Viggo Johansen (1851-1935) var en særlig skagensmaler. Berømt på sin egen tid og stadig virtuos og aktuel, når øjnene hviler på ham i dag. Imidlertid er han ikke i eftertiden blevet kanoniseret i samme grad som dem, han malede i nærheden af: P.S. Krøyer, Anna Ancher, Michael Ancher og resten af dansk kunsts absolutte top i slutningen af 1800-tallet
Anders Andersen – museumsmand, arkæolog og samler
I 2023 arvede Øm Kloster Museum en helt særlig oldsagssamling. Denoprindelige samler og ejer var Anders Laursen Andersen (1888-1963), som er enaf de personer, der har haft helt afgørende betydning for Øm Kloster Museum.Andersen var barnefødt i Gl. Ry og var desuden Ridder af Dannebrog, hvilketer en spændende historie, der har direkte forbindelse til museet. Samlingen blevskænket til museet af hans barnebarn Ruth Baunsgaard (1938-2023), der i sintid var med i den kreds, der stiftede venneforeningen ”Øm Klosters Venner”
Airborne metals and microorganisms during work with historical books – Exposure and biomonitoring
Exposure to metals and microorganisms can pose health risks. Historical books often contain pigments withmetals, and fungi. The aim of this study is to obtain knowledge about exposure to eight metals and microorganismsin a library in Denmark. Personal exposure of staff handling historical books (high-exposure group) andindoor and outdoor air samples were collected in three well-ventilated sites of a library. Urine samples werecollected the next morning from the high-exposure group, a low-exposure group (colleagues not handling historicalbooks), and a reference group. Eight metals were measured in air and urine samples using inductivelycoupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Bacteria and fungal species were identified using MALDI-TOF MS.Personal exposure to metals was higher than in stationary indoor and outdoor air samples, particularly forarsenic (As), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and cadmium (Cd), and some were spread to the indoor air. Personalexposure to As, Cd, and Hg showed a significant correlation with Pb levels. The overall indoor/outdoor ratio ofpersonal exposure exceeded 1 for all metals except antimony (Sb) indicating potential indoor source. Additionally,Cd and As concentrations in some urine samples exceeded Biological Limit and Guidance Values. Mostfungal species detected belonged to Aspergillus and Penicillium, and eight species are xerophilic. In conclusion,library staff were exposed to higher concentrations of metals as compared to outdoor air, warranting furtherresearch across different tasks and days for staff handling historical books to understand these risks better
Water absorption in medieval lime plaster:Influence of binder ratio, preparation protocol, and limewashing
Danish medieval wall paintings from the Gothic period are painted on thick limewash layers applied to very lime-rich pure air-lime plasters. This study examines wall painting plasters, replicated for the purpose of conservation trials, particularly focusing on their resemblance to medieval plasters in terms of water absorption properties. Plaster specimens with two different binder-to-aggregate ratios were examined, with and without the application of limewash. Moreover, the impact of the mortar mixing technique was tested, juxtaposing dry hot-mixed and wet hot-mixed mortars. Their resemblance to original wall painting plasters in terms of microstructure, porosity, and water absorption properties was assessed by comparing laboratory measurements to those obtained in situ on medieval plasters. The study shows that the binder content is the most important factor in replicating the general moisture-physical properties of medieval plaster. The preparation protocol has a clear impact on the crystal structure of the lime matrix, but no significant impact on the water absorption properties. Limewashing increases the initial water absorption rate, whereas the subsequent water absorption is affected by the structure of the underlying lime plaster matrix
Organizational Accumulation: Revisiting Capitalist Transitions and the Danish Farmer Cooperatives From the 19th to the 21st Centuries
When, how and why does farming become capitalist? This question has long shaped debates in agrarian studies and economic history. Although traditional analyses emphasize market dependency and competitive pressures, this paper argues for a shift in focus towards the diverse strategies of reproduction that farmers have employed in different historical contexts. Rather than searching for common capitalist behaviours, we should examine what made farmers different as they transitioned to capitalism. This approach is illustrated through the case of Denmark, where farmers from the late 19th century pioneered a unique strategy of cooperative organization to transition into capitalist agriculture. We introduce the concept of ‘organizational accumulation’ to describe this process, in which cooperative networks enabled farmers to strongly influence key aspects of production, processing and trade. By foregrounding organizational accumulation, this paper offers a new perspective on how capitalist farming emerges—and how its trajectories vary across time and place
