    Arabic Sentiment Analysis for Gulf Opinion Leaders using a Deep Learning Approach Case Study: Covid-19-22

    The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on global health and has affected various populations worldwide. In the Arab world, social media has emerged as a critical platform for expressing opinions, sharing information, and disseminating news related to COVID-19. However, the proliferation of false information and the spread of fear and panic on social media have created a significant problem. This study aims to investigate how Arab populations, including both opinion leaders and the general public, have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic on Twitter. The research focuses on analysing sentiment and developing a deep learning model to detect real news associated with the pandemic in Arabic text. By gathering and analyzing data from Gulf countries, the study provides insights into the sentiments expressed and contributes to understanding how opinion leaders and the general public engage with COVID-19 on Twitter. Additionally, the study evaluates the efficacy of the deep learning model in combating misinformation and highlights the significance of sentiment analysis and news detection in the Arabic language. Data collection was conducted using Twitter's API, focusing on Arabic tweets from Gulf opinion leaders, utilizing specific keywords, hashtags, and user accounts related to COVID-19. The testing phase involved collecting 100,000 tweets from January to June 2022, with an emphasis on quality and relevance, including opinion leaders with significant follower counts and those recognized for their expertise or influence in the field. Overall, this research contributes to understanding the response to COVID-19 on Twitter and provides valuable insights into sentiment analysis and the detection of real news in Arabic text

    A New English/Arabic Parallel Corpus for Phishing Emails

    Phishing involves malicious activity whereby phishers, in the disguise of legitimate entities, obtain illegit imate access to the victims’ personal and private information, usually through emails. Currently, phishing attacks and threats are being handled effectively through the use of the latest phishing email detection so lutions. Most current phishing detection systems assume phishing attacks to be in English, though attacks in other languages are growing. In particular, Arabic is a widely used language and therefore represents a vulnerable target. However, there is a significant shortage of corpora that can be used to develop Arabic phishing detection systems. This article presents the development of a new English-Arabic parallel phishing email corpusthat has been developed from the anti-phishing share task text (IWSPA-AP 2018). The email con tent was to be translated, and the task had been allotted to 10 volunteers who had a university background and were English and Arabic language experts. To evaluate the effectiveness of the new corpus, we develop phishing email detection models using Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency and Multilayer Per ceptron using 1,258 emails in Arabic and English that have equal ratios of legitimate and phishing emails. The experimental findings show that the accuracy reaches 96.82% for the Arabic dataset and 94.63% for the emails in English, providing some assurance of the potential value of the parallel corpus developed

    An Investigation of Foreign Language Teaching Anxiety among EFL and EMI Arab Teachers in UAE.

    Teachers' fear, apprehension, unease, or worry might be related to foreign language teaching or teaching other subjects using foreign languages. This is referred to as "foreign language teaching anxiety". The present research aims at investigating teaching anxiety among EFL and EMI Arab teachers in UAE. The research questions are addressed using a transformational concurrent mixed method research. The study representative sample included one hundred thirty-six Arab EFL (English teachers) and EMI (math, science, and ICT teachers) from three different school types (American, British, and MOE curriculum schools) in the UAE. A mixed-form questionnaire was used as the research instrument. SPSS was used to analyze the study’s quantitative data. While qualitative data analysis was done through thematic analysis. According to the results, rarely do teachers experience foreign language teaching anxiety; they rarely faced problems of self-perception of language proficiency, teaching inexperience, fear of negative evaluation, and difficulties in time management. However, they sometimes faced a lack of students’ interest. The study indicates that there is a statistically significant difference in the level of foreign language teaching anxiety according to (gender, years of experience, school type, and age). The results of the study also showed that anxiety has positive impacts on teachers as it enhances their self-improvement, motivation, and creativity and it urges them to plan and self-control. On the other hand, teaching anxiety has negative impacts on teachers that affect their personality, teaching process, and evaluation. Future studies recommended may investigate other factors affecting teachers' anxiety. These factors include supervision and evaluation consequences, student level of language proficiency and type of the skill being taught

