Using eCDT Systems within the EAFM Framework to Promote Sustainable Fisheries and Conserve Marine Biodiversity: Experiences and Lessons Learned in Indonesia and the Philippines
Get PDFFisheries traceability systems may track and document the movement of marine resources throughout the entire seafood supply chain. They can also be designed to promote fisheries sustainability, support the conservation of marine biodiversity, and track adherence to and/or violation of labor laws and regulations. To do this, traceability data (e.g., catch data) that are actively being collected in real time throughout the supply chain by electronic catch documentation and traceability (eCDT) systems can be shared, analyzed, and used by relevant managers for adaptive decision making and fisheries management.
This document shares USAID Oceans’ experiences and lessons learned in using eCDT to promote sustainable fisheries and conserve marine biodiversity in the Southeast Asian region. It illustrates the use of eCDT data to improve fisheries management with a focus on the small- and medium-scale fisheries sector; describes uses of eCDT system data for guiding or improving fisheries management and biodiversity conservation with EAFM plans; and demonstrates the implementation of eCDT systems through an ecosystem approach to fisheries management

Get PDFThis report are the approaches, activities, and outputs of the Project in Lao PDR. From the results of the case studies in the two target inland fisheries sites, the approach necessary to effectively realize the sustainable management of inland fishery resources is also recommended. Specifically, the approach established through this Project centers on allowing the fishers themselves to actively engaged in the fishery resources management activities. This was achieved by structuring the concerned fishers into fishers’ organizations. Discussed among the fishers during the meetings of the fishers’ organizations, are topics on fisheries management, fishery resource management methods and related activities, and the like, and where agreements should be reached before meetings are adjourned, to enable the concerned fishers to carry out their respective activities, duties and responsibilities in fisheries management. It is therefore the hope of SEAFDEC that once this Report is disseminated to the AMSs, it could be used as reference in the respective countries’ efforts of attaining sustainable management of their inland fishery resources

The objective of this field trip is to deploy and install mooring buoys at the boundary of mackerel refugia at Peam Krasob, Koh Kong province. This field trip was divided into (3) three activities, including meeting with Koh Kong FiAC, installation of mooring buoys at the boundary of Mackerel Refugia at Peam Krasob, as well as, dissemination of Provincial Hall Administration’s Noticed Letter on Closed fishing of Mackerel at Peam Krasob.UNEP/GE
USAID Oceans Final Internal Review Report
No full textSince the the launch of the Oceans and Fisheries Partnership Activity (USAID Oceans), the project has used a “Theory of Change” to guide program design and implementation for achieving program objectives, supported by testable assumptions under an adaptive management framework. An internal mid-term review was completed in early 2018 as part of the project’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities to test the validity of underlying Theory of Change assumptions and to adaptively inform program activity design during the second half of the life-of-project. During late 2019, a final internal review using the same analytical framework and survey methods at mid-term was conducted to: (1) review the validity of the USAID Oceans Theory of Change; (2) compare findings between mid-term and final reviews; and (3) identify key findings and lessons learned to guide future similar projects. This report summarizes the methods, results, findings, and lessons generated from the final internal review of the USAID Oceans project

The objectives of the surveys were to identify critical habitat of squid (Urotheutis chinensis) in Bangka Belitung; to assess critical habitat of squid in Bangka Belitung water including spawning and nursery ground of squid; to assess oceanography condition in Bangka Belitung sea; to assess biological aspect of squid, this includes growth pattern, length distribution; food habit, and genetic pattern of squid in Bangka Belitung; to obtain data & information regarding exploitation pattern of squid, fishing gears and fisher community of squid; to identify social system and institutions of fish squid community.UNEP/GE
