    No full text
This study examines the integration of cultural competence in English Language Teaching (ELT). Despite its importance, lecturers’ understanding of culture remains limited, making it difficult to implement in teaching. This study analyzes lecturers’ knowledge of culture, intercultural competence (IC), and intercultural awareness (ICA) in ELT. A qualitative research method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four English lecturers at IAIN Bone, selected purposively based on their teaching experience and involvement in culture-based instruction. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in their understanding and implementation of IC in the classroom. The findings indicate that most lecturers acknowledge the significance of culture and intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in ELT. However, their approaches vary, from merely transmitting cultural information to prioritizing dialects over broader cultural aspects. Some lecturers also adhere to the native speaker (NS) model, which contradicts the ideal integration of IC in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. This study recommends training programs for lecturers on IC and ICA and curriculum development emphasizing cultural integration in ELT. Future research could explore more specific teaching approaches and their impact on students’ intercultural competence

    Get PDF
Ulama play a crucial role as agents of social control through their knowledge and leadership in society. In the Mandailing region, the presence of Ulama is significant and has contributed meaningfully to the development of Islamic scholarship in the archipelago. Among them, three prominent figures, Shaykh Abdul Halim Khatib, Shaykh Syihabuddin, and Shaykh Abdul Qadir Bin Shabir, stand out with intellectual capacities comparable to other renowned Nusantara Ulama. This study aims to analyze their scientific networks and intellectual social constructions. Using a qualitative approach and library research methods, including documentation and content analysis, the research explores the underlying patterns of their scholarly engagement. Findings show that Mandailing Ulama focuses more on community movements than written scholarship. This is largely because the local society values Ulama as religious scholars and traditional and social leaders. Their active involvement in communal life limits the time and opportunity for writing. Nonetheless, the intellectual focus of these three Ulama centers on fundamental Islamic theology, particularly the 20 attributes of Allah (sifat 20). Shaykh Syihabuddin is especially noted for his contribution to the Naqshbandiyyah Sufi order, which he elaborates in his book Fath al-Qalb. This work extends beyond theoretical insights into practical spirituality. Similarly, Shaykh Abdul Halim Khatib was deeply engaged in Sufi practice and reportedly taught such knowledge at the Mustafawiyah Pesantren. The three Ulama exemplify a blend of spiritual leadership and theological scholarship rooted in the Mandailing context

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the stylistic aspects of Surah Az-Zumar verses 71–74, focusing on the eschatological representation of the Qur'an through linguistic elements. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing library research. The primary data consists of Surah Az-Zumar verses 71–74 and classical and modern exegeses collected through documentation. Data analysis uses qualitative content analysis based on the Qalyubi stylistic framework, encompassing phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels. Phonological analysis reveals a consistent end-rhyme pattern and internal rhythm, reinforced by assonance and tempo variations, which create significant emotional and aesthetic impacts. Morphologically, the strategic use of passive forms, such as "sīqa" and "futiḥat," emphasizes eschatological events and enhances visual imagery, thereby building dramatic tension. From a syntactic perspective, formulaic repetition and stylistic ellipsis highlight the narrative contrast between the destinies of the inhabitants of Paradise and Hell, clarifying the divine message of justice and engaging readers emotionally. Semantically, the employment of musyākalah and muqābalah khilāfī enriches the narrative by subtly contrasting the two destinies through word choice. In conclusion, stylistic elements in Surah Az-Zumar verses 71–74 are not merely aesthetic embellishments but serve as profound theological tools, shaping readers' cognitive, affective, and spiritual experiences of eschatological reality