    In modern society, education serves as a cornerstone of societal progress, driven by the quality and quantity of educational personnel, standards, leadership styles of school principals, resources, and the learning environment. Educational leaders hold significant responsibilities, from evaluations to maintaining high standards and ensuring Ministry of Education compliance, shaping the school culture through their leadership styles. Research highlights the substantial impact of leadership styles on teacher and staff satisfaction. This emphasizes the need for school leaders to understand effective leadership styles for sustaining satisfaction. Teacher satisfaction is influenced by various factors, such as relationships with principals, peer connections, compensation, workload, curriculum, community support, facilities, job contentment, and professional reputation. This research explores how diverse leadership styles affect teacher satisfaction, from the teachers' perspective. The findings have practical value for educators and administrators, underscoring the role of effective leadership in recruiting and retaining qualified educators. It also sheds light on the importance of principals' understanding of instructional methodologies and their impact on teacher well-being and effectiveness. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance educational outcomes and overall education quality. This research adopted a quantitative approach to systematically collect and analyse numerical data, aiming to investigate the association between teacher job satisfaction and principal leadership styles. The study concentrated on teachers and the principal of a school situated in Sharjah city, United Arab Emirates, following the British curriculum and comprising approximately 300 teachers. Upon analysing the collected data, the author concludes that there exists a positive correlation between the leadership style of principals and teachers' job satisfaction. Furthermore, the research establishes that leadership style, whether transformational, transactional, or laissez-faire, invariably leads to higher levels of teacher job satisfaction

    Comparative Study of the Structural Behaviour of Cast Acrylic & Laminated Glass Under the Impact of Dynamic Loading in Aquatic Applications

    Laminated glass (LG) and cast acrylic (CA) materials have differences in their structural behaviors regarding the impact of dynamic loading in aquatic applications. The difference can be due to these materials' consistency and mechanical properties. This study aimed to distinguish the differences in structural behaviors of cast acrylic and laminated glass in aquatic applications under the impact of dynamic loading and what industry guidelines and standards can be developed to ensure their safe and effective use in this setting. The study starts in Phase I by selecting the strip method for both LG and CA to observe the deflection magnitudes of hydrostatical pressure of a 40mm thickness tank wall that has a depth of 6m, and then a shell element model for both materials was built using CSI SAP software to establish accurate statistical modeling of the tank with same wall thickness and exerted hydrostatic pressure depth. The results in Phase I exhibited that CA sheets had 10% to 15% more deflection than it was in LG, and experienced negative bending moments of about 90 kN.m near the base edges, and around 40 kN.m as maximum positive bending moments. Whereas LG’s straining actions recorded a magnitude close to 100 kN.m as positive bending moments and almost 180 kN.m as negative bending moments near the edges at the same parameters of the study. In Phase II of the study, the materials were submitted to dynamic loads analysis to examine their structural boundaries. The model was established using LS Dyna software to mimic an accidental collision incident of amphibians and/or mammal creatures to the LG and CA tank walls. Masses, velocities, hydrostatic pressure, and wall thicknesses were all included in Phase II of the study to assess the impact of each variable on the built model. The study achieved accurate simulations since there were four different parameters in each analysis running cycle allowing sophisticated investigations of both materials by pushing their structural behavior under the impact loads of collisions to their extreme boundaries, especially when gradual incremental changes in the magnitude of each parameter are applied. The model was adjusted to compare the actual deflection and applied stress criteria with the aforementioned four variable parameters. The obtained results exposed the superiority of CA sheets in most of the collision cases in contrast with LG. CA sheets had the least deflection and stress values in regard to wall thickness, however, they showed a gradually increasing deflection against higher velocities in contrast with LG which revealed rather constant deflections versus the same set of velocity increments. LG sheets expressed a dramatic increase in the applied stress against the increment of the colliding mass, however, they could remain more conservative against recorded deflection magnitudes under the same increment set of moving mass. Finally, CA sheets recorded slightly lower deflection values than it was in LG under the increasing effect of hydrostatic pressure (collision depth) and eventually showed almost a constant behavior of stress but significantly lower than those recorded in LG sheets

    An Assessment of the Effectiveness of the Implementation of the Mathematics ‘Assessment for, as and of Learning’ Strategy in a Primary School in Dubai

    The effective implementation of classroom assessment is central to a successful teaching and learning cycle. The present study aims to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the mathematics ‘Assessment for, as and of Learning’ strategy in a primary school in Dubai. Participants in this study were six third grade students grouped into three groups (low, middle, and high achievers) together with the primary Math coordinator and a classroom teacher. The study employed four research methods: classroom observations, analysis of some students’ assessment work, semi-structure interview with the coordinator and teacher as well as students focus group discussion. The findings revealed that the ‘Assessment for, as and of Learning’ strategy is mostly effectively implemented in mathematics providing an efficient data collection resource that measures students’ understanding and informs future teaching instructions. Still, some challenges arise from the need to differentiate assessments, features of online testing, and the inconsistent feedback. Discussions were then made on these issues in the classroom and the expected effect on students’ learning. Therefore, implementing ‘assessment for, as and of learning’ strategy in mathematics has an operative effect on students’ learning progress but should take into consideration the implied challenges

    The Environmental and Economic Impacts of the Use of Recycled Asphalt during the Preventive Maintenance of Roadway in the UAE.

