BackgroundUltrafine particles are present in ever greater quantities in the workplace and only one epidemiological study to date has found an association with the occurrence of lung cancer.ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of occupational exposure to ultrafine particles on the risk of lung cancer.MethodsThe ARDCO is a surveillance program involving retiree workers who had been exposed to asbestos during their working life. Exposure to ultrafine particles over the complete lifetime occupational history was assessed using the French job exposure matrix MATPUF. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).ResultsThere was no association between exposure to ultrafine particles and lung cancer after adjustment for smoking and exposure to asbestos and crystalline silica.ConclusionThe findings do not indicate increased risks of lung cancer for UFP after adjustment for level of exposure to asbestos, crystalline silica, and smoking status.Clinical trial numberNot applicable

Les travaux pratiques traditionnels en térahertz (THz) reposent souvent sur des systèmes coûteux, encombrants
et complexes, ce qui les rend inaccessibles à de nombreux établissements d’enseignement et limite l’interaction
pratique pour les étudiants. Cet article présente une nouvelle approche de l’enseignement du térahertz à l’aide de systèmes
radar FMCW 122 GHz compacts. Ces appareils abordables permettent aux étudiants de s’engager dans un apprentissage
pratique et kinesthésique tout en développant leurs compétences en traitement du signal via LabVIEW. Nous décrivons la
configuration matérielle et logicielle, décrivons les expériences clés telles que la mesure de la résolution et l’évaluation
de la distance, et soulignons les avantages pédagogiques de cette solution accessible et évolutive. Enfin, nous discutons
de son potentiel pour la vulgarisation scientifique et les avancées futures dans l’enseignement du THz.This article introduces an innovative pedagogical approach designed to facilitate hands-on teaching of terahertz (THz) waves using compact FMCW radar systems operating at 122 GHz. Traditionally, practical THz education involves expensive, bulky, and complex equipment, limiting accessibility for many educational institutions. To overcome these barriers, the authors propose a radar setup based on affordable SiliconRadar SiGe modules mounted on a 3D-printed support, complemented by two PTFE lenses for adjustable beam focusing. The compact and portable design allows easy deployment on standard classroom tables without specialized infrastructure. Educational activities revolve around the LabVIEW software platform, enabling students to independently acquire and process radar signals. Practical exercises include time-domain processing, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), spectral analysis, calibration procedures, precise distance and thickness measurements, and beam characterization using the "knife-edge" method. Highly motivated students further extended their experiments by spontaneously developing a sound generation system linked directly to radar signal feedback. This pedagogical methodology emphasizes kinesthetic and interactive learning, with students physically manipulating radar components to tangibly visualize theoretical concepts associated with millimeter waves. The authors highlight significant improvements in student engagement, autonomy, and intrinsic motivation. Future developments aim to integrate advanced data processing techniques, including artificial intelligence, and establish an open-source collaborative platform for educators and researchers to share educational resources, experimental protocols, and software tools, thus democratizing and enhancing THz wave education

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a worldwide health issue with a high number of asymptomatic cases and the possibility of multiple infections. New multiplex real-time PCR kits targeting pathogens involved in nonviral STIs are regularly launched, but only some of them have been evaluated in comparative studies. This study evaluated the clinical performance of two multiplex real-time PCR commercial kits for the detection of , , and : the Bosphore STD Urethritis Mini Bundle Kit (BK; Anatolia Geneworks) and the Viasure Sexually Transmitted Disease Real-Time PCR Detection Kit (VK; CerTest BIOTEC). A total of 240 clinical specimens were evaluated. The results were compared with those of the Cobas CT/NG and TV/MG kits (Roche Diagnostics), used as reference methods. Positive agreement ranged between 83.3% and 87.8% for the detection of , and using validated specimen types. For detection, positive agreement was 83.0% for the BK and 68.1% for the VK, which missed 31.9% of -positive specimens. Negative agreement ranged between 98.4% and 100% across the targeted micro-organisms. Both kits were easy to use and compatible with several DNA extraction and PCR thermal cyclers. The VK also detected the genital commensal bacteria spp. and , which should not be targeted in STI detection kits. Both kits are convenient methods and showed good performance for the detection of nonviral STIs, but users should be aware of a lower sensitivity of the VK for the detection of

BACKGROUND: The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has established regulations to protect amateur players from the risks of concussions. To assess compliance with the FFR protocol, our objectives were to evaluate players' knowledge in a sample of rugby clubs and to analyze the management of recent concussions, including the rate of concussion reporting to the FFR. METHODS: In this cross-sectional descriptive survey, amateur adult rugby players from FFR-licensed clubs in southwestern France were interviewed during the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons. Players were asked to complete a questionnaire. RESULTS: Among the 193 players surveyed, only 27% (n = 52) reported being aware of the return-to-play protocol. Of the 28 players (14.5%) who experienced a recent concussion, just 11 sought medical attention and only 3 of these concussions were officially reported to the FFR. Fewer than half of the players who received guidance on a gradual return to sports followed the recommendations in full. CONCLUSION: These findings highlight the need for educational initiatives to raise awareness within clubs

