The moderating role of green consumer values in the relationship between green marketing and consumer behaviour:
The study aimed to investigate the moderating role of green consumer values in the relationship between green marketing and consumer behaviour. The study focused on the important role of green consumer values in shaping environmentally conscious consumer actions, emphasizing the importance of considering these values in green marketing strategies. To achieve the aim, the study adopted a positivist paradigm, quantitative approach, and a causal research design. A survey technique was employed to gather primary data where a self-administered questionnaire was issued to 450 respondents who were purposefully sampled. The study’s sample constituted consumers that frequently visit hotels in the Eastern Cape. The key findings of the study suggest that there is a significant role that green marketing plays in consumer behaviour towards green products offered in hotels. Furthermore, the findings highlight how green consumer values influence consumers towards value-driven choices for sustainable practices in the hotel industry, high level of satisfaction and preference for green products. Based on the findings, government and the hospitality industry should implement policies that will provide incentives for hotels that practise sustainable measures. This could include free quarterly advertisement of green hotels, free hampers for consumers that make use of green hotels on a regularly basis, and a spa voucher for every new consumer. Government should also provide capital and resources to small businesses to upscale their establishments to meet green hotel standards, for instance provide funding for solar installation and for those who already have installed solar panels to be reimbursed a fraction of the amount they paid. This study makes a significant contribution by highlighting the important role of green consumer values as a moderator. It reveals how these values impact the relationship between green marketing strategies and consumer behaviour. The study provides valuable insights for marketers, emphasizing the need to align strategies with green consumer values to promote more effective and impactful responses from consumers towards environmentally friendly initiatives.Thesis (MA) -- Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences, Business Management and Economics, 202
Molecular analysis of Tigecycline Resistance in Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) in Mthatha and surrounding hospitals
The emergency of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales is prevalent and poses a significant threat to health systems worldwide. The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported a mortality rate of about 50% in patients with CRE bloodstream infections. This study aimed to conduct a molecular analysis of tigecycline resistance in 100 CRE in clinical isolates from Mthatha and surrounding hospitals. The results showed a notable high prevalence of CRE infections in neonatal, male surgical, and maternal and pediatric wards, predominantly driven by Klebsiella spp. (53.4%), followed by Enterobacter spp. (20.5 %), then Escherichia coli (6.7%). The present study performed tigecycline AST using an E-test on 100 CRE hospital isolates., A total of 92.8 % CRE was susceptible to tigecycline, 1.6 % intermediate resistant to tigecycline, and 5.8 % resistant to tigecycline. A multiplex SYBR green-based PCR assay for rapid detection of tet(X) and its variants, including tet(X1), tet(X2), and high-level tigecycline resistance genes tet(X3), tet(X4), and tet(X5) were developed. The results in 100 CRE clinical isolates studied indicated that there were no tet (X) gene detected that was responsible for tigecycline resistance. The risk factors associated with tigecycline resistance in CRE include age, pre-exposure to antibiotics, prolonged hospitalization, and undergoing invasive procedures indicated by strong r2 =0.9501. CRE gradually evolves, posing a significant threat to patients of all ages. Early detection of carbapenemase production in clinical infections, carriage states, or both is essential to prevent hospital based outbreaks. As using Tigecycline is the last line of treatment for CRE infection, the high rate of tigecycline resistance in this study is alarming for the healthcare system in South Africa. Tigecycline combination therapy is recommended when treating critically ill patients. Tet (X) genes are not responsible for tigecycline resistance in the sample of this study. The risk factors associated with tigecycline resistance in CRE include age, pre exposure to antibiotics, prolonged hospitalization, and undergoing invasive procedures.Degree: M. Health Care Professionals’ Attitudes Towards Patients with Mental Illness at Nelson Mandela Central Hospital
The belief that persons with mental illness are dangerous and unpredictable has been noted in several studies. This perception is often associated with fear in those who hold this belief. The unpredictable nature of mental illness may also be a factor in how health care professionals react to and provide care for mentally ill patients. This may lead to an increase in negative attitudes towards mentally ill patients thereby resulting in negative patient outcomes. In South Africa (SA) there is paucity of literature regarding attitudes towards mental illness. Most studies done in SA have focused on patients’ experience of stigma and community attitudes towards people with mental illness. This research was conducted against this background to assess health care professionals’ attitudes towards patients with mental illness at the study site, which was at Nelson Mandela Central Hospital, in the Eastern Cape. The aim of this study was thus to investigate the attitudes of health care professionals working at Nelson Mandela Central Hospital towards patients with mental illness…Degree: M. Factors influencing digital marketing adoption for female interpreneurs in small and medium enterprices of OR Thambo Municipality
The rise of the Internet has transformed the business landscape, leading to the rapid growth of major online retailers and service providers like Amazon, Facebook, and Google, all of which play significant roles in the digital economy (Kannan, 2017). Global internet usage continues to grow, with South Africa not an exception. The research seeks to explore the factors influencing digital marketing adoption for female entrepreneurs on small and medium enterprise in OR Tambo municipality. This dissertation employs a quantitative research design. The study employs structural equation modelling (SEM) techniques to analyse a comprehensive dataset gathered from 313 female entrepreneurs. The findings reveal a nuanced relationship between adoption of digital marketing and business performance. The SEM results indicate that H4, have a positive influence on adoption of digital marketing, and H5, have a positive influence on business performance. The hypotheses H1; H2 and H3 had negative relationship on adoption on adoption of digital marketing hence they were rejection. The implications of these findings are discussed in the context of factors that influence the adoption of digital marketing on enhancing business performance for SME’s. The dissertation contributes to inclusive economic development, policy implications; educational interventions; strategic business imperative and social impact. Beyond the economic aspects, the study contributes to social impact by challenging and potentially reshaping societal norms and expectations regarding women's roles in business. This research not only advances the theoretical understanding of the link between adoption of digital marketing and business performance but also provides valuable insights for designing effective marketing strategies to improve business performance on female entrepreneurs. The dissertation concludes with suggestions for future research directions to further refine an understanding of the intricate dynamics involved in the relationship between adoption of digital marketing and business performance.Thesis (Masters) -- Faculty of Economics and Financial Sciences, 202
