The transfer of oral culture products from written culture to electronic culture has accelerated with the development of mass media since the 20th century. With the development of sound recording technologies and the widespread use of mass media, the opportunity to access the voice, words and music of artists whose live performances could not be listened to thanks to radio, records and cassettes has arisen. The minstrels, who constitute the subject of our study, first found the opportunity to transmit their voices to the public with these developments, and then their voices and images to the public thanks to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, which started broadcasting television since 1968. One year after the start of TRT television broadcasts, programs that included minstrels and minstrelsy tradition were made. Since the first series program was “Saz ile Söz ile” (With the Saz and the Speech), which was broadcast in 10 episodes between 1974-1975, the study was carried out by selecting this program as a sample. In the study, the way the tradition of minstrelsy is reflected in the transfer of the tradition of minstrelsy to television, the types of performances of minstrels, the minstrels participating in the program episodes and their regions, the location and décor situation are discussed and the effect of the program on the point of cultural transfer to the audience who do not know the tradition of minstrelsy is examined. TV programs on the tradition of minstrelsy in the TRT archive were examined, the first series of programs were identified, the episodes of the program were watched and deciphered, program durations, producers and directors of the program were revealed. The tradition of minstrelsy, folklore and folk literature, cultural sources; sources on the history of television broadcasting, articles on “culture”, “folklore” and “television” in the 3rd Five-Year Development Plan of the State Planning Organization constituted the written sources of the study

Poverty is a critical social policy issue that can have particularly severe consequences for certain groups, especially the elderly. Older individuals facing poverty are less able to overcome it through personal effort compared to younger people, due to cognitive and physical decline that limits their earning potential or ability to work. Various characteristics associated with old age further increase the risk of poverty for some individuals. Identifying these vulnerable groups is crucial for designing preventive and compensatory policies. This study examines which elderly populations in Türkiye are most affected by relative income poverty, using microdata from the Turkish Statistical Institute’s Income and Living Conditions Surveys (2006–2023). The poverty threshold was set at 60% of the median per capita income, calculated using the OECD equivalence scale, and the results for individuals aged 65 and above were analyzed to identify trends. Findings indicate that women, the oldest-old, the less educated, informal workers, and those entering the labor market early face significantly higher poverty rates. Elderly poverty also varies by region and rural–urban residence. Housing status further affects deprivation: while tenants and homeowners experience fluctuations, elderly individuals living rent-free in another person’s home consistently represent the most disadvantaged group

1,2,4-Triazole-derived oxime ether derivatives: Synthesis, characterization, in vitro tyrosinase inhibition properties and in silico studies

    No full text
In the present study, a series of novel oxime ether derivatives bearing a 1,2,4-triazole moiety were synthesized, and the inhibitory effects of these compounds on tyrosinase were investigated. As is widely recognized, tyrosinase is a key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of melanin, the pigment responsible for the coloration of skin, hair, and eyes. It catalyzes the oxidation of phenols, such as tyrosine, into quinones, which subsequently polymerize to form melanin. In addition to its role in biological pigmentation, tyrosinase contributes to the browning of fruits and vegetables. Its activity is tightly regulated, with implications for conditions like albinism and melanoma. Tyrosinase inhibitors are of great interest for cosmetic and therapeutic applications, particularly in managing hyperpigmentation disorders. The study is comprised of four parts. In the first part of the study, novel oxime ether derivatives were synthesized, and their structures were elucidated through the application of various analytical techniques, including FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. In the second part of the study, a series of computational analyses including DFT calculations, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to evaluate the inhibitory potential of the synthesized compounds against tyrosinase. In the subsequent part of the study, the inhibitory effects of the compounds on tyrosinase were examined in vitro. The outcomes of the in silico and in vitro investigations were then compared with those of the reference molecule, kojic acid. The findings demonstrated that some of the synthesized compounds exhibited comparable or enhanced tyrosinase inhibitory activity to that of kojic acid. In the final part of the study drug-likeness and ADME analyses were performed on the compounds and the results indicated that all the compounds were deemed to possess drug-like characteristics and substantial potential.Karabuk University [KBUBAP-23-YL-019]; Kocaeli University [FBA-2023-3427]This work was supported by the Research Fund of Karabuk University (grant number KBUBAP-23-YL-019). Biosystematics studies of endemic Thlaspi violascens Boiss. and T. densiflorum Boiss. & Kotschy: Highlights on molecular and morphological identification

