    Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale Impact In A Suburban Diverse Community

    This investigation aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale tool in the Emergency Department. The setting of the study focused on a non-profit community-based hospital that serves the Hispanic-dominant population in a Suburban area. The utilization of secondary data from 2022 and 2023 was analyzed statistically to evaluate the success of the implementation of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale tool pre- and post-implementation. The study focused on the impact on risk level assignment, arrival to provider assessment times, and discharge disposition, pre-and post-implementation. The analysis aims to bring awareness and aid in necessary changes to the delivery of care for patients who seek care with suicide ideation or suicide attempts. The statistical analysis utilized a Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test, and two sample t-tests to determine the statistical impact pre- and post-implementation of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale tool. The results showed no statistically significant differences between pre- and post-implementations. Though the outcome shared no statistically significant difference, clinical significance was observed as minor shifts in data were noted. Future studies suggest integrating theoretical themes into the patient\u27s plan of care to accommodate the population being served. The analysis and findings of this study identified vital prospective areas of focus that brought awareness to the psychiatric population, enhance care plans for high-risk patients, and expand on post-discharge education

    The Lived-Experience of Faculty During Organizational and Instructional Change: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study

    This phenomenological research study explores the lived experiences of full-time faculty experiencing both organizational and instructional changes within their institution. Higher education organizations are facing increased challenges to sustainability, forcing them to make structural changes within the organization. When organizations adopt new instructional designs and models, it is imperative to understand the faculty experience to improve the institution\u27s overall success. This qualitative study employed a hermeneutic phenomenological approach, conducting in-depth interviews with twenty faculty members from three merging institutions who experienced organizational restructuring and instructional changes. Interviews with participants were analyzed using the hermeneutic circle, showing the importance of administrative choices during change, the role of organizational culture when merging cultures, and faculty need for support when adopting new instructional modalities. This study illuminates the lived experiences of faculty amidst institutional transformations, offering valuable insights for higher education leaders to support faculty and navigate change processes effectively

    Cultivating the Next Generation: Qualitative Study Exploring the Influence of African American Male Teachers on the Career Aspirations of African American Male Students in K-12 Education

    The underrepresentation of African American male teachers in K-12 education significantly impacts educational equity and student success, especially in urban areas where these students often lack relatable role models. Historically, African American males were a significant presence in teaching, but their numbers have drastically declined since the Brown v. Board of Education decision. This shortage limits cultural representation and mentorship opportunities essential for the academic and personal development of African American male students. This qualitative phenomenological study, conducted within the Columbus City Schools system, explores the motivations of African American male teachers and their impact on students. Using Social Learning Theory and Social Identity Theory, the research involved in-depth interviews revealing key themes such as the influence of positive role models, the critical need for cultural representation, and the desire to mentor and advocate for young African American males. The study highlights the importance of targeted recruitment, supportive environments, and professional development programs to attract and retain these educators. Increasing the presence of African American male teachers enhances student engagement, achievement and fosters a more inclusive and equitable educational environment
