    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CURSORY READING TECHNIQUE TO INCREASE THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF SMA MUHAMMADIYAH KALOSI ENREKANG REGENCY

    This research consisted of two objectives research, first objective research that was to find out whether or not the use of the cursory reading technique is effective to increase the reading comprehension of students, and second objective research that was to find out whether or not the interested of students in learning reading comprehension by using cursory reading technique. This research applied a quasi-experimental design, and cluster random sampling technique. The population of this research  that  was  the  second  grade  students  of  SMA  Muhammadiyah  Kalosi Enrekang  regency.  The  sample  of  this  research  consisted  of  72  students  which divided two groups (experimental and control group). Research instruments were used to collect the data of reading comprehension in this research those are reading test and questionnaire. The result of the students’ reading comprehension in this research explained that the experimental  group increased significantly. Moreover, based on the students’ response on questionnaire showed that the mean score of interest was 75.00 and it was categorized as interested

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan sosial dalam nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif yang bersifat kausalitas. Populasi penelitian ini adalah masyarakat kabupaten Sidenreng Rappang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Nilai atau sistem nilai yang dianut seseorang atau suatu masyarakat mempunyai beberapa karakteristik. Pertama, nilai merupakan hasil dari suatu proses intraksi manusia daslam kehidupannya. Dalam proses tersebut banyak faktor yang mempengaruhinya, baik faktor internal maupun eksternal. Kedua, nilai selalu berkaitan dengan kepentingan yang bersangkutan. Dengan demikian, nilai merupakan respon yang dibuat seseorang atau suatu masyarakat dengan bertitik tolak dari kepentingan masing-masing. Ketiga, nilai yang diyakini tersebut tidak selalu berada dalam tataran yang sama. Nilai memiliki hirarki. Ada nilai yang tertanam dalam pada pribadi seseorang, tapi ada pula yang tidak begitu dalam diyakininya. Karakteristik nilai yang ketiga ini ditentukan oleh karakteristik nilai yang pertama dan kedua. Keempat, nilai-nilai yang ada dalam sisten nilai tidak selamanya sejalan. Dalam situasi tertentu seseorang atau suatu masyarakat berhadapan dengan nilai yang bertolak belakang yang sama-sama dianutnya. Dalam posisi demikian, nilai mana yang dipilih itu ditentukan oleh karakteristik nilai pertama, kedua dan ketiga yang dimilki oleh subyek pengambil keputusan tersebut

    Is it Application of Extended Writing Truly Push Writing Student Ability?

    The extended writing allowed the incorporation of the process into the assessment of writing skills and encouraged increased students autonomy. The research was conducted through a classroom action research (CAR) that comprising 18 students. The results of the student's writing text in the cycle 1 and cycle 2 had increased in different scores. The means scores in data source where 61.67 become 63.61 in cycle 1, and after revision, in the cycle 2, the mean score in cycle 2 was 74.72 by application of extended writing project assessment. The successful minimal criterion (KKM) was 70. It can be seen that the application of Extended Writing Project Assessment was increased significantly. The most obvious consequence of this is that the ideas presented by the students are better, and the time needed to complete an essay is much more efficient

    KETIDAKEFEKTIFAN RAGAM BAHASA JURNALISTIK MAJALAH MAKASSAR TERKINI

    Penelitian   ini   bertujuan   mendeskrifsikan   aspek-aspek   ketidakefektifan   ragam   bahasa jurnalistik pada majalah Makassar Terkini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini adalah kalimat-kalimat dalam majalah Makassar Terkini yang terbit bulan Januari dan Februari 2017. Pengumpulan data penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi, teknik baca simak,  teknik  pencatatan.  Data  penelitian  dianalisis  dan  diperbaiki  dengan  menggunakan  teknik analisis data deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa aspek-aspek ketidakefektifan ragam bahasa jurnalistik majalah Makassar Terkini adalah kesalahan struktur kalimat disebabkan oleh ketiadaan subjek dan predikat, ketiadaan subjek diakibatkan penggunaan konjungsi di awal kalimat majemuk koordinatif, penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat pada kalimat majemuk subordinatif, serta ketiadaan predikat akibat kesalahan penempatan kata dan kesalahan ejaan terutama pada penggunaan tanda koma. Tanda koma digunakan tidak sesuai dengan ketentuan PUEBI seperti pemisahan antara subjek dengan predikat, tanda koma digunakan pada kalimat majemuk subordinatif yang didahului induk kalimat, tanda koma tidak digunakan pada frase aposisi, tanda koma tidak digunakan pada konjungsi antarkalimat. Hasil penelitian tersebut penulis menyarankan (1) sebaiknya wartawan majalah Makassar Terkini  memperhatikan  penggunaan  tanda  baca;  struktur  kalimat  terutama  pada  kejelasan  subjek dengan  predikat,  penempatan  konjungsi  yang  sesuai  dengan  posisinya;  (2)  sebaiknya,  wartawan majalah  Makassar  Terkini  memperhatikan  ciri  kalimat  jurnalistik  yang  efektif;  (3)  sebaiknya, wartawan majalah Makassar Terkini dalam menulis berita menggunakan kalimat yang tidak terlalu panjang (sesuai dengan ciri-ciri kalimat jurnalistik efektif); (4) sebaiknya, wartawan majalah Makassar Terkini memperhatikan Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia dan tata bahasa Indonesia agar berita yang dibuat dapat lebih efektif

