The multinational enterprises (MNEs) have a common intention to maximizing their capital investment to gain more profit. In doing so, sometimes they behave irresponsibly towards the host countries, even do not hesitate to bypass the laws of the country. In relation to performance requirements for foreign investors, the host country like Bangladesh may have specific laws or policies; but due to the desire to attract more FDI and pressure from the MNEs, the government may be reluctant to impose various requirements or refrain from enforcing them. This paper will discuss the negative impact of FDI in Bangladesh due to lack of performance requirement provisions> It will also highlight the significance of enacting such provisions into the FDI laws. This paper will address one major question: why the foreign investors should be required to fulfill performance requirements during their entry in Bangladesh? In this study, six respondents were interviewed for expert opinions. The findings of this study show that the existing laws and policies of Bangladesh significantly lack performance requirement provisions. In this relation, recommendations have been provided for consideration by the government

Cross-sectional survey research is the primary research design for the study. A printed survey instrument is used to collect data from 189 working MBA students in Chattogram city using a purposive sampling technique. The respondents provide information about EI, TL, CR, and JP of their managers. We employed descriptive statistics, bivariate correlation, and regression analysis to analyze the obtained data. The findings of the study show that there is a positive correlation between EI and TL (r = 0.68). Again, a firm affinity is observed between EI and CR (r = 0.62). Furthermore, a strong relationship is found between EI and JP (r = 0.73). This study imparts the message to the organizations that they should focus on upgrading the EI competencies of the managers who intend to be transformational leaders and willing to show their credibility in creativity and superiority in job performance.  The purposive sampling technique was adopted which is one of the major limitations of this study

    Get PDF
The main objective of this study is to explore the challenges of engaging citizens in urban disaster management (UDM) in the urban fire, waterlogging, and pandemic like COVID 19. A qualitative research approach, mainly in-depth interview method was applied to gain insights from different government officials of civil defense, police force, and ward councilors of Dhaka and Chattogram City Corporations, who were experienced in working at the field level UDM. The study tried to investigate the challenges faced by the officials during disaster rescue operations with special reference to the role of urban citizens. The findings of the study capture, in detail, the challenges faced by different personnel involved in UDM operations. While citizen engagement is expected to be a positive notion, in most cases, citizens themselves become the main obstacle of disaster management, due to their ignorance, negligence, and lack of patience in the given disastrous and pandemic situation, and thus, hinders UDM operations and crisis management. The lessons learned from contemporary urban disasters like fire and the COVID 19 pandemic are recorded elaborately. Based on that, different recommendations are made to ensure the active engagement of citizens to facilitate UDM activities in an orderly manner.  &nbsp

Accessibility to, and Equal Opportunity for Education for Poverty Reduction in Nigeria : The National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) Perspective

    Get PDF
Prior literature has revealed that access to education and equal opportunity for education, are some of the major steps taken by the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) program to tackle the problem of poverty through the education sector in Nigeria. However, most studies on NEEDS and education have failed to address the effects of education under the program on poverty reduction. As NEEDS is primarily set to achieve poverty reduction in Nigeria, this study, therefore, examines the relationship between the accessibility and equal opportunity for education under the NEEDS and perceived poverty reduction through investigating the educational impacts of NEEDS on poverty reduction.  The paper suggests that for educational policies to serve in reducing poverty, such policies must be implemented in the context of poverty reduction; must involve seasoned teachers and administrators; and must conduct teacher-capability verification to flush out and retrain unqualified teachers. Given adequate infrastructure and funding, and if well adopted, the measures, if employed would bring about self-reliance, self-employment, income generation, and poverty reduction
