Signal Quantization using a Leaky Integrate-and-Fire neuron

    No full text
International audience– In this paper we present a quantizer based on the Leaky-Integrate and Fire (LIF) neural model. The LIF is the model according to which function the ganglion cells. Ganglion cells are placed in the layer of the retina responsible for the encoding of visual information, before it is transmitted to the brain through the optic nerve. In general, the LIF quantizes intensity values according to a threshold value, a given observation time, the presence or not of a refractory period in the neuron and the parameters R and C characterizing the resistance and capacity of the neural model. Varying the value of the threshold and observation time we tested experimentally the behaviour of the LIF quantizer to a given input signal and through this work we present the results and the comparison to the uniform scalar quantizer and the Lloyd quantizer.– Dans cet article, nous présentons un quantificateur basé sur le modèle neuronal Leaky-Integrate and Fire (LIF).

National audienceThe scientific and technical potential of a research laboratory gives a strategic character to the protection of its information system. The security breaches can easily affect scientific or technological data as well as their scientific, technical or human potential. The laboratory often lives in a complex environment by the diversity of its guardian ship and the diversification of its resources, while being confronted with an increasing scientific competition. In front of incurred risks, and in its functional and organizational context, it is advisable to identify what must be protected, to quantify the corresponding stake, to formulate objectives of safety and to implement the parades adapted exactly reserved level of safety. Such an action plan leads to rules. So that they are accepted, they do not have to hamper research, competitiveness, exchanges and national or international cooperation, patent production, publications and participation to congresses, and so on. It is an appropriate balance has to be found and to be kept. International audienceIt exists some non-drug therapy relaying emotions to take care Alzheimer patients. This paper presents a new application for emotions detection. Indeed, a subject listen music to stimulate his emotional state and 3 physiological sensors are used to acquire his bio-signals for emotions detection. After constructing an emotion data base during the learning phase, we apply the recognition algorithm on each modality separately. Then, these decisions are merged separately by applying a decision level fusion. The experiments show the strength of our methodology to detect efficaciously these 3 emotional states when a subject is listening to music, indeed, we get a recognition rate of 84.245

    No full text
In recent years, mobile devices have become more powerful in terms of computing power, memory, size and screen quality. These improvements have greatly stimulated demand for multimedia services including video streaming. Moreover, customers are increasingly demanding in terms of the quality rendered on this type of service. In addition, a bad experience of video streaming has a great impact on the perception that customers have of the operator. Optimizing the quality of experience (QoE) of customers on the services of video streaming is thus a major competitive challenge. In this thesis, we are interested in modeling and optimizing the QoE of the streaming services taking into account the usages and the mobility of the clients. In particular, we are interested in two strategies for delivering content on the mobile network: the Fast Caching strategy and the On-Off strategy. We develop analytical models that allow us to calculate major indicators of the QoE for the streaming service that are: i) starvation, which drives operators to send more video content to customers and ii) the loss due to abandoning the video playback, which pushes them to send video content in a strictly reasonable manner. An optimal balance is to be found. We also propose QoE oriented strategies by maintaining a good level of QoE over the entire network and optimizing the QoE indicators of streaming services.

Localization Game on Geometric and Planar Graphs

    No full text
The main topic of this paper is motivated by a localization problem in cellular networks. Given a graph G we want to localize a walking agent by checking his distance to as few vertices as possible. The model we introduce is based on a pursuit graph game that resembles the famous Cops and Robbers game. It can be considered as a game theoretic variant of the metric dimension of a graph. We provide upper bounds on the related graph invariant ζ(G), defined as the least number of cops needed to localize the robber on a graph G, for several classes of graphs (trees, bipartite graphs, etc). Our main result is that, surprisingly, there exists planar graphs of treewidth 2 and unbounded ζ(G). On a positive side, we prove that ζ(G) is bounded by the pathwidth of G. We then show that the algorithmic problem of determining ζ(G) is NP-hard in graphs with diameter at most 2. Finally, we show that at most one cop can approximate (arbitrary close) the location of the robber in the Euclidean plane

To a great extent, the success of the Web of Data depends on the ability to reach out legacy data locked in silos inaccessible from the web. In the last 15 years, various works have tackled the problem of exposing various structured data in the Resource Description Format (RDF). Meanwhile, the overwhelming success of NoSQL databases has made the database landscape more diverse than ever. NoSQL databases are strong potential contributors of valuable linked open data. Hence, the object of this thesis is to enable RDF-based data integration over heterogeneous data sources and, in particular, to harness NoSQL databases to populate the Web of Data. We propose a generic mapping language, xR2RML, to describe the mapping of heterogeneous data sources into an arbitrary RDF representation. xR2RML relies on and extends previous works on the translation of RDBs, CSV/TSV and XML into RDF. With such an xR2RML mapping, we propose either to materialize RDF data or to dynamically evaluate SPARQL queries on the native database. In the latter, we follow a two-step approach. The first step performs the translation of a SPARQL query into a pivot abstract query based on the xR2RML mapping of the target database to RDF. In the second step, the abstract query is translated into a concrete query, taking into account the specificities of the database query language. Great care is taken of the query optimization opportunities, both at the abstract and the concrete levels. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, we have developed a prototype implementation for MongoDB, the popular NoSQL document store. We have validated the method using a real-life use case in Digital Humanities.