    No full text
This study focuses on differentiating the endemic species Thlaspi violascens and T. densiflorum, which exhibit similar macromorphological characteristics and population appearances with utilizing molecular, anatomical, and micromorphological methods. The complete chloroplast genomes of both species have been sequenced for the first time using next-generation sequencing technologies, allowing for high-resolution analysis of their phylogenetic relationships. The isolated chloroplast genomes measure 152,693 base pairs for T. violascens and 152,718 base pairs for T. densiflorum. Phylogenetic analysis shows that species within the Thlaspi genus are monophyletically distinct from other genera. Although the average nucleotide diversity between the two species is low, whole-genome sequencing-based Skmer analysis has successfully enabled high-resolution species-level discrimination. Anatomically, the two species differ in several aspects, including the type of petiole tip, abaxial surface outline, epidermal cell size and layer count, petiole thickness, vascular bundle number, midrib lobes, mesophyll cell types, and collenchyma layer count. Micromorphological differences are also evident in the primary structures of the anther and ovary, as well as the secondary structures of the sepal and style. Overall, the study concludes that chloroplast genome data, petiolar anatomical features, and floral micromorphological traits can effectively distinguish between T. violascens and T. densiflorum.Bartimath;n University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [2023-FEN-TAP-001]This work was supported by the Bart & imath;n University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [grant numbers 2023-FEN-TAP-001]

Investigation of Non-Imaging CPVT systems designed based on axial tilt acceptance angle: experimental study and response surface methodology

    No full text
This study presents a novel approach by designing and evaluating non-imaging concentrators, including Vtrough, compound parabolic (CPC), and compound hyperbolic (CHC) concentrators optimized with the Earth's axial tilt acceptance angle to enhance solar energy utilization. Thermal and electrical performances and exergybased performance evaluations were experimentally analyzed to calculate useful energy production. Annual performance metrics and payback periods were assessed. Additionally, optimization analyses using response surface methods were conducted to examine interactions among operating parameters. The CPC system achieved the highest thermal and electrical performance, with an overall efficiency of 77.69 % and annual energy production of 103.23 kWh at a 300 ml/min flow rate. However, its higher initial cost extended the payback period to 7.31 years. In contrast, the V-trough system excelled in electricity generation, producing 77.72 kWh annually and demonstrating the minimum return on investment in 5.82 years. The CHC system showed significant efficiency improvements with increased flow rates, with an annual energy production of 81.94 kWh and a payback period of 6.77 years, while it was less effective under low solar radiation conditions. Results highlight the CPC's superior thermal performance, particularly under low radiation, while the V-trough demonstrated stability and economic viability. The findings highlight the importance of temperature management and flow rate optimization in enhancing CPVT system efficiency and longevity.IFS Collaborative Research Project [TUBITAK-2219]; [J25I016]The authors express their gratitude to the research program TUBITAK-2219 and the IFS Collaborative Research Project (No: J25I016) Tohoku University for their contributions

On statistical convergence in fractal analysis

    No full text
This study investigated the statistical convergence of fractal-generating set sequences, motivated by the observation that natural fractals, influenced by external biological, chemical, or physical factors, rarely exhibit strict classical convergence. Instead, their limiting behavior often aligns with statistical patterns. We formalized the concept of statistical convergence for compact subsets of Rn, introduced the notion of statistical Cauchy sequences, and established their sufficiency for statistical convergence-mirroring the classical relationship. Several illustrative examples and graphical simulations, including variants of the Sierpinski triangle and Koch snowflake, highlight the distinction between classical and statistical convergence. The proposed framework provides a more realistic and robust approach to understanding fractal structures in both theoretical and applied contexts.Fujian Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China [2024J01792]This work is supported by the Fujian Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 2024J01792)

