    Magical Phenomena in Reality in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

    This research examines the elements of magical realism, using descriptive qualitative method, a literary genre depicting magic in the modern world, in Rick Riordan\u27s "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief." Applying Wendy B. Faris\u27 theory of magical realism\u27s five characteristics: the irreducible element, the phenomenal world, unsettling doubts, merging realism, and disruption of time/space/identity. The research identifies these aspects in the novel. The analysis reveals the novel contains irreducible magical elements like worlds, characters, and objects, exemplified by Percy\u27s encounter with the shape-shifting monster Erinyes disguised as his teacher. The phenomenal world encompasses magical places and beings. Unsettling doubts arise from Percy directly addressing the reader about his experiences. Merging realism intertwines the magical realm rooted in myths with the tangible world, as monsters and gods frequently intermingle with reality. Disruption of time manifests when Percy experiences slowed time at the Lotus Hotel during his quest. The study concludes that "The Lightning Thief" exhibits all five characteristics of magical realism by integrating mythological magic into the contemporary setting. Irreducible magical elements, a phenomenal, magical world, narrator-induced unsettling doubts, the merging of mythical and real realms, and space-time distortions collectively categorize the novel as an exemplar of magical realist fiction

    Pelatihan Pencegahan Bahaya Rabies

    The majority of the people of Benteng Tellue Village (Amali District) keep dogs as pets in their homes and it is a habit to carry them when farming in the fields and also use them to hunt wild pigs. One thing that is of common concern is that the public still lacks information about rabies and the prevention efforts that can be taken. Therefore, rabies training activities are an appropriate means to directly meet and conduct questions and answers with the community in Benteng Tellue Village, Amali District, Bone Regency. The community is expected to share and disseminate information to other family members. The results of the activity showed an increase in public knowledge after education was carried out regarding preventing rabies in dogs. Increasing public understanding about rabies is very necessary through training methods.  Mayoritas masyarakat Desa Benteng Tellue (Kec. Amali) memelihara anjing sebagai hewan peliharaan di rumahnya masing-masing dan menjadi kebiasaan dibawa saat bertani di ladang dan sekaligus digunakan untuk berburu babi hutang. Salah satu hal yang menjadi perhatian bersama yaitu masyarakat masih kurang informasi akan penyakit rabies dan upaya pencegahan yang dapat dilakukan. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan Pelatihan penyakit rabies menjadi salah satu sarana yang tepat untuk langsung bertemu dan melakukan tanya jawab dengan masyarakat yang ada di Desa Benteng Tellue, KecamatanAmali, Kabupaten Bone. Masyarakat diharapkan dapat membagikan dan menyebarluaskan informasi kepada anggota keluarga lainnya. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat setelah dilakukan edukasi mengenai pencegahan rabies pada anjing.     Stigma Terkait Perselingkuhan dalam Perspektif Pelakor

    In recent years, there are two terms related to infidelity, namely pelakor, a label that is given to women who snatch someone’s husband and pebinor, a label that is given to men who snatch someone’s wife. However, the term pelakor is more popular than pebinor, either in real life or in social media. This is also the case for stigma. Stigma to pelakor is more popular than stigma associated with pebinor. While the existing literatures on infidelity focus more on stigma toward pelakor on social media, little [if any], study deals with stigma towards pelakor from the perspective of pelakor themselves. This article fills this gap. This qualitative research was conducted in Makassar. There are five pelakor who get involved in this study. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interview and observation through social media. The research shows that the reasons why women snatch someone’s husband are economic needs, frequency of encounters, and rekindled love (CLBK). The process of becoming a pelakor often begins through social media, workplace interactions, or introduced by friends. In the perspective of pelakor, the stigma against them includes labels such as women without self-respect, cheap women, love in love, and immoral women, reflecting society\u27s negative perceptions towards pelakor. However, pelakor themselves respond to this stigma in various ways, ranging from feeling of shame and desiring for self-improvement, to behave indifference toward social judgment, reflecting their personal autonomy over their life choices. It is argued in this article that while pelakor realised that they are stigmatised and ruin someone’s marriage, no one immediately ends their relationship. Pelakor even “enjoy” the affair and don’t care what people say about it

