Factors influencing consumers’ decision to purchase green products: the case of canned water as a green alternative to single-use plastic bottled water
This study investigates the factors that influence consumers’
decision to purchase canned water as a green alternative to single-use plastic
bottled water. The study relies on the theory of planned behaviour (TPB),
theory of consumption values (TCV), and theory of means-end chain (MEC) to
theorise that six factors (environmental concerns, subjective norms, social
value, price, taste, and convenience) may influence the decision. Multinomial
logistic regression (MLR) was used to assess the predictor variables’ effect on
consumers’ decisions. According to data collected from 493 respondents, social
value, subjective norms, and price influenced the decision to purchase canned
water, while the effects of environmental concerns, taste, and convenience were
non-influential. The study’s findings offer further empirical support for the
effect of social value and subjective norms on the acceptance of green products.
Additionally, the results suggest that environmental concerns’ influence may
diminish in the presence of other factors. The study provides canned water
manufacturers with some insights into consumer acceptance and what can be
done to improve and increase consumers’ acceptance
The Influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Practices on US Firms’ Performance: Evidence from the Coronavirus Crisis
This study explores the influence of total and individual ESG practices and the coro
navirus crisis on US firm performance (FP). A large and recent sample of 406 US
f
irms that adopted ESG issues during 2016–2020 was used. This study uses the gen
eralized least-squares (GLS) regression estimator, the dynamic analysis technique,
and robustness tests. The results indicate that firms with heightened ESG practices
have better performance measures. In most cases, the results suggest that firms with
heightened environmental, social, and governance performances have better perfor
mance measures. The results suggest that the coronavirus crisis negatively affected
FP measures. In addition, the analyses of the differences suggest significant distinc
tions in FP due to the coronavirus crisis. This study’s findings have important impli
cations for stakeholders. Managers could benefit from the results of this examination
by recognizing the status of ESG practices and FP before and during the coronavirus
crisis and identifying the linkage between the fulfillment of ESG responsibilities and
FP. This study provides noteworthy practical implications that could enable man
agers to develop strategies and policies for adopting and enhancing ESG practices
to achieve the best performance. Furthermore, the results could influence trading
processes as investors and financiers pursue attractive financial returns from invest
ments in businesses concerned with ESG issues
Nexus between Big Data and Green Intellectual Capital on Project Sustainability
Green Intellectual Capital (GIC) refers to environmentally friendly management styles for gaining a competitive
advantage. In this study, the impact of GIC was assessed on the project’s sustainability while big data was taken as a
moderating variable. Data was collected from the manufacturing industry and analyzed using structural equation modeling.
Results indicated that GIC has a significant effect on project sustainability. In the same way, big data moderates the
relationship between the GIC and project sustainability, except for the relational capital construct. The finding of the study
recommends that GIC, with the support of big data, can be helpful for the completion of sustainable manufacturing projects.
Moreover, the study recommends that elements of the relational capital construct need to be explored in-depth to assess
their role in project sustainability. In the same way, the GIC may also need to be tested and applied in other industries and
countries for the delivery of value to customers
Advocacy as a Human Rights Enabler for Parents in the Child Protection System
Parents and guardians in child protection systems are in unequal
power relationships with child protection practitioners. This
relationship is experienced as exclusionary or even oppressive
by many parents and guardians. For families and communities
in the child protection system who experience intersectional
discrimination and disadvantage, such as people with intellectual
disabilities and First Nations people, this unequal relationship and
subsequent potential exclusion and oppression can be even more
profound. A growing body of literature indicates that advocacy
can assist in addressing unequal relationships in other contexts,
such as involuntary mental health. This paper explores the role of
representational advocacy in supporting parents in child
protection settings through a case study of an advocacy service
in Victoria, Australia. Using a human rights framework to guide
the analysis, the paper highlights how advocacy can help support
rights, but that broader structural change will be required to
consistently uphold the rights of parents
Exploring the impact of instructor social presence on student engagement in online higher education

INTRODUCTION
Digital pedagogies have impacted traditional approaches towards teaching and as this
phenomenon continues to expand, a clearer understanding of the role of instructors’ social
presence in online learning environments is imperative. Using a sequential explanatory mixed
methods design, this study investigates instructor social presence and its impact on student
engagement at higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates. The study includes
data collected through a survey, which was distributed amongst faculty members (n=30),
followed by several in-depth interviews. The study explores the relationship between constructs
of instructor social presence and student engagement. Findings suggest that instructor social
presence positively influences student engagement and attrition. The study also identifies
different strategies and barriers instructors face in establishing their online social presence. The
study has practical implications for stakeholders and curriculum designers seeking to improve
and enhance the learning outcomes in online education
Damage detection in hybrid metal-composite plates using ultrasonic guided waves based on outliers estimate
The present research focusses on the development of a robust data-driven damage
diagnosis technique to detect different types of damages in a hybrid metal-composite (HMC) plate
