Au sein de la littérature occidentale, on a rapidement perçu dans la picaresque une « tradition historiquement et géographiquement délimitée »1 propre à l’Espagne du Siècle d’or, un genre à part quasiment sans précédent. À cette idée reçue, de récentes études viennent rappeler l’importance des origines apuléiennes et lucianesques de cette formule narrative « neuve ». Le gueux à l’esprit madré semble bien ainsi le fils prodigue des Anciens. Ne faudrait-il pas, dès lors, prolonger la réflexion et reconsidérer à tout le moins le cliché scientifique qui voit dans ce personnage le parfait exemple (dissident) du héros de la Renaissance ? Le Moyen Âge n’a-t-il pas participé lui aussi à l’engendrement de l’aigrefin ? Du reste, sur la péninsule Ibérique, qui vit naître Lazarillo sur les rives du Tormès, il ne serait pas surprenant de voir affleurer quelques racines qui durent marquer de leur empreinte les vicissitudes de cet anti-héros propre à la première modernité. Que penser, en effet, de l’influent personnage de l’insubordonné qui, se positionnant contre le monarque ou contre ses différents bras institutionnels, a trouvé de nombreux échos ? Le Cid Campeador, dont s’inspira Corneille en France, est certainement l’une des figures les plus marquantes du Moyen Âge sud-européen, dans la continuité d’Achille contre Agamemnon et, plus proche de lui, de Renaud de Montauban contre Charlemagne
Berry cuticular and secondary compounds changes following heat stress contribute to resistance against Botrytis cinerea in grapevine
Vineyards are facing an increase in annual heat waves due to climate change which can interfere with grapevine diseases, and thus with wine quality and/or production. In addition, common practices, notably leaf removal, expose bunches to higher temperatures, particularly during fruit ripening. Such temperature rises modify berry metabolism and potentially the susceptibility to grapevine fungal diseases, such as gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea (Bc). This fungus, by infecting berries in post-veraison stages, can reduce severely both yield and wine quality. Our research on fruiting cuttings endeavors to elucidate the intricate interplay between heat stress (HS; + 10°C) and tolerance to subsequent Bc infection. To reproduce vineyard microclimate, HS was applied focusing onto the bunch only, at herbaceous stage in Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) and Merlot (M). In vitro test, on detached berries inoculated 22 days post-HS, revealed an enhanced tolerance for CS berries stressed. However M berries, more tolerant than CS ones, were not affected significantly by HS. These results highlight a clear berry response to infection depending on both genetic background and the HS exposure. Based on the major result that fruit ripening (mid-veraison onset, sugar accumulation) and physiology (berry weight and volume) were unaltered significantly following HS, we investigated further the accumulation of preformed defense compounds and fruit physical barriers. We performed berry cuticle composition analyses (i.e. waxes and cutins), skin antifungal tannins assessment and entire-berry metabolomics, assuming that the compounds quantified could potentially account for the heat-induced tolerance. Although a clear difference in metabolites content between CS and M, we highlighted within CS the potential key role of both cutin monomers and skin condensed tannins in the heat-induced tolerance against Bc. Eco-design for Circularity: Automatic design proposal based on structural and functional definitions of 2nd life components using Generative AI.
Many sustainable design approaches focus on preserving the value of the product when it reaches the end of its life and is assimilated to waste: functional recovery of the product or its modules, material recovery through recycling, or energy recovery. However, to ensure the highest levels of value preservation, another approach is to develop design strategies from end-of-life by reusing all or parts of the products into new ones. Artificial Intelligence (AI) introduces innovative solutions for circularity and waste management. Currently, design quality heavily relies on human expertise, modeling, and simulation tools. Our research explores the use of AI as an exchange tool between designers and endof-life stakeholders to understand requirements, search for optimal solutions, and make informed decisions. As such, we aim to develop AI solutions tailored to different stages of the design process within a circular economy framework, focusing specifically on the design of products based on recovered second-life components. We aim to enhance circularity by using Generative AI for the structural and functional reuse of end-of-life products. For functional reuse, we propose a recommendation system using large language models (LLM), and for structural reuse, we propose creative design ideas using text-to image models. Advanced technologies like Generative AI are crucial for effective product design and strengthening circular economy implementations

Early root-root interactions weaken foliar defense responses against Septoria tritici blotch in a durum wheat varietal mixture
The interactions between co-cultivated plant cultivars are increasingly recognized as influencing their susceptibility to pathogens in mixtures. However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Using a model of durum wheat cultivar mixtures where susceptibility to Septoria foliar disease is increased, we combined aerial and root phenotyping with transcriptional analyses and untargeted metabolomics to elucidate the potential signaling cascade driving this modulation of susceptibility. We observed contrasting root architectures between cultivars in mixture. Molecular analysis showed a delayed induction of defense-related genes and metabolites following pathogen inoculation in plants grown in mixture compared to pure stand. The findings suggest that root architecture potentially triggers a competitive response that could delay the induction of defense responses following pathogen inoculation.
