Bringing Out-Of-District Special Education Students Back to Their Home District
Students with disabilities, when placed in out-of-district separate special education placements, are removed from their typically developing peers in their local public school. Positive peer interaction is important for students, not only for academic success, but also in helping students to create their identity (King, et al., 2017). This is particularly important for students diagnosed with autism. The purpose of this project was the formulation of evidence-based, practical recommendations to create a high-quality special education program for high school students with autism so that they can return to their local public school. This dissertation used qualitative methods to collect data. The focus of the research was on understanding the individual needs of the selected students, as identified in their individualized education plans (IEPs). Through interviews with administrators (such as superintendents, directors of special education, and principals) evidence-based practices were identified that can be implemented in in-district special educational programs that can support high school students with autism to return to their local public school and be educated appropriately alongside their peers
Managing Change from Disruptive Innovation: United States Property & Casualty Insurance
The aim of this study was to explore Property & Casualty insurance executives\u27 views of innovative and disruptive technologies\u27 influence on organizational culture, leadership, and change management as the Property and Casualty business environment is rapidly evolving and changing. The insurance industry faces competition from new entrants and long-time competitors. The Covid-19 pandemic has been a significant disruptor of the traditional business models. Customers have shifted their expectations to online and mobile options to interact and conduct business. This study will use a qualitative phenomenological descriptive approach to address the research question and five sub-research questions. The study\u27s conceptual framework incorporated disruptive innovation and change management theories to guide the study. The study population consisted of fifteen leaders at a director or officer level, and a criterion sampling strategy was utilized in finding the study\u27s participants. The participants were interviewed via Zoom technology and asked open-ended questions to provide in-depth responses regarding their views of innovative and disruptive technologies\u27 influence on organizational culture, leadership, and change management. The interviews were transcribed verbatim, coded, and analyzed for major themes. NVivo software was used for the coding analysis of the collected data. The research could lead to a broader review of disruptive innovations\u27 impact on the internal and external environments that affect the US P&C industry\u27s business models, drive change management, and foster and develop innovative cultures
Transformational Leadership Traits and Job Satisfaction Among U.S. Technology Professionals: An Exploratory Qualitative Examination
Leadership styles and traits are well-researched across multiple industries and countries. Still, limited studies exist on the impact of these behaviors on job satisfaction and, ultimately, on organizational culture for technology professionals. Leaders within technical disciplines have generally been promoted through the ranks, possessing vast specialized knowledge but seemingly lacking transformational leadership skills and awareness of organizational culture. Job satisfaction is a culmination of leadership skills and external influences. The critical drivers for creating and sustaining cultural norms are behaviors, systems, and symbols. How these drivers are developed and passed down to employees can impact job satisfaction, engagement, and organizational commitment. This qualitative study will explore the divergence between what is currently understood and what is still largely unknown about transformational leadership traits, organizational culture, and job satisfaction among technology professionals in the United States. The research question to be answered is: RQ: What transformational leadership traits enhance U.S. technology professionals\u27 job satisfaction? In addition, interviews with current technology professionals will allow participants to share their occupational experiences and opinions on leadership and organizational culture. This research will fill a gap in the literature regarding leadership behaviors, organizational culture experiences, and job satisfaction among U.S. technology professionals
Incidence, Method, and Location of Suicides from Fatal Self-Inflicted Injuries Sustained in US Hospitals, Medical Facilities, and Campuses
This quantitative research study investigated suicides from fatal self-inflicted injuries sustained in US hospitals, medical facilities, and their campuses. The purpose was to understand these deaths\u27 frequency, method, and location to determine if they have changed over time. Regulators need to understand the frequency, method, and location of all healthcare suicides to align regulations with current risk patterns and save lives. This exploratory, longitudinal study analyzed secondary data on 1,021 decedents in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Violent Death Reporting System, in yearly panels from 2015 to 2020. Chi-Square Goodness of Fit tests were run to determine if the percentages of suicide methods and locations frequency changes over time. The findings of this study showed that the methods and locations of fatal self-inflicted injuries have not changed from 2015 to 2020, inferring two significant conclusions. First, suicides have occurred on hospital grounds, parking lots, and parking garages consistently for six years, but have only recently been documented. Second, prevention regulations have failed to impact suicide rates in the healthcare locations they are directed towards. This research found that suicide prevention regulations require realignment and deficiencies with their implementation need addressed. Addressing these deficiencies can save patients’ lives, and reduce suicide exposure harm to family, friends, employees, and communities

Free Via Library (FVL) Etextbooks: Enhancing Affordable Learning by Involving an Academic Library in the Textbook Selection Process
This paper discusses an etextbook initiative which an academic library adopted to support affordable learning. After providing an overview of how textbook costs affect university students, the paper details the library’s etextbook initiative and how the library works both proactively (before/during the course design phase) and reactively (after textbook selection) to identify library etextbooks which courses can use in place of student purchased textbooks. The paper then reviews data demonstrating the use of library etextbooks in courses and the cost savings to students resulting from replacing student purchased textbooks with library etextbooks. The paper concludes by discussing problems and issues the library has encountered using library ebooks as textbooks
Examining Statistical Differences Between Constructed Response and Computer-Scorable Questions on Accelerated Math Placement Assessments
The purpose of this study was to determine if there were significant statistical differences between scores on constructed response and computer-scorable questions on an accelerated middle school math placement test in a large urban school district in Ohio, and to ensure that all students have an opportunity to take the test. Five questions on a placement test given in the spring of 2018 were changed into questions that could be graded by computer for students taking the test in the spring of 2021. The data was examined for each test first using whole group data. Significant statistical differences were found in each of the five questions, with four questions having a higher mean as a constructed response item and one having a higher mean as a computer-scorable item. No significant differences were found when scores were analyzed by gender, and only one question had statistical difference when analyzed by ethnicity. Correlation was calculated between each student’s placement test score and their Math 8 state test score. Similar correlations were found between the two assessments during both testing years. To ensure that all students are provided an opportunity to succeed in an accelerated math pathway, all must need to be given access to helpful pre-testing materials and encouraged to take the placement test. Recommendations were made to continue using computer-scorable questions to provide an opportunity to identify as many qualified candidates for acceleration as possible
