Identification and quantification of archaeological projects arising from aggregate extraction in Hampshire, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex
No full textThe project aimed to identify and quantify past archaeological investigations arising from hard and soft aggregates extraction in the counties of Hampshire, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex, which currently have incomplete or inappropriately low levels of dissemination. The study provides a basis for a future strategy to improve and widen public dissemination of the results of such investigations, including the deposition of data into a publicly accessible research archive. The study was conducted through the comprehensive review of all relevant archaeological journals, newsletters and other publications, along with a trawl of archaeological datasets including the Museum of London Archaeology database of past investigations and each county's Historic Environment Record (including Chichester Historic Environment Record). A total of 152 projects have been identified with 68 in Hampshire, 48 in Surrey, 3 in East Sussex and 33 in West Sussex. The project has revealed that Surrey currently has the highest level of fully disseminated projects (52.1%), followed by Hampshire at %0%, East Sussex at 33.3% and West Sussex at 21.9%. The report has identified however that five of these projects (two in Hampshire, two in Surrey and one in West Sussex are known to be actively progressing towards the publication of their results
