Saudi EFL Universities Students’ Perceptions of Taking Computer-based Tests and Paper-based Tests
No full textSome students’ performance during computer-based tests (CBT) is affected by many factors. Such factors include a high anxiety level before and during the exam day, which might lead to low grades and weak performance. However, a Likert-scale questionnaire was designed to address two research questions, and the methodology was quantitative. Additionally, the Likert-scale questionnaire was used to collect data. The researcher conducted the study at the Rabigh branch of King Abdulaziz University. The participants were Saudi EFL preparatory year students who took computerized tests. Furthermore, 100 participants completed the questionnaire items. The researcher applied data analysis to present the findings of the study. The results demonstrate that most of the Saudi EFL students at the Rabigh branch of King Abdulaziz University (KAU) expressed their perceptions towards the computer-based (CBT) mode and its correlation to the level of anxiety they experienced the day before and during the test

Assessing the Linguistic Influence of the Petroleum Industry on the Post-Paris International Climate Regime via Automated Content Analysis
No full textAs the Paris Agreement fails to mitigate the scientifically established climate change tipping points, the study analyses the petroleum industry's influence on the current international climate regime, as its business model is most affected by the regime's decisions. This influence is analysed by determining the overlap of linguistic structures –– two-words and nouns –– in the sustainability reports of 138 petroleum companies and three key UNFCCC agreements constituting the post-Paris international climate regime. The study identifies a high degree of linguistic overlap between the two sets of materials for specific sections. Furthermore, it detects a statistically significant increase in linguistic overlap in the year preceding the Paris Agreement –– indicating a direct causal influence of the industry regulatory capturing the Agreement. These findings, in light of existing research, provide additional empirical evidence of the ongoing direct influence of the petroleum industry on key UNFCCC agreement
