Development and validation of a French job-exposure matrix for healthcare workers: JEM Soignances
International audienceObjective This study aimed to develop and evaluate a job-exposure matrix (JEM) specific to healthcare workers and to compare estimates of known exposure-outcome associations using two exposure methods: the developed JEM and self-reported data.Material and Methods JEM SOIGNANCES was constructed using data from healthcare workers within the CONSTANCES cohort, according to job titles and sectors of activity, across 24 exposures covering organizational, psychosocial, physical, chemical and biological factors. The JEM was developed in a training dataset and its internal performance was assessed in a validation sample using AUC and Cohen’s Kappa. Association with relevant health outcomes (like pain, depressive symptoms, hypertension) were evaluated using logistic regression and compared to estimates obtained from self-reported exposure data as a reference.Results Of the 24 included exposures, 15 demonstrated satisfactory internal performance, with fair-to-moderate agreement with self-reported data, such as physical effort at work, ionizing radiation exposure, carrying heavy loads, shift work and formaldehyde exposure. The remaining exposures showed poor-to-moderate discriminatory power and poor agreement. Comparing association estimates, 10/16 associations based on JEM organizational exposures aligned with estimates based on self-reported data in direction and magnitude. For biomechanical exposures, 11/15 associations showed overlapping confidence intervals between the two methods. Other exposures generally underestimated associations.Conclusion JEM Soignances provided good internal performance, with good agreement with self-reported data for organizational and biomechanical exposures but not for psychosocial exposure. Further studies are needed to test its usage for research, though information tools could be developed based on it
Gaussian process regression with bootstrap aggregation for real-time prediction and optimization of methyl red adsorption
International audienceThis study investigates the adsorption of Methyl Red (MR) dye from seawater using a novel biosorbent synthesized from zinc oxide-modified Ligustrum japonicum fruit (FLj/ZnO). The adsorbent was synthesized through a green method involving mixing a 0.2 M ZnO solution with FLj fruit extract in a 2:1 (v/v) extract-to-solution ratio under controlled conditions (80 °C, pH 10). Adsorption tests were conducted under optimized conditions: initial MR concentration = 20 mg/L, FLj/ZnO dose = 100 mg/L, solution volume = 10 mL, contact time = 60 min, and pH = 4. Characterization revealed homogeneously distributed ZnO nanoparticles with a point of zero charge (pHpzc) of 6.8. The process followed pseudo-first-order kinetics (R2 > 0.99) and fit the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.991), with a maximum adsorption capacity of 204.77 mg/g. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed a spontaneous (ΔG° < 0) and exothermic (ΔH° = –150.52 kJ/mol) process, with negative entropy change (ΔS° = –473.17 J/mol·K) indicating increased order at the interface. A Gaussian Process Regression model with Bootstrap Aggregation (GPR_Bag) provided highly accurate prediction of adsorption capacity, with R = 0.9998 and RMSE < 1.1. A user-friendly MATLAB interface was also developed for real-time adsorption performance prediction. These findings highlight the high adsorption potential and predictive reliability of the FLj/ZnO biosorbent, making it a promising, eco-friendly solution for industrial wastewater treatment
Conjugacy invariants and rigidity in Garside groups: a uniformity phenomenon
Added a new author and new results on circular Garside groups.Consider an element~ of a Garside group which is rigid in the sense of Garside-theory. Let be the set of rigid conjugates of~ -- this is a well-known characteristic subset of the conjugacy class of~. We present computational evidence that the sequence is not only bounded, but in fact periodic, and that there is a bound on the length of the period which depends only on the underlying group and its Garside structure. We prove this result in the special case of the circular Garside groups, including the 2-generator Artin groups with their classical and dual structures (where we prove that the sequence is always constant), and in the case of the dual -strand braid group

Transformation pédagogique dans l'enseignement supérieur d'un écosystème par projet à un écosystème de conduite du changement
International audienceDans un contexte d’élargissement constant des missions des universités françaises (Ory, 2018 ; Bollecker 2021) et de l’évolution de ses modes de gouvernance (Chatelain-Ponroy et al., 2014 ; Mignot-Gérard, 2003), notre recherche interroge l'articulation des mondes des politiques (État, gouvernances d’établissement) et du terrain (organisation, communauté enseignante, etc.), à travers un plan1 visant la transformation pédagogique de l’enseignement supérieur intitulé « Programmes d’Investissement d’Avenir » (PIA), « Nouveau Cursus à l’Université » (NCU). Nous considérons ces programmes comme des instruments d’actions publiques reliant différents systèmes du paysage de l’ESR (politique, académique, terrain, etc.). Notre recherche interroge cette articulation en identifiant trois défis majeurs au coeur de la mise en oeuvre des NCU : (1) éviter une approche programmatique trop rigide ; (2) prévenir une abstraction excessive, génératrice de perte de sens ; (3) s’assurer de dépasser une mise en oeuvre exclusivement technique qui serait inefficace en termes de changement des pratiques et des représentations. Dans une démarche inductive, nous analysons la perception de ces projets par les protagonistes de terrain et les relions à des modèles théoriques de conduite du changement (Colson, 2005 ; Pichault et al., 2021) pour analyser comment les gouvernances stratégiques des établissements peuvent accompagner ces transformations, en passant d’un écosystème de gestion de projet à un écosystème de conduite du changement