    The Contribution of English Gossip Magazine on Students’ Enthusiasm in Speaking Ability

    This current study sought to reveal the impacts of corpus-based activities on verb-noun collocation learning in EFL classes. This study was carried out on two groups – experimental and control groups- each of which consists of 15 students. The students were preparatory class students at School of English Department, STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang. Before the treatment, a pretest was administered to both groups. The results of the pretest demonstrated that there was not significant difference between the control and the experimental group. Throughout the study, the experimental group was taught speaking through English Gossip Magazine materials taken from webzines, and the control group was taught through a conventional method. The results demonstrated that there is a statistically significant difference between experimental and control group in terms of the type of treatment, which signifies that English Gossip Magazine as a resource of learning material activities has a significant contribute on speaking development  in EFL classes

    INCREASING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH COGNITIVE STRATEGIES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL OF SIDENRENG RAPPANG REGENCY

    This research is a quasi-experimental research at the objective of finding the increasing student’s reading comprehension achievement through the cognitive strategies (rehearsal, organization, and elaboration) and to what extent these cognitive strategies influences the student’s reading comprehension achievement. The subject of the research was Senior High School of Sidenreng Rappang regency consisting of 50 respondents into two classes from 11 schools of Sidenreng Rappang; each class consisted of 25 respondents, one class a control and another class as the tentative one. The data were collected through the reading comprehension test in pretest and posttest and the observation checklist during the teaching and learning process. The test consisted 0f 45 items of test from three kinds (news item, descriptive, and narrative text). The observation checklist consisted of four statements for rehearsal strategies, three statements for organization strategies, and one statement for elaboration strategy. The research findings showed that the students’ reading comprehension increased for both groups from pretest to posttest. The experimental group was higher than the control one (60.6 > 50.1) and the t-test was greater than the P-Value (0.05 > 0.007) which means that there was a significant difference after giving treatment to the experimental group. The application of cognitive strategies also influenced positively to the increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement. So, it was concluded that the use of cognitive strategies (rehearsal, organization, and elaboration) is useful to increase students’ reading comprehension in teaching and learning words

    KEEFEKTIFAN PENERAPAN KOMBINASI MODEL KOOPERATIF TIPE TGT DAN TIPE NHT

    This is a pre experimental research which aims were determine the effectiveness of learning mathematics through application of TGT and NHT cooperative models combination which includes: (1) students’ activities, (2) teacher’s activity in managing learning, (3) students’ responses, and (4) mathematics learning student's achievement after the application of TGT and NHT cooperative models combination. Population is XII IA students at the first semester of academic year 2016/2017. The sample was 28 students taken through random cluster sampling technique. The results showed that: (1) students’ learning activities was good category; (2) the ability of teachers to manage learning was very good category; (3) students responded positively to the learning; and (4) the learning outcomes of after being taught by a combination of TGT and NHT cooperative models achieved 96,43% and the mean score is 83,04 with a standard deviation of 9,75

    THE PROFILE OF ENGLISH TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT AT SMA NEGERI 1 ENREKANG

    This  research  was  aimed  at  identifying  the  profile  of  English  teachers’ professional competence and students’ achievement at SMK Negeri 1 Makassar. The profile of English teachers’ professional competence was specified based on the two sub-competences in the National Standard of Education, in section 28, sub-section 3 point c. The researchers employed descriptive evaluation method. The population of this research was English teachers of SMK Negeri 1 Makassar. The sample was purposive sampling technique in which researcher chose the three certified English teachers as the sample. They were observed in the classroom while teaching and learning process and were also interviewed in relation to the implementation of professional competence in their teaching. The result showed for the first sub- competence, the teachers show their effort in selecting, determining, and organizing the materials by making their own module. In terms of the second sub-competence, all of the teachers have less effort in developing their professional competence. It can be concluded that the three English teachers still need more improvement. in terms of students’ achievement, the data from findings indicates that the highest students’ score is from teacher III. Meanwhile, the highest score of teacher professional competence among those teachers is teacher I. It indicates that many factors such as intelligence type, motivation, attitude, and condition of learning taking place that could affect the students’ achievement, not only the professional competence

    Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah (1) Bagaimanakah penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang? (2) Faktor-faktor apakah yang mendukung penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan Kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang? (3) Faktor-faktor apakah yang menghambat penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan Kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang?Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengkaji implementasi atau penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang yang meliputi budaya sipakatau, sipakalabbi, dan sipakainga’.Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan informan sebagai sumber data. Peneliti sebagai instrumen dalam pengumpulan data menggunakan tehnik wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumentasi, data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa implementasi atau penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan Kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang, telah berjalan dengan baik. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan telah diterapkannya nilai-nilai lokal berupa budaya sipakatau, sipakalabbi, dan sipakainga’. Seorang  kepala sekolah perlu pula menerapkan tiga gaya kepemimpinan orang Bugis yaitu: (1) rioloi napatiroang, (2) ritengga naparaga-raga, (3) rimunri napampiri. Faktor pendukung ada tiga adalah: (1) masih tertanamnya nilai-nilai lokal dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, (2) adanya sifat kekeluargaan dan kebersamaan, dan (3) adanya sifat tidak diskriminatif. Faktor penghambat penerapan nilai-nilai lokal dalam kepemimpinan kepala SMP Negeri 1 Enrekang adalah terjadinya pergeseran nilai-nilai lokal yang dipengaruhi oleh dampak negatif globalisasi
