Assessment of Protein Oxidation Status and Its Correlation with Antioxidant Potential in Preeclampsia
Objective: The objective of the study is to assess protein oxidation status and its correlation with antioxidant potential in serum during preeclampsia (PE). Materials and Methods: A casecontrol study was performed on 63 pregnant subjects (mean age = 30 tential in serpreeclamptic and 32 age-matched normotensive (control) pregnant women. Serum samples were analyzed for total protein, globulin, albumin, protein carbonyls (PCO), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), and ferric reducing antioxidant potential. Results: Compared to the control pregnant subjects, a compromised serum protein pattern, elevated PCO (P < 0.01), and AOPP (P < 0.02) were observed in PE pregnant women that were correlated significantly with the total antioxidant potential of serum. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that PE pregnancies are susceptible to protein oxidation which may be due to diminished antioxidant potential during PE. The study concludes that oxidative modulation of proteins may be one of the major causative factors in complicating the maternal and fetal conditions during PE
Antibacterial Activity of Ceratopteris thalictroides: An Unexplored Wild Food
Ceratopteris thalictroides is an important pteridophyte having food and medicinal values. It is easily available near the coastal wetland and in lowland paddy fields. The local communities consume them as a leafy vegetable and it is also a food of herbivores. Therefore, an attempt has been made to gather the information and collect the plant from the coastal areas of Konark, Odisha, India. The survey was made in January 2021 and through Passport Data Form, the information was collected. Results revealed that plant species is used as food and to cure many diseases. The phytochemical screening indicated its medicinal potential. It was observed that antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans and Shigella flexneri was sound. The present study highlights an unexplored fern for future food and formulation of new drugs from it to fight against antimicrobial resistance
Solid Lipid Nanoparticles: Formulation, Preparation, and Characterization: A Review
The nano drug delivery system has emerged as a novel therapeutic approach for improved efficacy of the existing drug molecules. Polymeric nanoparticles, lipid based nanoparticles such as solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), nanostructured lipid carriers, lipid drug conjugates, ethosomes, liposomes, and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems are a few of the nano carriers used for drug delivery. Among the lipid based nanoparticles, SLNs are promising in terms of a biocompatible carrier for enhancing the bioavailability, controlled release, and targeted drug action. This review explains the formulation components of SLN, various methods of preparation of SLNs, and the characterization parameters of SLNs. The current successful research on SLN formulation also enlightens. The capability of various drugs for increasing therapeutic efficacy can be achieved through SLN and in the future, new directions in further improvement are expected

Personal care items for women that are used during menstruation, vaginal discharge, and other body functions involving the vulva and vagina are known as feminine hygiene products. There are several products for women during menstruation to keep them feeling comfortable and dry. Choice of products depends on the cost of the product, convenience of use, traditional beliefs, and availability. Menstrual hygiene products such as sanitary napkins or towels, tampons, panty-liners, menstrual cups, menstrual sponges, and period panties are some of the products that may be utilized. Because the vagina naturally flushes away bacteria, feminine hygiene products that are supposed to cleanse may cause allergic reactions and irritation. The review is based on secondary sources available in esteem journals and web pages. The evolution of menstrual products has been a long pathway. Nowadays, these products are more user-friendly, which increases women’s freedom and ability to work. However, it also carried specific health-related issues. Because menstruation has been a taboo subject from ancient past till today’s life, it is critical to begin talking about periods and the products used by women. Knowing more about the materials used products is a step toward achieving both menstrual hygiene’s, and it will also help avoid health-related issues and maintain environmental sustainability
Nootropic Activity of Rhodiola rosea Root
Nootropic are mediator that enhance the cognitive skills of brain function, Alzheimer’s disease, primarily affects the elderly population and is estimated to account for 50–60% of dementia cases in persons over 65 years of age. The present study aimed to evaluate the Nootropic activity of Rhodiola rosea. Methanoilc extract of R. rosea was used to estimate elevated plus maze (EPM) model in mice, the effect of extract on learning and memory in number of entries open and closed arms using the EPM in mice at a dose of 300 and 500 mg/kg. R. rosea extract in EPM showed transfer latency entries, which is indicative of cognition improvement. The results suggested that the treatment of methanolic extract of R. rosea enhances memory in EPM experimental models
An Overview of COVID-19 PAN India
