Factors Impacting Patient Loyalty in the Government Hospitals of Dubai: How can we Reduce Patient Attrition?
Abstract
Patient attrition in the government hospitals of Dubai has emerged as a critical concern in recent years, highlighting the need for comprehensive research to address this issue. This quantitative research study aims to unravel the intricate interplay between integrated care, patient safety measures, doctor quality, and patient attrition within the context of government healthcare facilities in Dubai. Patient attrition, often referred to as patient turnover or the loss of patients from a healthcare facility's care continuum, has been a growing challenge faced by government hospitals in Dubai. Factors contributing to patient attrition include patients seeking care outside the government healthcare system, discontinuing treatment prematurely, or experiencing dissatisfaction with the care they receive. Understanding the underlying causes and relationships between various healthcare variables is crucial to mitigate patient attrition and improve the overall quality of care in government hospitals. The research questions encompass a broad spectrum of factors influencing patient attrition and healthcare performance in the unique healthcare landscape of Dubai. The study delves into the extent of integrated care provided to patients, the correlation between patient safety measures and patient attrition, the impact of patients' perceptions of doctor quality on their healthcare-seeking behaviour and the specific aspects of integrated care influencing patient safety. Additionally, it investigates how the integration of patient care affects doctors' performance and development, and how doctor quality impacts the implementation of safety protocols in patient care. To achieve these objectives, this study employs both Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Partial Least Sqaure Method for a comprehensive quantitative analysis tailored to the context of government hospitals in Dubai. The research hypotheses guide the investigation, positing the positive significant effects of integrated care, patient safety, and doctor quality on patient attrition. Furthermore, the research explores the mediating roles of patient safety and doctor quality between integrated care and patient attrition, as well as their combined mediating effect. This research aims to provide valuable insights into optimising healthcare delivery within government hospitals in Dubai by shedding light on the relationships and mechanisms underlying patient attrition, patient safety, doctor quality, and integrated care. The findings will be essential for healthcare administrators, policymakers, and practitioners, offering evidence-based strategies to enhance patient satisfaction, safety, and the overall experience in the government healthcare system of Dubai.

An Investigation of the Influence of Educational Settings on the Acquisition of the English Language: A comparative Analysis of the Curriculum Provided by the Ministry of Education at a Public School in Fujairah and the American Curriculum in a Private School.
This study compares two very different educational curriculums frameworks on teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). These contexts are a public school in Fujairah that follows the curriculum established by the Ministry of Education, and a private school in the United Arab Emirates that implements the American curriculum. The key goals of this study are to (1) investigate the elements that play a role in the acquisition of ESL in different curricula, and (2) evaluate the ways in which these factors play distinct roles in the different environments. I used a procedure known as triangulation, which involved collecting data using three different approaches. To begin, a document analysis was carried out to investigate the various papers pertaining to the curriculum and the institution. Second, there was an evaluation of the overall atmosphere of learning outside of the classroom, through the use of observation. Third, in order to obtain insight into the teachers’ perspectives on the use of a specific curriculum for teaching English as a Second Language, as well as their comments on the specific curriculum, interviews were conducted with the teachers. The Ministry of Education curriculum has a strong emphasis on structure and uniformity, whereas the American curriculum places a stronger emphasis on flexibility and a communicative teaching method. The major findings illustrate that while both curricula strive to enhance language competency, the nature of this effect differs. The implications highlight the necessity for an individualised ESL curriculum and inclusive learning settings that take into consideration the varied learning preferences and cultural backgrounds of students. In the end, the findings of this study point to the conclusion that maximising English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction in a variety of educational settings requires identifying the contextual differences that exist and finding ways to accommodate them

A Decision Modelling Approach for Perceived and Engaged Immersive Visual Interactive Applications on the Metaverse
Many researchers have developed and implemented various immersive visual interactive applications that incorporate visualization and interaction techniques, support the visual construct and enhance exploration in the Metaverse. Benchmarking these applications is critical due to the absence of an ideal model, particularly given their varied development criteria. The multiple evaluations, significance, and the data variability of these criteria among various applications present challenges that necessitate using specific multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. This study introduces a new decision modelling approach that extends the fuzzy-weighted zero inconsistency (FWZIC) method with the new Interval-Valued Fermatean Neutrosophic fuzzy sets (IVFN) and combines it with the extended ranking method, Više kriterijumska Optimization I compromise Rešenje (VIKOR) and Gray relational analysis (GRA). The modelling approach benchmarks the most perceived immersive visual interactive applications using the extended VIKOR-GRA method based on a decision matrix of 18 criteria and 29 alternatives for the four visualization scenarios. The new extended IVFN-FWZIC method weighs the criteria for benchmarking the optimal applications based on experts’ judgments. The results illustrate the effectiveness of the modelling approach and indicate that "spatial" and “haptics” are the most significant criteria in evaluating immersive visual interactive applications. The robustness and reliability of the results were validated and evaluated using sensitivity analysis, comparative analysis, and a systematic ranking process. This study offers a vision for decision-makers and stakeholders, contributing to improving visualization and exploration of the Metaverse
