A test of browser-based crawls of streaming services' interfaces PAPER
This paper presents a test of browser-based Web crawling on a sample of streaming services’ web sites and web players. We are especially interested in their graphical user interfaces since the Royal Danish Library collects most of the content by other means. In a legal deposit setting and for the purposes of this test we argue that streaming services consist of three main parts: their catalogue, metadata, and the graphical user interfaces. We find that the collection of all three parts are essential in order to preserve and playback what we could call 'the streaming experience'. The goal of the test is to see if we can capture a representative sample of the contemporary streaming experience from the initial login to (momentary) playback of the contents.Currently, the Danish Web archive (Netarkivet) implements browser-based crawl systems to optimize its collection of the Danish Web sphere (Myrvoll et al., n.d.). The test will run on a local instance of Browsertrix (Webrecorder, n.d.). This will let us login to services that require a local IP-address. Our sample includes streaming services for books, music, TV-series, and gaming.In the streaming era, the very thing that defines it is what threatens to impede access to important media history and cultural heritage. Streaming services are transnational and they have paywalls while content catalogues and interfaces change constantly (Colbjørnsen et al., 2021). They challenge the collection and preservation of how they present and playback the available content. On a daily basis, Danes stream more TV (47 pct.) than they watch flow-TV (37 pct.) and six out of 10 Danes subscribe to Netflix (Kantar-Gallup, 2022). Streaming is a standard for many and no longer a first-mover activity, at least in the Nordic region of Europe (Lüders et al., 2021). The Danish Web archive collects websites of streaming services as part of its quarterly cross-sectional crawls of the Danish Web sphere (The Royal Danish Library, n.d.). A recent analysis of its collection of web sites and interfaces concluded that the automated collection process provides insufficient documentation of the Danish streaming services (Aegidius and Andersen, in review).This paper presents findings from a test of browser-based crawls of streaming services’ interfaces. ENDURE: Sustainable preservation of underwater archaeological sites. A novel approach to cultural heritage management
Gross pathology and liver mercury concentrations in harbour porpoises, harbour seals and grey seals in Denmark, Northern Europe
Here we report the first investigation of gross pathology and mercury (Hg) in liver tissue from harbour porpoises, harbour seals and grey seals from Denmark, Northern Europe. Mercury concentrations ranged between 0.2 and 248 μg/g wet weight (ww) with highest concentrations found in grey seals and subadult harbour seals from the Baltic Sea, with no relationship to body condition. Necropsy findings across all three species decreasing in the following order: pneumonia (n = 60) > respiratory parasitism (n = 56) > wounds (n = 18) > GI-parasites (stomach nematodes and/or parasitic colitis) (n = 16) > ectoparasites (skin lice) (n = 12) > hepatic parasites/lesions (n = 8) > focal alopecia (n = 5) > nephropathy (n = 4) > middle ear complex parasites (n = 3) > nasal parasites (n = 2). Heart and/or lung worms were significantly highest in subadult harbour porpoises, GI parasites and nephropathy significantly lowest in subadult harbour seals and focal alopecia significantly highest in subadult harbour seals. Most cases of pneumonia were associated with respiratory parasites (68 %), while nine cases of wounds led to signs of septicaemia. Significant positive relationships were observed between Hg and the presence of respiratory parasites in subadult harbour porpoises and between Hg and the presence of focal alopecia, nephropathy, and gastrointestinal parasites in subadult harbour seals. Levels of Hg were in the categories for low risk (16–64 μg/g ww) in 18 %, moderate risk (64–83 μg/g ww) in 3 %, high risk (83–123 μg/g ww) in 2 % and severe risk (>123 μg/g ww) in 3 % of all individuals for health effects in marine mammals. In conclusion, using marine mammals as integrative sentinel species for Danish North Sea, Inner Danish Waters and the Baltic Sea ecosystems provides monitoring of ocean health in terms of multiple stressors such as anthropogenic contaminants and infectious diseases all being important in the context of global change.Here we report the first investigation of gross pathology and mercury (Hg) in liver tissue from harbour porpoises, harbour seals and grey seals from Denmark, Northern Europe. Harbour porpoise<i> (Phocoena phocoena)</i> in the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and requirements for trilateral monitoring
The harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) is considered part of the ‘Outstanding Universal Value’ characterisingthe Wadden Sea World Heritage Site (WS WHS). The Trilateral Wadden Sea Plan aims to preserve the conservationstatus of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation Area, encompassing the WS WHS. The plan has specified twoconservation targets for the harbour porpoise: (1) viable stocks and a natural reproduction capacity and (2) conservationof habitat quality for its conservation. To assess the current occurrence of the harbour porpoise in the WaddenSea area, we collated and analysed data from regional and national research projects using telemetry, aerial surveys,strandings and passive acoustic monitoring, obtained over the years 1990–2020. The results illustrate that porpoisesoccur in both offshore and intertidal waters, showing seasonal movements and changes in local occurrence over time.Some porpoises displayed limited home ranges throughout the year, suggesting a possible residency for some of theanimals using the Wadden Sea area. We also showed that methods, frequency and spatial coverage of monitoringactivities vary among the countries Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. We discuss the suitability of the differentmethods both regarding the challenges of monitoring in the complex Wadden Sea habitat as well as their abilityto target the conservation aims of the WHS. The BIAD Standards:Recommendations for archaeological data publication and insights from the Big Interdisciplinary Archaeological Database
We present a series of recommendations for the publication of archaeological data to facilitate efficient databasing. These recommendations were collated by data experts who mined thousands of publications for different types of archaeological data during the construction of the Big Interdisciplinary Archaeological Database (BIAD). We include data harmonisation vocabularies utilised for the integration of data from different recording systems. These recommendations initiate a move towards creating a unified and integrated framework for all types of archaeological data to ultimately sit within a single relational structure. We anticipate that use of the BIAD Standards will increase the visibility, usability and longevity of published data and also increase the citations of those publications from which data was mined

Microplastic pollution in the Thumbprint emperor (Lethrinus harak) from Tanzanian coastal waters: Occurrence, abundance, characterization, and relevance as a monitoring species
In the present study we collected the Thumbprint emperor (Lethrinus harak) from seven landing sites from the coastal waters around Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar (Tanzania) to (i) quantify and characterize microplastics (MPs) in their digestive tracts and (ii) use previously assessed environmental levels in nearshore surface waters and seabed sediments to determine whether L. harak could be a relevant biomonitor for MP pollution in the region. L. harak (n=387) had an overall frequency of occurrence (FO%) of 48 % and displayed spatial variation between sites with Kunduchi (FO=66.7 %) and Mijimwena (FO=17.1 %) having the highest and lowest FO%, respectively. Fish from Mjimwema had a mean MP content of 0.17 ± 0.38 MPs individual-1 whilst fish from Kizimkazi had the highest MP abundance (1.75 ± 2.33 MPs individual-1). Fibers (overall 64.7 %, range across sites 48–86 %) and fragments (17.9 %, 5–25 %) were the most dominant MP types whilst black (46.9 %, 40–58 %) and blue (22.5%, 7–36 %) MPs were the most common colours. Fish length (ρ= -0.09, p=0.09) or weight (ρ=0.07, p=0.18) did not significantly correlate to MP abundance in fish (Spearman rank correlations). Neither MP occurrence nor abundance was linked to MP concentrations in either surface waters or seabed sediments (Spearman rank correlation), but MPs in the fish better reflected MPs in the sediment compared to surface water (two-way ANOVA on ranked data). Whilst L. harak presents as a promising candidate to monitor MP pollution along the East African coast due to its ecology, overall, it lacks reliability. Nonetheless, the present study fills important knowledge gaps both geographically on the East African Coast and with an underrepresented taxonomic family (Lethrinidae ‘Emporer fishes’)