COVID -19 is a highly contagious viral disease that affects human populations very differently ranging from mild-to-moderate flu-like symptoms to serious complications involving mainly the respiratory system. The causative pathogen is a new virus Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2. The viral disease gripped millions of lives in a short span, due to which World Health Organization announced it as pandemic on March 11, 2020. Various measures were adopted at local and global levels to stop immediate escalation of the viral infection. A complete lockdown was imposed, movement was restricted, industries were shut down, vehicles were prohibited to ply; only the production and supply of essential services were permitted. On one hand, the fatal disease posed a serious threat to life and quarantine caused loneliness but on the other hand, such unprecedented crisis had a positive impact on overall healing of nature. The economy and health infrastructure of various countries collapsed in fighting the pandemic. To revive, switching over to green economy may be the most viable option and it will also be a climate-conscious approach. Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Regarding Fall Prevention Strategies among Spine and Hip Post-operative Elderly Individuals: A Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Falls and their consequences are always considered significant public health issue. Fall is considered a major health concern that makes older people more prone to injury and loss of life. Fractures of the hip, trunk, wrist, and neck are among the most common injuries caused by falls. Falls can cause disability, activity restriction, and fear of falling, all of which can affect quality of life and independence. As a result, inquiring about falls and assessing knowledge about falls, near falls, and fear of falling can assist us in identifying and mitigating any modifiable hazards before the next fall and also can help us shorten the rehabilitation period in the immediate post-operative period. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to determine the status of knowledge, attitude, and practices of falls prevention strategy among post-operative hip and spine elderly individuals in Karad. Materials and Methods: From July to December 2020, a cross-sectional investigation was conducted in a rural tertiary care hospital in Karad. In this study, a total of 100 individuals participated who had undergone spinal (n = 33) and hip (n = 67) surgeries. A consent form was filled out by the participants and completed a three-part questionnaire that asked questions about knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding fall prevention strategies. Following that, the data were examined using acceptable statistical procedures, and Excel was used to create various graphs with supplied frequencies and percentages generated using the software. The grade was determined by calculating the score into good/average/poor/very poor. Results: The present study shows that elderly people have poor awareness of how prone they are to falls postoperatively. At the same time, 17% of participants show very poor knowledge regarding fall prevention strategies. When assessed about the prevalence of attitudes and practices of the fall prevention program, 62% of participants exhibited a poor score. Conclusion: Based on the responses, there is a scarcity of knowledge regarding fall prevention strategies among the post-operative elderly individuals in Karad. The awareness regarding the knowledge and practice will thereby reduce the number of yearly falls both postoperatively and the silent falls. This practice would ensure a significant reduction in the post-fall complications and morbidity due to falls, thus leading to an improved quality of health care in the geriatric age group
Extraction, Purification, and Characterization of Lepidium sativum Mucilage for Product Development
Since ancient times, various human civilization are using herbal medications for different ailments. Herbal medications are being extensively researched and promoted in various health care programs in India. Scientist from across the globe is attracted toward the potential medicinal values of different herbs and is working to blend herbal medications with novel formulation technologies to overcome the difficulty associated in developing formulations based on herbal medications. Cress or garden cress (Lepidium sativum) has been widely reported for its numerous pharmacological activities. The cress seeds possess numbers of nutraceutical values from rubefacient, galactogogue, and laxative to diuretic properties. In the present study, mucilage is extracted from the seeds of L. sativum by different methods, in which the treatment of dried of mucilage powder with ethanol yields highest amount of mucilage. Further, purification was done exploiting the method of Munir et al. with slight modification. Chemical characterization shows presence of carbohydrate, mucilage, and polysaccharide. Proximate analysis also confirms the presence of crude fats (2.37%), proteins (3.07%), fibers (4.71%), and carbohydrates (77.72%) and total calculated energy was 287.62 kcal/gm. Physiochemical analysis shows 4.8% loss of moisture on drying; particle size of grinded mucilage 500–1000 μm; 7.6 pH of 0.5% solution of L. sativum mucilage; 227–229°C charring temperature; good swelling and flow properties; and compressibility index 0.26 and 26.0% compressibility. Fourier-transform infrared analysis of L. sativum mucilage shows presence of O-H, C-H and C=O functional group. The extraction and characterization of L. sativum mucilage could be further used for possible product development
