Get PDFThis report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”To enhance the capacity of government officers Technical Training Program on Biological Studies of Short Mackerel was conducted by Fisheries Administration in cooperation with the SEAFDEC/PCU, at Koh Kong, on 12-14 February 2019. 13 participants, including SEAFDEC, FIA, and FIAC in Kep, Kampot, and Preh Sihanouk attended the Training Workshop. The results are understanding of the following issues; 1) the role, responsibility, and skill working at FiAC and FiA; 2) Biology of Short Mackerel and Introduction of Morphological Study, as well as the sampling methodology at landing sites and species identification; 3) Maturity stage identification; and Stomach content; 4) record and sampling procedures for plankton, larval and juvenile fish by zooplankton net; and 5) operation of Drone.UNEP/GE

Report of the Baseline Survey of Short Mackerel and Fish Larvae Collection
No full textThis report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The Baseline Survey of Short Mackerel and Fish Larvae Collection was conducted by Fisheries Administration, at Koh Kong province on 11-16 August 2019. The survey aimed to monitor the development of short mackerel gonad, to interview mackerel fishermen on socio-economic and fisheries status, and to collect sampling fish larvae. The meeting attended by 6 participants, including leaders and officers from Department of Fisheries Conservation, officers from Fisheries Administration Cantonment in Koh Kong. Based on the survey, biological data of short mackerel are collected, the maturity stage are identified, GSI are calculated for further analysis. 20 short mackerel fishermen were interviewed.UNEP/GE

The meeting was attended by 20 participants, including board committee, Technical Assistants and observers. The meeting reviewed existing information and data of both selected refugia sites in Trat and Surat Thani Province including the impacts from fishing gears, fish biological data, existing management measures, and other management areas linkage to the management. The meeting also highlights 40 trawlers participated to the enhancing of blue swimming crab in Surat Thani Province by volunteer releasing the spawners (gravid crab) to nature.UNEP/GE

The meeting attended by 13 participants, including board committee and observers. The meeting aimed to acknowledge on 1.) Results of the First Meeting of Site-Based Fisheries Refugia Management Board in Trat Province on 4thApril 2019 at Trat City Hotel, Trat Province, 2.) Results of the First Meeting of Site-Based Fisheries Refugia Management Board in Surat Thani Province on 26th March 2019 at Wang Tai Hotel, Surat Thani Province, and 3.) Results of the 2nd Meeting of the Regional Scientific and Technical Committee on 21st –23rd May 2019 at Kampot, Cambodia. National Fisheries Refugia Committee of Thailand also approved of Quarterly Progress Report, Expenditure Report, Costed Work Plan and Cash Advance Request. The results indicate that the area around Koh Sed was suitable for Fisheries Project site of the blue swimming crab in Surat Thani Province due to the its richness of coastal ecosystems suitable for habitat and nursery ground in the area. For Indo-pacific mackerel, based on the survey in Koh Kong, Cambodia, the mature ones were abundance during January – March.UNEP/GE
