Report of the 6th Meeting of the Regional Scientific and Technical Committee
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”Project Coordination Unit of the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on Establishing and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand organized the Sixth Meeting of the Regional Scientific and Technical Committee (RSTC6) at SEAFDEC/Training Department (TD), Samutprakarn Thailand on 4-6 July 2022. The National Scientific and Technical Focal Point attended the meeting from six partner countries. The project's national focal points and the SEAFDEC/TD scientists also participated in the discussions. The RSTC6 finalized the progress works from six countries that align with the Results Framework objectives adopted by GEF/CEO. The main achievement of establishing 15 prioritized Fisheries Refugia Sites in six countries, in addition, to the effective management of critical threats to 15 fisheries refugia sites of about 1.36 million hectares (ha), is expected to be adopted. The RSCT6 analyzed the stakeholder engagement in the project activities. As of December 2021, 6,028 persons are engaged in 225 activities conducted at six country levels. The project considers gender mainstreaming in sustainable management of the fisheries refugia as one of the vital target outcomes.UNNEP/GE
Workshop on Fisheries Refugia Boundary Marking at Surat Thani Site.
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The Workshop on Fisheries Refugia Boundary Marking at Surat Thani Site was organized by Surat Thani Fisheries Provincial Office on 31th May 2022, back to back with the workshop on Fisheries Refugia Operational Management at Surat Thani Site on 30th May 2022. The workshop was conducted at fisheries refugia site around Koh Sed in Chaiya District of Surat Thani Province, aimed at being the initial activity for operational management at Surat Thani fisheries refugia site and for strengthening cooperation of fishers, civil society, and community organizations in the management of fisheries refugia at site. Besides boundary marking, seed releasing of significant aquatic animals was done in fisheries refugia for the purpose of fisheries resources enhancement and for celebrating the success of fisheries refugia establishment in the area as well.UNEP/GE
Report of Training-Workshop on Diving for Coastal Resources Survey
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”This report progresses the Training-workshop on diving for coastal resources survey was financed by the Project entitled: Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. It was organized by the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Division of the Department of Fisheries on 21st – 25th March 2022 at Rayong Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center, Rayong Province, Thailand. The training workshop was instructed and trained by four diving professionals from the Association of Thailand Underwater Sports. There were 15 participants from the Department of fisheries and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources who participated in the training workshop.UNEP/GE