    The proliferation of online loan (pinjol) users among students is not something new, in fact many studies have examined the use of online loans, which focus more on the ease of accessing online loans. This article focuses on the reasons and impacts of using online loans among university students. Using qualitative approach, this study was carried out in Makassar City between September and December 2023. There were ten informants who participated in this study, consisting of seven women and three men, with an age range of 20 to 21 years. In this study, in-depth interviews and observation methods were used as data collection techniques. The results of this research show students have many needs, but at the same time have limited funds whike they depend on their parents. So they will look for various alternatives to have money and to meet their needs, one way is to borrow money. In this modern era, technology and financial sector are innovating to create new services, namely online loans. Online loans help the general public, including students, who need fast funds with easy requirements and quick process. The reasons why students use loans are divided into two, namely: to meet urgent needs (such as buying books, paying boarding houses, and paying off debts); and to meet their entertainment needs (such as online shopping and gambling capital). If online loans are used for urgent needs, then borrowing is a "gift". However, if online loans are used for entertainment needs, then online loans are a "disaster". Addiction to such loan and being entangled in an endless cycle of debt to the point of using other loans to pay off debt are the impacts of uncontrolled use of online loans

    Analisis Kemampuan Literasi Matematis Siswa Ditinjau Dari Motivasi Belajar Matematika Pada Pokok Bahasan Aritmatika Sosial

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kemampuan literasi matematis siswa ditinjau dari motivasi belajar matematika pada pokok bahasan aritmatika sosial. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah 5 orang siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Darma yang terdiri dari 1 siswa dengan kategori motivasi sangat tinggi, 3 siswa dengan motivasi tinggi, dan 1 siswa dengan motivasi sedang. Teknik pengambilan subjek menggunakan purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui instrumen tes, angket, dan wawancara. Aspek indikator literasi matematis yang digunakan yaitu diantaranya: 1) Merumuskan, 2) Menerapkan, dan 3) Menafsirkan. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa yang memiliki motivasi sangat tinggi memiliki kemampuan literasi matematis rendah dan memenuhi dua aspek kemampuan literasi matematis yaitu formulate dan employ. Siswa yang memiliki motivasi tinggi memiliki kemampuan literasi matematis kategori sangat tinggi dan sedang, serta memenuhi tiga aspek kemampuan literasi matematis, meliputi formulate, employ, dan interpret.     The Correlation between The Vocabulary Mastery and Writing Skills of the Ninth Graders of SMP Negeri 1 Bandongan

    Four language skills are needed to master a language: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Two aspects are needed to communicate in written form: vocabulary mastery and writing skills. Someone needs writing skills and extensive vocabulary knowledge to create good writing. Even so, it was found that there were still students who had difficulties in translating words from Indonesian to English and vice versa, challenges in using the right words, and problems in constructing sentences in English. In addition, some students still have limited knowledge of vocabulary. This study focused on finding the students’ vocabulary mastery level, writing skills level, and the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skills. A person will master four language skills, including writing, easier if they have a broad vocabulary. The more comprehensive the vocabulary knowledge, the more vocabulary will be used in writing; hence, the vocabulary used in the writing will be more varied. Correlation research was used in this study. The study population was 9th graders of SMP Negeri 1 Bandongan, and the sample was 29 students from class 9B at SMP Negeri 1 Bandongan. The study instruments were a vocabulary test and a writing test. The instruments were derived from previous research. The data taken was analyzed using a correlation test with SPSS. The results of this study show no significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skills with the Sig value. (2-tailed) 0.145 > 0.05. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient is 0.278. Hence, the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skills was low. This study suggests that teachers and students focus on learning and mastering vocabulary and other aspects that influence writing ability and the writing itself

    Exploring Lecturers\u27 Insights on Metacognitive Scaffolding in Writing Instruction