specimen resulting from manufacturing processes, loading conditions, and ambient environmental
conditions. These defects over a course of time deteriorate the load-bearing capacity of the HMC’s
and in turn, their reliability in terms of safe operation. In this work, ultrasonic guided waves
(UGW) are used for non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of the HMC. The use of UGW for NDE
offers advantages such as long-range inspection and sensitivity to small-sized surface and sub surface damages. The ultrasonic tests are simulated using a pitch-catch active sensing technique at
a typical frequency-mode pair best suited to detect and classify damages in the HMCs. The
damage-sensitive feature is extracted from the received UGW using Hilbert transform-based
feature extraction method. The damage indicator is classified in the damage-sensitive feature space
using the root mean square technique identified as outliers, which is further used to classify the
detected damages. The achieved results manifest the ability of the proposed technique to be a part
of the industrial structural integrity inspection process typically for HMCs in detecting and
classifying embedded damages with high accuracy
Impact of Business Intelligence Systems on the Management of the Green Supply Chain
The study investigates the function of business intelligence (BI) in relation to green supply chains. Organizations are looking for methods to incorporate environmental issues into their supply chain procedures as sustainability becomes more crucial for enterprises. Business intelligence has the potential to encourage and assist green supply chain activities because of its capacity for data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Understanding how business intelligence can facilitate and improve green supply chains is the research challenge at hand. The study's specific goal is to look into how BI technologies, tools, and processes may be used to boost supply chain management's sustainability performance, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
An extensive literature evaluation was done to address the research issue and lay the groundwork for the study's theoretical framework. The assessment addressed important subjects like performance evaluation, corporate intelligence, sustainability, and green supply chain management. This made it possible to comprehend the main ideas and how they relate to one another in the context of the study question.
Semi-structured interviews with supply chain experts, managers, and professionals were conducted using a qualitative research technique. The purpose of the interviews was to learn more about the present methods, problems, and opportunities related to incorporating business intelligence into green supply chains. Rich, contextualized data that captured the complexity and nuances of the research issue were made possible by the qualitative technique.
The main conclusions of this study emphasize the critical part that business intelligence plays in fostering and expanding green supply chains. Business intelligence solutions can make it possible to collect and analyze data in real-time, giving supply chain participants the useful information they need to make smart decisions and advance sustainability. Organizations may discover areas for development and track their advancement toward sustainability goals thanks to the monitoring, recording, and reporting of environmental performance indicators made easier by the integration of BI tools and technology
By nature, a social animal: an exploration of perceptions of online group work
This research, exploring the value of online group work through
postgraduate student perceptions of engagement, surveyed 71
students and interviewed 11, over three rounds of data collection.
Participants were taught postgraduate students in a higher educa
tion institution education faculty in the United Arab Emirates. The
f
indings are relevant for our understanding of online group work;
assessment design; communication; and community building.
Research took place over a 12-month period, beginning before
COVID-19, in February 2020 with face to face teaching, and ending
during the third term of fully online teaching in January 2021. This
phenomenological research charts student perception and attitude
changes. Social Cognitive Theory, the Technology Acceptance
Model and Social Constructivism form the theoretical framework
within which participant engagement, behaviour and perception
are explored. The findings provide a reflective analysis regarding
student perception, engagement and acceptance of online group
work as a valid approach to meeting learning outcomes
Comparative Analysis of Thermal Conditions and Comfort Between Modern and Traditional Districts in Hot-Arid Climate: Case Study in Ajman-UAE
Passive design solutions play a pivotal role in fostering sustainable practices within
traditional architecture, as they empower historical urban designs to harmoniously engage
with their surroundings and weather conditions, particularly in hot regions such as the
United Arab Emirates. This research followed a qualitative approach to propose
modifications for the thermal conditions and comfort in the modern contemporary urban
districts based on the positive strategies from old traditional ones in a Hot-Arid Climate -
Ajman-United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a case study using ENVI-met software-microscale
three-dimensional software model for simulating complex urban environments. Moreover,
this study made an evaluation and comparison of the outdoor air temperature and thermal
comfort between the traditional and modern urban districts to highlight the passive design
solutions that increase the thermal effectiveness in the traditional urban fabrics, as some of
these passive design solutions can be used to modify the thermal conditions in the modern
ones. Additionally, the research output revealed that the traditional urban design has
valuable, sustainable strategies, as there was a decrease in the maximum reading for the air
temperature for the traditional Ajman heritage district compared to the modern district on
the 21st of August - as a reference day- and that improved the thermal comfort in the
outdoor open spaces too. In conclusion, the study results confirmed that the thermal
conditions in the existing modern districts could be improved using passive design
solutions such as shading devices and greenery. Finally, this research is expected to be a
phase amongst different phases that can benefit urban designers and architects to adopt
strategies from traditional and vernacular urban projects and merge them with
contemporary modern urban design