Discourse Analysis of Lexical Cohesive Devices in Shakespearean Sonnets: Exploring their Significant Functions and Roles in ESL Poetry Classes
This study investigates the function of lexical cohesive devices in Shakespeare's sonnets and aims to transfer their significance to ESL poetry classes. Employing a qualitative approach and manual discourse analysis, the study explores the correlation between the usage of these devices and the overall expression and quality of poems. Grounded in the interpretivism paradigm, the research utilizes Halliday and Hasan's 1976 model of cohesive devices as an analytical framework. Through purposive sampling of four sonnets, the study delves into how lexical cohesive devices emphasize key themes, enhance rhythm and flow, improve clarity and fluency, create cohesion between adjacent words, and add variety to language. Moreover, the research reveals how these devices contribute to creating contrast and tension, adding specificity and detail, illustrating relationships between components, enhancing descriptive detail, and establishing symmetry within the sonnets. The findings underscore the pedagogical significance of understanding and teaching cohesive devices in poetry writing. Furthermore, the study introduces a practical and innovative pedagogical tool—the graphic organizer—that bridges the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application in poetry education. This research contributes significantly to the field by offering concrete strategies for educators to empower students in their poetic endeavors
Towards Sustainable Low-Embodied-Carbon Concrete Alternatives
This paper evaluates the benefits of using environmentally sustainable low-embodied carbon alternatives to traditional concrete, as the concrete industry is responsible for significant global greenhouse gas emissions due to its environmental impact. This research conducts a comprehensive analysis to identify the environmental effects of alternative materials compared to Ordinary Portland Concrete. It specifically focuses on the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-Eqv) emissions associated with different concrete compressive strength grade classifications. The analysis includes a comparison of normalized carbon emissions data across a wide range of papers and reporting formats using the unit of kilograms of carbon per megapascal (MPa).
The paper discusses the impact of the compressive strength grade, the type of alternative material, and the quantity of replacement. The findings indicate that replacing Ordinary Portland Concrete with alternatives such as Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), Fly Ash (FA), and Alkali-Activated materials (AA) results in enhanced efficiency by reducing the carbon footprint. Using the type of (GGBS) gives a superior reduction at most of the selected compressive strength grades. The carbon emissions vary based on the replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with alternative materials during the production of concrete. Therefore, it is crucial to thoroughly assess the selection of combinations for each specific concrete grade to achieve positive environmental results in comparison to (OPC)
Perceptions and Practices Related to Twice-Exceptional Learners in K-12 American Private Schools in Dubai
Recent studies have shown a gap in the literature about twice-exceptional learners, which has led to a lack of awareness and different perceptions among stakeholders due to the comorbidity they possess. The UAE is indomitable towards earning the first class in education, which is incarnated in its ‘Golden Jubilee" and the new vision of 2030, especially educating learners with SEND. Therefore, holistic efforts exerted by KHDA have been witnessed in 2017 by amending the inclusive education policy across the UAE nation, along with “the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination." However, the Ministry of Education and Dubai Inclusive Education policy framework have not recognized "twice-exceptional learners" as an individual category who, from equity and social justice, deserve all rights to be fairly educated, yet they have been marginalized in inclusive settings, hence the significance of this study. This study aimed to investigate perceptions, practices, and awareness about twice-exceptional learners in K–12 American private schools in Dubai, with a great focus on the kindergarten phase as a starting point in which issues related to identification, support, and provision constitute a great challenge. Additionally, the contribution of twice-exceptional learners’ parents and their reflections about their challenges and experiences with their twice-exceptional children have been an important factor that has added great value to this study. A concurrent parallel mixed method design was employed in the study; quantitative data was collected using a questionnaire to survey K–12 teachers; qualitative data was collected using semi-structured interviews with stakeholders; observations of twice-exceptional learners in mainstream classrooms, and document analysis of policies, guidelines, frameworks, and schools’ documents. Quantitative data have been analyzed using SPSS, and qualitative data have been analyzed using thematic analysis.
Results of the study have revealed that stakeholders and K–12 teachers have shown different perceptions, experiences, and low levels of awareness towards the education of twice-exceptional learners due to many factors and challenges. The recommendations from this study emphasize future improvement through establishing a comprehensive K–12 policy framework specially designed to shape the education of 2e learners, provide continuous professional development for K–12 teachers, and increase the quality of provision in mainstream settings. This study will provide future suggestions for governmental entities and private schools to reform their inclusion policies and guidelines to meet the individual needs of 2E learners, in addition to its contribution to the literature for its uniqueness through changing the perceptions of stakeholders and enhancing their awareness about twice-exceptional learners in American private schools in Dubai, in higher education, in other Emirates, and other countries
