problem statement of this thesis: Is the use of Observe and Remember the game useful to improve the students’ vocabulary at the seventh grade SMPN 2 Palopo? The objective of the research: To find out whether or not the use of Observe and Remember the game is effective in improving students’ vocabulary in the seventh grade SMPN 2 Palopo. This research applied pre-experimental. The population of this research was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Palopo. The population there is only one class that consists of 30 students, and the taking sample technique is a total sampling. The instrument of the research was a vocabulary test. The pre-test was given to know the basic ability of the students’ vocabulary and the post-test given to know the students’ improvement in students’ vocabulary after given the treatment and the research used to observe and remember the game. Then the test was calculated and analyzed using SPSS 20. The researcher can conclude that using Observe and Remember games is useful in improving students’ vocabulary at the seventh grade SMPN 2 Palopo. It was proven by a significant difference between the students’ mean score of pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, the students’ mean score is 51.00, and the students’ score in the post-test is 92.33. Observe and remember the game can improve students’vocabulary because students are active in learning English. Besides, using the game can improve communication between students and teachers when learning processes.
