Climate change and variability impacts on agriculture
While agriculture is crucial to feeding people, it is strongly impacted by climate change and variability, and also contributes to it. Agriculture and land use change are responsible for around ¼ of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. Climate change already impacts the quantity, quality and geographic distribution of food production from agriculture. Projected impact shows that 10% and more than 30% of current food production areas will be unsuitable by 2050 and then 2100 respectively, under the high-emissions scenario SSP-8.5 (compared with less than 8% by 2100 under the scenario SSP1-2.6). The negative effects of climate change are expected for all crops (perennial and annual crops) and latest 21st-century projections using ensembles of crop and climate models suggest a significant impact on yields for several major producing regions before 2040. Impacts on the geographical distribution of food production will lead to an increase in the number of people threatened by hunger and will further increase pressure on the terrestrial ecosystem services (ES) that support global food systems. These intertwined interactions create a vicious circle, with agriculture contributing to climate change, which in turn puts pressure on the sustainability and productivity of agricultural systems. Faced with these crucial challenges, sustainable and resilient agricultural practices that explore innovative solutions to mitigate the environmental footprint of agrosystems while strengthening the capacity of agricultural systems to adapt to climate change are urgently needed. This broad ambition requires solving multiple challenges, one of which is the scale of design and implementation. Most research into climate change adaptation of agriculture is carried out at continental to global scale and considers abrupt adaptation, such as substituting a particular type of crop or shifting a crop to another region. However, landscape and land use can generate a high spatial variability of climate, which may increase or decrease the impact of climate change at local scales. And adaptation and mitigation strategies are generally applied at local scale by local authorities and farmers. The issue of mitigation is also crucial, as shifting to more productive areas under future climate conditions may be considered an effective strategy, but such adjustments will have a significant impact on mitigation efforts
Dealing with multilingual patients can be a challenge for speech therapists. This article examines the relevance of using the language biography (LB) activity, borrowed from language didactics, as a tool in speech therapy to contribute to the therapeutic alliance. In an exploratory approach, 15 speech therapists were recruited to offer LB to their young patients. One month after the activity, they answered a questionnaire asking them about their experience. An analysis of the testimonies obtained shows that LB is a medium for exchange that serves the therapeutic alliance : it helps reinforce a relationship of trust between speech therapist and patient, and to value the patient's multilingual background. However, the survey also highlights areas for improvement, such as the early use of the LB in the treatment process, and better mastery of the tool by the speech therapist prior to the activity.L’accueil du patient plurilingue peut représenter un défi pour l’orthophoniste.

Putting to the test of a precursor model of chemical changes of matter with 5 th grade students in France
International audienceThis presentation sets out a precursor model of chemical changes and a study aiming to put this model to the test with 5 th grade students in France. Precursor models are elementary school science models, precursor cognitively speaking and aiming at constructing concepts different from daily concepts. Drawing on the literature and an exploratory study, a precursor model of chemical change was built, including three aspects: the link between a substance and its chemical properties, the role of chemical properties and the transformation of a substance. Our aim is to determine whether the students are able to identify a substance chemical properties and to use them, through an example. A conceptual path including experiments and videos was designed and implemented through 21 individual interviews where chemical properties of sodium bicarbonate were presented. These properties were shown by bringing into contact bicarbonate either with water or vinegar. The students had to use them to identify the solids recovered after the mixtures separation. The transcripts were analysed to determine whether the students proposed procedures to identify the recovered solids and were then able to use the properties for the identification. 18 students thought there was still bicarbonate in mixture1 (water) and 9 in mixture 2 (vinegar). 18 students identified solid 1 as bicarbonate and 15 students used the properties to declare that solid 2 was not bicarbonate. However, some students expressed the idea of separation of the substance from its properties which is an obstacle to the construction of the substance concept.</div
Learning Feedback Policy from Historical Data: An Offline Approach within Pyrates
International audienceThe expense and logistics of organizing experiments to train and evaluate teaching policies, as well as the potential negative impacts of these policies on the very first students, are significant challenges in the field of education. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using offline reinforcement learning (RL) to learn an adaptive feedback policy that improves student progress in \textit{Pyrates}, a programming platform. Leveraging an existing dataset of teacher-provided feedback and student interactions and codes, we have developed an offline RL model capable of learning an optimal feedback policy without direct interaction with students. The trained policy is then evaluated to assess its effectiveness in maximizing student progress and its suitability for online deployment in real-world educational settings. Our evaluation yields promising results, demonstrating that offline-trained policies can significantly enhance student progress, highlighting their potential for scalable deployment in programming platforms. However, challenges remain in ensuring robustness and adaptability when transitioning to online use
