Sub-Regional Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Plan for the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape
No full textThe Sub-Regional Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Plan for the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape was designed to enable the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME) to achieve a common fisheries management vision by 2030. The plan is the first known sub-regional EAFM plan in fisheries management literature; it includes specific management goals, objectives, and management actions to be undertaken by relevant governmental agencies, non-governmental partners, and multi-lateral/regional organizations focused on fisheries management and biodiversity conservation in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The plan is an entirely voluntary agreement and all proposed management actions are ‘offered’ (i.e., contributed) and ‘maintained’ at the discretion of each participating nation implementing the plan.
The plan was developed through a collaborative process led by the USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans), with its partner the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), and in participation with relevant national fisheries agencies, fisheries management experts, and non-governmental partners. As a priority Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security’s (CTI-CFF) seascape, the Sub-Regional Plan was finalized and endorsed by the CTI-CFF’s member countries and their EAFM and Seascape Working Group in December 2018
Report of the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting in Surat Thani

The meeting aimed to provide participants the understanding of fisheries management, concept of the project, and role for implementing 2 selected Refugia sites in Thailand, i.e. Chang Strait in Trat Province and Samui Island in Surat Thani Province. The meeting was attended by 54 participants, including Fishermen, Local administrators, NGO, Fish Trader, Surat Thani Fisheries Provincial Office, Resource persons, meeting organizer and observers. The meeting results are summarized as follows: 1) reviewed list of activities in the past; 2) list of priority species and threats to their life cycles; 3) stakeholder analysis; 4) baseline information needs; 5) socio-economic survey plan; and 6) ways of communication.UNEP/GE

A Survey of Gill and Digestive System Parasites of Brownbanded Bambooshark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) from the Gulf of Thailand
Get PDFThe species of benthic shark, BrownBanded Bambooshark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) were collected from Exclusive Economic Zone of the Gulf of Thailand. Fish samples were examined both of external and internal parasite. 15 samples of sharks found only 12 sharks that infected with parasites. Two family of endoparasites, family Onchobothrithriidae and family Phyllobothriidae of phylum platyhelminthes were found highest prevalence and mean intensity at gastrointestinal especially at the intestine that unidentified. Three genus of ectoparasites, Eudactylina Gnathia and Caligus were found at the gill area. They had prevalence and mean intensity follow by intestine and that also unidentified species

Get PDFOn July 5-6, 2018, a two-day workshop to finalize the draft Sub-Regional Plan was held in Mandaue City, Philippines, co-organized by USAID Oceans, GIZ, and CTI-CFF, and delegates of the three countries that share the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape (Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines). The workshop followed the CTI-CFF Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape Convergence Meeting, where Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape member countries discussed regional concerns and reviewed the draft plan. Malaysia CDT Gap Analysis and Partnership Appraisal
Get PDF-From February to October 2018, USAID Oceans conducted an assessment of Malaysia’s current implementation of catch documentation and traceability (CDT) through a gap analysis, rapid partnership appraisal, and development of a road map for implementing an eCDTS that will support the country’s compliance with U.S. and EU market requirements in the near term and other importing country requirements in the long-term. This appraisal presents key findings and recommendations, based upon consideration of the existing drivers towards eCDT from a socio-economic, policy and technology perspective, complemented with a rapid assessment of relevant private sector themes around eCDT. Key findings acknowledge the building blocks already in place within Malaysia’s seafood sector that could immediately be harnessed for implementation of an eCDTS. Finally, the assessment presents possible pathways for the Government of Malaysia, as well as its partners, towards setting up a comprehensive national eCDTS