    This study investigates lecturers\u27 perceptions of metacognitive scaffolding in writing instruction at Universitas Halu Oleo. Utilizing a qualitative exploratory case study design, data were collected through interviews with three lecturers from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Thematic analysis revealed that while lecturers acknowledge the benefits of metacognitive scaffolding for developing independent writers, they encounter obstacles such as large class sizes, time constraints, and varied student engagement. The study aimed to provide insights for improving writing instruction practices and policy development. Lecturers discovered that metacognitive scaffolding is essential for helping students develop writing performances and engagement. The study’s findings align with literature emphasizing the importance of metacognitive strategies and structured feedback in writing instruction. The integration of technology and the positive impact of lecturers\u27 personalities further support the effectiveness of metacognitive scaffolding in enhancing students\u27 writing performance and engagement. Lecturers perceive the implementation of metacognitive scaffolding in writing courses as crucial for improving students\u27 writing performance and fostering independent, reflective learning, although they acknowledge challenges such as students\u27 difficulties with coherence and vocabulary and the distractions of technology

    PENGEMBANGAN LEMBAR KERJA PESERTA DIDIK (LKPD) BERBASIS DISCOVERY LEARNING PADA MATERI PLANTAE KELAS X IPA 1 SMA NASIONAL MAKASSAR

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses, kualitas, dan kelayakan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) yang telah dikembangkan sesuai dengan standar penilaian menurut para ahli untuk diimplementasikan di kelas X IPA 1 SMA Nasional Makassar. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian dan Pengembangan (R&D). Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model ADDIE (Analisis, Desain, Development, Implementasi dan Evaluasi). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan kuesioner. Observasi di kelas X IPA I dilakukan dengan wawancara dan melihat langsung situasi pembelajaran di SMA Nasional Makassar. Kuesioner diberikan kepada validator, guru, dan peserta didik untuk menilai kualitas dan kelayakan LKPD. Sampel yang digunakan adalah peserta didik kelas X IPA 1 yang berjumlah 30 orang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh nilai persentase validasi ahli media sebesar 100% dengan kategori sangat layak, validasi ahli materi sebesar 82,5% dengan kategori layak, sehingga LKPD dapat dilanjutkan ke tahap implementasi. Respon guru yang didapatkan sebesar 97,2% sehingga LKPD layak untuk diimplementasikan. Pada tahap evaluasi, diperoleh respon peserta didik pada uji coba terbatas sebesar 80,5% dan pada uji coba klasikal sebesar 84%, sehingga LKPD dinyatakan valid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas LKPD yang dikembangkan sangat baik dan layak untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas X IPA 1 SMA Nasional Makassar

    The purpose of this study was to find out how to use Earring Leaf Flour for basal diet for intake and digestibility of Calcium and Phosphor on pigs . The materials used were 12 male pigs of Landrace breeding which received 1-2 months with initial body weight of 30-50 kg, an average of 37.92 kg and (KV = 13,66%). This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 4 preparations and 3 replications. The treatment tried was R0: 100% basal diet without leaves Earring (control), R1: 98% basal diet + 2% leaf Earring, R2: 96% basal diet + 4% leaf Earring, R3: basal diet 94% + 6% leaf earrings. The variables consumed were intake and digestibility of Calcium and Phosphor. The results showed that the study was not significant (P> 0.05) for intake and digestibility of calcium, and phosphor. Conclusion is the use of leaves Earrings up to 6% give a relatively similar response to the intake and digestibility of Calcium and Phosphor

    PEMODELAN DEBIT SUNGAI MENGGUNAKAN SOIL AND WATER ASSESSMENT TOOL DI SUBDAS MAMASA

    ABSTRACT Issues related to watershed have received primary attention in the past few decades. The hydrological conditions of the watershed area are considered crucial as a source of life. In efforts to achieve sustainable watershed management, understanding the complex hydrological dynamics is very important. The objective of this research is to simulate river discharge using the Soil and Water Assessment Tools (SWAT) model. This study was conducted in the Mamasa Sub-watershed area. The results show that the river discharge in the Mamasa Sub-watershed has increased as it approaches the outlet (downstream) through the accumulation of discharge in larger order rivers. The Mamasa Sub-watershed also experiences a trend of increasing average annual discharge at a rate of 0.74 m3/s per year. Improvement in the discharge simulation results was achieved through a calibration process using 11 parameters. The calibration results indicate that the calibrated discharge has a higher R2 value compared to the initial simulation discharge, showing that the model calibration successfully improved the quality of the expected discharge results to reach 79.50 percent. However, the calibration results still have a low R2 value, influenced by the selection of appropriate parameters and accurate observational data. Keywords: Modeling, River discharge, SWAT, Watershe
