Complexity Dichotomies for the Minimum F -Overlay Problem
International audienceFor a (possibly infinite) fixed family of graphs F, we say that a graph G overlays F on a hypergraph H if V (H) is equal to V (G) and the subgraph of G induced by every hyperedge of H contains some member of F as a spanning subgraph. While it is easy to see that the complete graph on |V (H)| overlays F on a hypergraph H whenever the problem admits a solution, the Minimum F-Overlay problem asks for such a graph with the minimum number of edges. This problem allows to generalize some natural problems which may arise in practice. For instance, if the family F contains all connected graphs, then Minimum F-Overlay corresponds to the Minimum Connectivity Inference problem (also known as Subset Interconnection Design problem) introduced for the low-resolution reconstruction of macro-molecular assembly in structural biology, or for the design of networks. Our main contribution is a strong dichotomy result regarding the polynomial vs. NP-hard status with respect to the considered family F. Roughly speaking, we show that the easy cases one can think of (e.g. when edge-less graphs of the right sizes are in F, or if F contains only cliques) are the only families giving rise to a polynomial problem: all others are NP-complete. We then investigate the parameterized complexity of the problem and give similar sufficient conditions on F that give rise to W[1]-hard, W[2]-hard or FPT problems when the parameter is the size of the solution. This yields an FPT/W[1]-hard dichotomy for a relaxed problem , where every hyperedge of H must contain some member of F as a (non necessarily spanning) subgraph

Experimental evidence of a fundamental noise floor at the tens of millihertz level in laser locking onto unbalanced fibre-based Michelson interferometer
International audienceWe show the existence and explain the origin of a fundamental frequency noise floor at the tens of millihertz level when a low noise laser is locked on an unbalanced long-fiber-based Michelson interferometer
The fat and the bad: Mature adipocytes, key actors in tumor progression and resistance.
International audienceGrowing evidence has raised the important roles of adipocytes as an active player in the tumor microenvironment. In many tumors adipocytes are in close contact with cancer cells. They secrete various factors that can mediate local and systemic effects. The adipocyte-cancer cell crosstalk leads to phenotypical and functional changes of both cell types, which can further enhance tumor progression. Moreover, obesity, which is associated with an increase in adipose mass and an alteration of adipose tissue, has been established as a risk factor for cancer incidence and cancer-related mortality. In this review, we summarize the mechanisms of the adipocyte-cancer cell crosstalk in both obese and lean conditions as well as its impact on cancer cell growth, local invasion, metastatic spread and resistance to treatments. Better characterization of cancer-associated adipocytes and the key molecular events in the adipocyte-cancer cell crosstalk will provide insights into tumor biology and suggest efficient therapeutic opportunities
This thesis presents and analyses the findings that showcase value co-creation within an online community of a luxury hotel business: the Fairmont Resorts Hotels and International. The FRHI group consists of the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Swiss Hotel, and Raffles Hotels & Resorts, but the focus for this case is specifically the online community of the Fairmont Hotel & Resorts brand website. In July 2016, FRHI was acquired by AccorHotels Group. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the Canadian based hotel group manages over 74 hotel properties in 21 countries worldwide. The aim of this study is to analyse the value dimensions between the company and its customers from a digital marketing perspective. Previous studies relating to value co-creation in digital communities have for the most part focused on the consumer perspective in the creation of that value (Cova and Pace, 2006; Cova et al. 2011; Grönroos, 2008; Vargo & Lusch, 2004, 2008; Pongsakornrungsilp and Schroeder, 2011). This thesis adopts a holistic approach through a qualitative multi-method case study, and reveals significant insights into the relationship between brand communities and company strategies. With the proliferation of social media platforms and consumers dedicating ever-increasing time to online activities this research area is becoming increasingly important to companies and their marketing executives (Wang et al. 2016).Le processus de co-création de valeur est un sujet déjà bien étudié dans la littérature marketing.
A Unified View of Exact Continuous Penalties for l2-l0 Minimization
International audienceNumerous nonconvex continuous penalties have been proposed to approach the l0 pseudo-norm for optimization purpose. Apart from the theoretical results for convex l1 relaxation under restrictive hypothesis, only few works have been devoted to analyze the consistency, in terms of minimizers, between the l0-regularized least square functional and relaxed ones using continuous approximations. In this context, two questions are of fundamental importance: does relaxed functionals preserve global minimizers of the initial one? Does this approximation introduce unwanted new (local) minimizers? In this paper we answer these questions by deriving necessary and sufficient conditions on such l0 continuous approximations in order that each minimizer of the underlying relaxation is also a minimizer of the l2-l0 functional and that all the global minimizers of the initial functional are preserved. Hence, a general class of penalties is provided giving a unified view of exact continuous approximations of the l0-norm within the l2-l0 minimization framework. As the inferior limit of this class of penalties, we get the recently proposed CEL0 penalty. Finally, state of the art penalties, such as MCP, SCAD or Capped-l1, are analyzed according to the proposed class of exact continuous penalties
National audienceTwo models are called " coupled " when a non empty set of the underlying parameters of interest are related through a differentiable implicit function. In this context, several estimation strategies can be derived: either a joint estimation where the parameters of interest are retrieved by merging all datasets, or an individual estimation where the parameters of interest are respectively estimated from each dataset. In this paper, we show by analyzing lower bounds that the optimal process of joint estimation is always more accurate than the individual estimation process in the sense of mean square error for a general class of dataset distributions. This property is still true for the parameters that are not directly linked. Finally, we illustrate our results with the fusion of multiple tensor data.
National audienceThis work is an integral part of the DROÏD project, which aims at developping a distributed fiber-optic dosimeter. It is therefore necessary to develop a fiber that is very sensitive to gamma radiation. For this, it is essential to know the influence of the different fibre dopants on the radio-induced attenuation of the fiber (RIA). This work presents a quantitative study of the effects of thulium, lanthanum, cerium and aluminum on RIA.Ces travaux font partie intégrante du projet DROÏD qui vise au développement d'un dosimètre réparti à fibre optique.
