Utilization of a Grid Connected PV System to Power a Water Purifying Plant with Economic and Environmental Feasibility Analysis

    No full text
Grid connected Photo Voltaic (PV) system is designed to power a water purification plant mounted on the roof of a commercial building. The system is scaled to the water plant's requirements, and the tilt angle of the panels is calibrated to produce the most energy possible throughout the year. The return on investment must be attained in less than six years from commissioning, which is a lofty goal. Net metering feature which allows exporting excess energy to the grid is discussed and emphasized. The viability of this technique is highlighted, and simulations of the designed system are shown to back up its theoretical promises. Throughout the course of the project, the building's carbon footprint is reduced as well by over 200 tons of CO2 emissions. The study provides an environmental analysis to showcase this improvement

Exploring the Efficacy of Adopting English as the Medium of Instruction in Moral Education: A Study of an American Curriculum School in Sharjah, UAE

    No full text
Moral Education (ME) is a newly added subject to all schools’ curricula in the UAE to promote tolerance and foster global principles, morals, and values shared by the overall community. Although schools are eligible to choose between English and Arabic as the language of instruction to teach ME, many schools which include mainly Arab students have opted for English as the medium of instruction (EMI) to teach ME. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the policy of adopting EMI to teach ME at an American curriculum school in Sharjah, UAE. Moreover, eight English teachers and four members of the Senior Leadership Team were interviewed through three sets of semi-structured interviews. The study findings showed English language teachers’ disagreement with the policy. Furthermore, the findings demonstrated that teachers’ voices were fully disregarded while establishing the policy by the Senior Leadership Team

The Role of Stakeholder Engagement in Sustainable Business Model Value Creation: The Mediating Effects of Dynamic Capability and Organisational Agility in Dubai’s Private Healthcare

    No full text
This study examines the influence of stakeholder engagement on sustainable business model value creation, mediated by dynamic capability and organisational agility. As sustainability has become a pressing global priority, this has compelled organisations, including those in the healthcare sector, to integrate it into their strategic and operational practices to tackle the increasing environmental, social, and economic pressures. Dubai’s healthcare sector, in particular, faces rapid population growth, increasing resource consumption, and the imperative to align with national sustainability initiatives such as the UAE Vision 2050. Grounded in stakeholder theory, stakeholder engagement is positioned as a driver for value creation, while dynamic capability and organisational agility are conceived as core organisational capabilities that mediate this relationship. A quantitative research methodology was employed, using a survey research strategy and questionnaire research instrument to collect data from 245 private healthcare organisations in Dubai. The findings reveal a significant positive relationship between stakeholder engagement and sustainable business model value creation. This effect is further conveyed through the partial mediation of dynamic capability and organisational agility, underscoring their strategic importance in enhancing a competitive advantage, organisational adaptability, and value creation. Theoretically, the study advances the project management scholarship by offering evidence-based insights into the integration of stakeholder engagement with organisational capabilities to strengthen sustainability outcomes. Practically, it equips healthcare leaders, policymakers, and project managers with actionable insights to align stakeholder engagement strategies with the long-term sustainability objectives

The Impact of Integrating ESD in Fostering Sustainable Behavior Among Young Children: Perspectives of teachers and parents in selected nurseries in the UAE

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into early childhood education in UAE nurseries. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected from 15 nurseries across three emirates through surveys, focus groups, and classroom observations. Key findings include a significant positive correlation between ESD integration and children's sustainable behaviors, improved environmental awareness, and transfer of eco-friendly practices to home environments. Challenges identified include resource constraints and the need for enhanced teacher training. The research contributes to limited literature on ESD in early childhood education in the UAE, offering recommendations for a UAE-specific ESD curriculum framework and increased investment in teacher professional development. Limitations include a focus on urban nurseries. Future research should explore ESD implementation in diverse geographical settings within the UAE. The study concludes that strategic ESD integration in early childhood education can foster environmentally conscious citizens, aligning with UAE's sustainability goals. A systemic approach to ESD implementation in nurseries is recommended to maximize impact on children's sustainable behavior. The Challenges of Implementing English Formative and Summative Assessments in Secondary Schools in the UAE: Perspectives of Teachers and School Leaders

    No full text
This study addresses the challenges of implementing English language assessments in secondary schools that follow the Ministry of Education (MoE) curriculum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Educators often encounter persistent issues that impact the effectiveness of assessments, despite the clear MoE assessment policy guide and planners. The embedded mixed-methods approach has been adopted in this study, and data were collected through a survey of 36 English teachers and interviews with 18 educators, including English teachers, IT teachers, and school leaders from four private secondary schools in Al Ain city. The results indicated that educators face several challenges, including time constraints, workload, large class sizes, student proficiency gaps, and persistent technical issues. Despite teachers' showing strong assessment literacy, these challenges hinder the effectiveness of assessment implementation. Also, a gap between formative and summative assessments was identified. Summative assessments are often given more importance, which may increase student anxiety and lead teachers to focus more on reading and writing skills. Recommendations include providing hands-on training focused on differentiated assessment strategies, integrating Bloom's Taxonomy, using AI tools for designing and grading assessments, and sharing assessment resources among teachers. It is also recommended that schools collect student feedback after assessments to improve their quality and relevance. The limitations of this study include a limited geographic scope and insufficient time to collect additional data. Despite this, the findings offer useful information about improving English assessment practices across secondary schools in the UAE. Keywords: English language assessment, assessment implementation, UAE education, mixed-methods study, secondary school
