    What Are Radiologists\u27 Perceptions in Regard to Image Quality and Increased Utilization Due to Vendor Provided Deep Learning Signal to Noise Ratio and Deep Learning Reconstruction on 3.0T Magnetic Resonance Imagine?

    Deep learning (DL) algorithms are prevalent in radiology as workflow assistants and as modality enhancements. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), diagnostic imaging (DI), ultrasound (US), and positron emission tomography (PET) are modalities that benefit from the DL algorithms and shorter exam times or greater image accuracy. Faster scan time is achieved by the signal to noise ratio (SNR). The distinction is that the technology can enhance images beyond the original resolution from the modality or shorten exam time and rebuild the image quality through SNR algorithms back to approximately the original standard of care (SOC) image. While artificial intelligence signal to noise ratio algorithms (AI-SNR) can enhance an image to a greater accuracy, shorter exam times are a measurable component of a return on investment (ROI) in calculating modality utilization. The algorithm-derived images may have visual variations that are not found on normally acquired original images. The research focused on DL-SNR images on a three-tesla magnetic resonance imaging (3.0T MRI) unit, a high resolution MRI deployment in the industry. The primary research question for this research study is: What are radiologists’ perceptions in regard to image quality and increased utilization due to vendor provided DL-SNR on 3.0T MRI? This will be an exploratory qualitative research study using detailed interviews with fellowship-trained radiologists that are using AI-SNR in 3.0T MRI and shortened exam time protocols. Fifteen interviews were conducted. The interview transcriptions were coded using ATLAS.ti to identify common themes and sub-themes in the radiologists’ perceptions of DL-SNR imaging. This paper assumes the reader has an adequate understanding of deep learning and radiology processes. The interviews included discussions on key elements on image quality, workflow, reimbursement, legal concerns, and radiologist workload.     An Examination of the Benefits of Mentoring for African American Female Accountants

    This explanatory sequential mixed methodology study examined the impact of mentorship on African American female accountants’ advancement to executive leadership positions. The target sample included mentored African American female accountants in the Accountants of Color (AOC) Facebook group, Alliance of Black Women Accountants (ABWA), Black Women in Accounting and Finance Network LinkedIn group, and the Accountancy Board of Ohio. The goal of the mixed methods study was to understand the mentoring relationships, perceived mentorship benefits, and social networks experienced by African American female accountants. Due to the small sample size for the quantitative portion of the explanatory sequential mixed methods approach, multiple regression analysis was not performed. Phenomenological interviews were conducted for the qualitative approach to gain insight into participants’ lived experiences regarding the benefits of connecting with a mentor, which contributed to the findings. Aside from the benefits of connecting with a mentor, the study’s findings identified obstacles experienced by African American female accountants as they climbed the career ladder. The study’s findings highlight a need to enhance the recruitment and retention of African American female accountants, diversity at the executive-level in leadership positions, and organizational strategies within accounting firms to help shatter glass and concrete ceilings in order for African American female accountants to obtain executive leadership positions. The study’s research contributions highlight the benefits of mentoring relationships, networking, and the promotion of diversity initiatives within the organizational culture of accounting firms. The study enriched existing research as it focused exclusively on the lived experiences of African American female accountants to examine if mentorship influenced career advancement

    The Effects of Price Transparency Legislation on Hospital Pricing

    Improved price transparency in the pricing for health care services has been found to be a major contributor to lowering costs and promoting efficiency in the U.S. health care system. This research study explores the effects of the 2019 federal hospital transparency rule on outpatient hospital prices using a non-experimental comparative quantitative study design. Using data from the Healthcare Cost Reporting Information System (HCRIS), the data analysis for this study explored pricing differences before and after the implementation of the 2019 federal price transparency legislation for hospitals in all 50 states. Specifically, the study examines whether there was a difference in prices between hospitals in low and high competition areas as well as the price transparency impact for states with All-Payer Claims Databases (APCD) legislation. The results show a significant price decrease between states that have prior APCD legislation when compared to states without prior APCD legislation and no significant differences between low and high competition areas. This research study provides the framework for additional research in the field to further investigate outpatient hospital price differences in various implementation phases of the federal hospital price transparency legislation. Hospital price transparency improvement is offered as an optimal solution to reduce wasteful health care spending and costs
