Rytterdistriktskortene fra 1768-72:Et detaljeret indblik i dansk landbrugsstruktur før udskiftningen
KNV01525 Naurbjergvej 2
LEDER - Helhedsorienteret arealplanlægning under Den Grønne Trepart
The Golden Altars: Their Historical and Architectural Background
The golden images testify to familiarity with the pan-European ecclesiastical art and its forms and symbols. They also reflect the social structure and economicsurplus of society, which enabled its elite to invest in such magnificent and high-quality furnishings. This chapter provides an introduction to the historical background and architectural context of the golden images, the Christianisation process and the extensive church building, which created new spaces for Christian worship and a need for new decorations and furnishings. It ends with a short section on the history of the research that has been undertaken priorto the publication of this work. The golden altars are amongst the finest examples of North European ecclesiastical art of the Early Middle Ages. The evocative term, which was used in 1926 by Poul Norlund (1888-1951), the author of the pioneering monograph on the subject, refers to a small group of altar decorations made of oak frames decorated with fire-gilded copper plates and semiprecious stones from the period c. 1100-1250. The altars are associated with contemporary, metal-covered crucifixes and figures, most of which, either from the beginning or later on, were integrated into the golden altar decorations. The golden images testify to familiarity with pan-European ecclesiastical art and its forms and symbols, and they also reflect the social structure and economic surplus of society, which enabled its elite to invest in such magnificent and high-quality furnishings.
