Evidence of nuclear geometry-driven anisotropic flow in OO and Ne-Ne collisions at sNN\mathbf{\sqrt{{\textit s}_{\rm\mathbf {NN}}}} = 5.36 TeV

    No full text
International audienceA central question in strong-interaction physics, governed by quantum chromodynamics (QCD), is whether femto-scale droplets of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) form in small collision systems involving projectiles significantly smaller than heavy ions. Collisions of light ions such as 16^{16}O and 20^{20}Ne offer a unique opportunity to probe the emergence of collective behavior in QCD matter. This Letter presents the first measurements of elliptic (v2v_2) and triangular (v3v_3) flow of charged particles in 16^{16}O-16^{16}O and 20^{20}Ne-20^{20}Ne collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN=5.36\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}} = 5.36 TeV with the ALICE detector. The hydrodynamic model predictions, explicitly incorporating the nuclear structures of 16^{16}O and 20^{20}Ne, exhibit a good agreement with the flow measurements presented. The observed increase of v2v_2 in central Ne-Ne collisions relative to OO collisions, driven by the nuclear geometries, highlights the importance of utilizing light nuclei with well-defined geometric shapes to constrain the initial conditions. These findings support the presence of nuclear geometry-driven hydrodynamic flow in light-ion collisions at the LHC

Diversification des Données pour l'Identification d'Empreinte RF

    No full text
International audienceThis paper proposes to improve the resilience of the Radio Frequency Fingerprint (RFF) identification to thepropagation channel effects by massively diversifying the transmitted data. RFF refers to a unique signature resulting from signaldistortions caused by the imperfections of the hardware transmission chains. RFF identification mainly relies on supervised DeepLearning (DL) techniques, which require an unbiased training database to avoid over-fitting the propagation channel environment. This can be achieved during signal acquisition by acquiring many different channel realisations. However, designing such databaseis time-consuming, mainly due to the diversity process. In this paper, instead of adding diversity to the channel, we propose to adddiversity to the data to improve the data acquisition time of up to 16 times.

    No full text

Exploring the role of climate in esca disease incidence through 20 years of large-scale vineyard monitoring in France

International audienceDieback, caused by biotic and abiotic factors, reduces productivity and increases mortality inperennial plants. Grapevines are particularly affected, notably by wood diseases andincreasingly frequent droughts and heat waves. Among wood diseases, esca is particularlydamaging and is characterised by the expression of leaf symptoms in vineyards during thesummer. However, the factors influencing esca incidence remain poorly understood.Modelling the role of climatic factors, on large spatial and temporal scales, would help toimprove our understanding of the risk factors for this disease. To study the intra-seasonal andinter-annual variation in the incidence of esca expression in relation to climate in France, twotypes of approach were used with SAFRAN climate indicators estimated on 8x8km grids. Thefirst, based on 50 plots in the south-west and 11 grape varieties monitored weekly between2003 and 2021, analysed the impact of climate on the weekly incidence of esca. The second,on 493 plots in six wine-growing regions and 10 grape varieties (2003-2022), explored theeffect of climate and vine phenology (via ecoclimatic indicators) on the annual incidence ofsymptoms. Our results show that a warmer climate before the expression of esca symptomsleads to earlier symptoms during the season and increases the weekly proportion ofsymptomatic vines, except in the case of drought, as esca is inhibited by low soil humidity.Annual incidence depends on the climate during the growing season of each grapevinevariety. Overall, the incidence of esca is correlated with rising temperatures over the year, but is inhibited by factors limiting plant transpiration, such as a high VPD (vapour pressuredeficit). These results offer prospects for a better understanding of the interactions betweenplants, climate and diseases, and thus for anticipating the risk of grapevine dieback