NMRProcFlow1 (nmrprocflow.org) is a web-based tool for processing batches of 1D 1H,13C and 31P NMR spectra. It was initiated for 1H-NMR-based metabolomics and developedat Bordeaux-Metabolome-Facility in interaction with NMR specialists and the Frenchmetabolomics community, and finalized as part of the French MetaboHUB infrastructure.NMRProcFlow covers all the steps involved in processing spectra and preparing quantificationdata for export without the need for programming skills, in a graphical and interactiveway. CABiosE : Comparative Analyses of Biostimulant Effects on tomato crops and their associated microbiota, under water stress conditions.
The CABiosE project investigates the effects of biostimulants (BS) on tomato crops and their associated microbiota under water stress conditions. Biostimulants are products that enhance plant development by improving nutrient assimilation or tolerance to abiotic stresses. The project aims to identify mechanisms induced by BS in plants, their role in improving resilience to water stress, and their influence on rhizosphere and phyllosphere microbiota. Initial trials screened seven BS, selecting two (M6 & M7) for further study based on their effects on fruit production and plant growth under stress. Future steps include deeper investigations into BS effects on young plants, microbiota, and fruit development, as well as trials in production conditions to evaluate yield and quality. The research seeks to understand BS modes of action, variability in effectiveness, and provide recommendations for farmers facing water shortages. Results may lead to innovative tools for assessing BS efficacy and new experimental guidelines for registration dossiers.
'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani' grapevine-vector-weed pathosystem complexity investigations in Croatia
'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani' (CPs) is an etiological agent of the grapevine ‘bois noir’ (BN) disease as well as similar diseases affecting many other cultivated plants and causing significant economic losses. CPs is endemic in the Euro-Mediterranean zone, but can be sporadically detected worldwide. It circulates in different pathosystem consisting of cultivated plants, polyphagous cixiid planthopper vectors and reservoir plants, often weeds, in nature. Involvement of different CPs strains in BN disease and their different epidemiological cycles can be revealed through multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Genes tuf, encoding the translation elongation factor Tu, secY, coding for a translocation protein, and two for variable surface proteins vmp1 and stamp are frequently used to asses BN genetic diversity and thus better inform the BN disease control strategies. In this study, CPs genetic diversity research in over a decade is presented. Two new stamp (ST59) and vmp1 (V28) CPs genotypes were revealed in the grapevine and totally 28 different MLST genotypes with the prevalence of CPsSqt21 (S6/ST6/V-18/tuf-b2) type linked to Hyalesthes obsoletus vector and Urtica dioica reservoir plant. Other two important genotypes for the grapevine are CPsSqt28 (S39/ST46/V3/tuf-a) and CPsSqtT2 (S1/ST9/V4/tuf-b1) associated respectively with U. dioica and Convolvulus arvensis. Cixius wagneri vector harbors yet different vmp1 CPs genotypes all over the county. CPs was also detected in Dicthyophara europaea insect and two new potential reservoirs (Ailanthus altissima, Robinia pseudoacacia). With such high level of CPs genetic variability, it is evident that several independent cycles have to be considered regarding the BN epidemiology in Croatia, a country with unique geographical characteristics covering different eco-climatic zones within south-east Europe

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis is a severe disease, not only due to its lethality but also to a significant morbidity occurring in people living with HIV (PLWH). If factors associated to mortality, severe morbidity and unsuccessful treatment related to the host are well identified in PLWH, there is scarce knowledge on factors related to the disease itself such as bacillary load, extent of lung involvement and disease dissemination to other organs. We sought to assess whether tuberculosis-related factors were associated with key patient outcomes in PLWH using data from an international clinical trial. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of the ANRS 12300 Reflate TB2, an international phase III open-label randomized trial that assessed different antiretroviral regimens in PLWH treated for tuberculosis. We evaluated whether bacillary load (smear positivity grade), extent of lung involvement (cavitation on chest x-ray) and disease dissemination (urine LAM positivity) were associated with mortality using Cox proportional hazard models, and to severe morbidity and unsuccessful tuberculosis treatment using logistic regressions. RESULTS: Of 457 participants included in this study, 90 (20.4%) had grade 2 + or 3 + smear positivity, 39 (10.8%) had cavitation on chest X-ray, and 147 (32.2%) had a positive urinary LAM. Overall, 19 (4.2%) participants died, 113 (24.7%) presented severe morbidity, and 33 (7.2%) had unsuccessful tuberculosis treatment. Factors that remained independently associated with mortality were cavitation on chest x-ray (aHR = 7.92, 95% CI, 1.74-35.94, p = .0073) and LAM positivity (aHR = 5.53, 95% CI, 1.09-28.06, p = .0389). The only factor that remained significantly associated with severe morbidity was LAM positivity (aOR = 2.04, 95% CI, 1.06-3.92, p = .0323). No factor remained significantly associated with unsuccessful tuberculosis treatment. CONCLUSIONS: In PLWH with tuberculosis enrolled in a trial, tuberculosis disease characteristics related to disease severity were cavitation on chest x-ray and urine LAM positivity. Early identification of these factors could help improve the management of PLWH with tuberculosis and improve their survival