    Roadways provide the primary means of connection between one area and another. The road network is an essential element of infrastructure development planning, which supports the ability of the citizens to transport goods and services and to travel smoothly. It is, therefore, imperative that an efficient road network is maintained. The significance of a well-maintained efficient roadway network notwithstanding, it is necessary that precious natural resources are saved, and the roadway maintenance practice is geared towards reducing its impacts on the environment. The study assesses the application of cold in-place recycled asphalt in roadway maintenance procedures where the asphalt pavement condition is tested. The options that are provided as a roadway maintenance process in the Dibba-Masafi E89 roadway in the UAE are found by exploring roadway case studies, building software models using RAMS, running different scenarios for the optimum modelling, and studying the priority of undergoing the maintenance among federal roadways. This research attempts to determine the roadway maintenance choices in the UAE federal roadways, by suggesting the use of recycled asphalt in the preventive maintenance of pavements. Financial and environmental advantages are anticipated when using recycled asphalt pavement in roadway maintenance. The study uses combined qualitative and quantitative methodologies to answer research questions to achieve the research aim and objectives. The possible benefits of using recycled asphalt pavement in roadway maintenance have been examined and the disadvantages of using it have been illustrated to understand the effectiveness of the material to be used as an alternative solution. The enhancement to the maintenance system used in the UAE Federal roadways is targeted to reduce the need for maintenance, thus cutting running costs as well as maintenance process costs that comply with sustainability requirements. There are different characteristics and parameters such as rutting, cracking, pavement quality Index, and roughness of pavements that are assessed to get the best solution. To illustrate, the parameters have been explained in detail using RAMS simulation. Depending on that, the maintenance of the roadway performance is done by comparing the roadway to the codes and standards. Furthermore, the economic influences which have been obtained from using recycled asphalt pavement in roadway maintenance are evaluated by the comparison of three scenarios by life cycle cost analysis with consideration of the analysis for 20 years. The scenarios were 50 mm mill and overlay, cold-in-place recycling (CIPR) and reconstruction. The best scenario was chosen (CIPR) with a cost of 174,292 Dhs. Besides that, environmental impact was through waste fill land calculation based on the volume of the case study of the Dibba- Masafi roadway, 13,285 m3 from the conventional pavements, shows that managing this construction area’s waste is a challenge within its given rising volume. However, by using recycled asphalt, 10,488 m3 of waste. Using recycled asphalt saves around 79%. The Future roadway maintenance plans in UAE federal roadways can be more efficient and ensure a better level of service. RAP assists in prioritizing maintenance plans for roadways with the use of RAMS data analysis, which enhances the sustainability and efficiency of the performance

    Socio-Economic Environmental Feasibility of Groundwater Pricing in the UAE

    Environmental responsibility and preventing depletion are among the country's fundamental development principles. The UAE depends on its groundwater resources, particularly groundwater accounts for 93% of total agriculture water use. Farmers and landowners are free of charges for groundwater use, while power bills are subsidized. However, with their already limited availability, groundwater resources have been aggressively exploited to maintain farm productivity in the desert. This paper analyzes the most critical proposed scenarios for pricing groundwater in the UAE for groundwater. For the sustainability of a groundwater resource and to reduce the water demand in the agriculture sector. To respond to this issue, various investigative methodologies have been used to achieve the study objective, including descriptive, analytical, and deductive approaches, which are generated sequentially to select the best scenario of integration. The results and analyses showed that the best and appropriate method for pricing groundwater is a volumetric pricing tariff according to the quantity of extracted water since the contributes of the agriculture area is fewer than 1% to the UAE’s gross domestic product (GDP). In conclusion, the final groundwater tariff conducted and reflected, measured as an economic and environmental impact to reflect the results of this study with a proposed implementation plan if the government decides to execute it