Spatiotemporal Analysis of the Lineout in Rugby Union
International audienceIn rugby union, the lineout is a decisive phase of play where players must quickly interpret a complex dynamic scene and coordinate collectively within a very short timeframe. This study aims to analyze spatiotemporal coordinations between thrower and receiver during lineout. Kinematical data from professional players were collected during training sessions using optoelectronic and markerless motion capture systems. Results highlighted duration of the throwing phase, ball capture height, as critical determinants of performance. These findings are further discussed and some perspectives such as the presence of defensive players are suggested
The "Agroecology & Markets" project led by the INRAE sector groups
The agrifood sector encountered increasing market segmentation, with the proliferation of public and private quality claims (i.e. labels), which commit the supply chains to the building of differentiated production, processing and distribution practices. We know very little about the way in which value chains move towards agroecology, particularly for value chains with quality labels other than organic farming. From 2022 to 2023, INRAE’s Scientific Division for Agriculture conducted an exploratory project with 11 sector research groups of INRAE to analyse how differentiated supply chains are committing to agroecology. This project, entitled ‘Agroecology and Market’, was based on desk research and interviews with over 60 actors from the interbranch organisations and different stages in agrifood chains. Step sequence scenario for the calorimetric evaluation of immature amber age
International audienceThe variety of chemical constitutions and the heterogenous fossilization conditions, added to some circumstantial difficulties in applying the biostratigraphical methodologies, are possible obstacles to the dating of amber. Calorimetric analyses are known as alternatives to complement the conventional dating procedures since they show signatures of maturation by crosslinking, however their interpretation is not straightforward. The method proposed in this study consists in performing consecutive standard and modulated differential scanning calorimetry analyses, along with infrared spectroscopy investigations, to interpretate the thermal signatures in terms of chemical transformations. Twelve ambers differing by their age, botanical origin, and state of alteration, are studied.The amber maturation is depicted through a calorimetric step sequence assuming that the thermal signatures related to chemical transformations, are delayed, or even cancelled when the amber age increases, and that the observation of the chemical stabilization is anterior to that of the physical aging recovery. To test the relevance of this simple scenario for dating amber, a characteristic transformation parameter is extracted from the calorimetric signals, which leads to the appearance of a global trend for the amber dating, gathering unaltered and untreated materials, within two geological periods, but with a significant data dispersion
Causal Coordination for Distributed Decision-Making
In decentralized network control, communication plays a critical role by transforming local observations into shared knowledge, enabling agents to coordinate their actions. This paper investigates how communication facilitates cooperation behavior and therefore improves the overall performance in the vector-valued Witsenhausen counterexample, a canonical toy example in distributed decision-making. We consider setups where the encoder, i.e., the first decision-maker (DM) acts causally and the decoder, i.e., the second DM, operates noncausally, 1) without and 2) with access to channel feedback. Using a coordination coding framework, we characterize the achievable power-estimation cost regions in single-letter expressions for both scenarios. The first result is that, when restricted to Gaussian random variables, the cost is identical across all setups featuring at least one causal DM -regardless of the presence of feedback information. Next, building on the characterization of the power-estimation cost region, we propose a hybrid scheme that combines discrete quantization with a continuous Gaussian codebook -the Zero Estimation Cost (ZEC) scheme -which achieves an arbitrarily small estimation cost. This scheme uses coding tools that allow perfect reconstruction of the target symbols, leading to an asymptotic estimation cost equal to zero, while significantly reducing the asymptotic power consumption. Furthermore, when channel feedback is available at the first DM, we propose an analogous scheme that simultaneously achieves zero power and zero estimation cost in the low-noise regime