Combined effects of agomelatine and 2600 MHz radiofrequency field on inflammation induced by chronic lipopolysaccharide administration

    No full text
The aim of this study is to investigate the potential synergistic effects of agomelatine(AGM) and 2600 MHz radiofrequency(RF) field exposure on inflammation induced by chronic lipopolysaccharide(LPS) administration in rats. A total of 49 female Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 7 groups(n = 7 per group): Control, Sham, LPS, LPS+AGM,LPS+RF,AGM+RF, and LPS+AGM+RF. Animals in the RF groups were exposed to a 2600 MHz field (1 h/day for 15 days). The whole-body averaged SAR was calculated to be 0.637 W/kg, while the localized SAR values were found to be 1.27 W/kg for 1 g and 0.91 W/kg for 10 g of brain tissue at a frequency of 2600 MHz. Chronic LPS administration(1 mg/kg/day for 15 days) successfully induced a systemic inflammatory state. The most significant finding was observed in plasma IL-6 levels. While AGM or RF exposure alone did not significantly alter IL-6 levels in LPS-treated animals, the combined treatment of LPS+AGM+RF resulted in a substantial and statistically significant decrease in plasma IL-6 compared to the sham group(p < 0.001). This represents a large-magnitude effect (Cohen's d = 1.59), suggesting a potent anti-inflammatory action of the combined therapy. In contrast, plasma IL-1 beta and TNF-alpha levels showed no statistically significant differences among any of the groups. In the hypothalamus, chronic LPS exposure was associated with a downregulation of MAP kinase signaling pathways (ERK, JNK), indicative of endotoxin tolerance, and with reduced NF-kappa B level. This study provides novel evidence that 2600 MHz RF, when combined with AGM, may exert a powerful anti-inflammatory effect, highlighting a potential therapeutic interaction that warrants further investigation.Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP) [01/ 2020-45]This study was supported by the Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP) [Project No: 01/ 2020-45]

Novice writers can use direct quotations excessively, ineffectively, or unconsciously for several reasons, including inadequate knowledge of how and when to use them in academic writing. Since the use of direct quotations in academic writing has not received due attention in previous studies, this corpus-based study sought to fill this gap in the literature by investigating the use of direct quotations and the frequency of reporting verbs introducing direct quotations. To this end, a corpus-based study was employed to observe the total number of directly quoted words and the frequency of reporting verbs used in direct quotations. The corpora consisted of 60 MA and PhD theses completed in Türkiye retrieved from Ulusal Tez Merkezi and 60 in the USA retrieved from ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global between 2015 and 2020 in English major departments for the analysis of recent theses. The quotations and reporting verbs introducing those quotations were manually identified for each thesis. The number of directly quoted words was normalized per 1000 words, and a log-likelihood test was applied to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the two corpora in terms of direct quotation use. The results showed that there is not a statistically significant difference between the two corpora regarding the frequency of direct quotations. For the reporting verbs, in the USA corpus, it was revealed that there are more frequent and various reporting verbs introducing direct quotations than in the Turkish corpus, although the most frequent reporting verbs were found to be similar. Pedagogical implications are also discussed

Internet addiction and cyberbullying are serious public health issues that are highly prevalent among adolescents. Research addressing the aforementioned concepts has significantly increased in the recent years. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, this paper presents the first systematic review of studies examining the relation among Internet addiction, cyberbullying, and cyber victimization. A literature review was conducted through Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Yöktez. A search of four electronic databases indicated 2515 studies published between 2010 and 2022. The following inclusion criteria were considered for articles: (i) they made an objective assessment of cyberbullying and/or cyberbullying victimization and Internet addiction, (ii) they were conducted on adolescents, (iii) they were articles and theses published between 2010 and 2022, (iv) they were written in Turkish or English, (v) they were published theses or articles published in an academic refereed journal, and (vi) they were empirical studies with primary data. Accordingly, 29 empirical studies were included in the current review, involving 51,311 participants. The results revealed that Internet addiction positively associated with cyberbullying and cyber victimization. In this context, taking the relevant variables together in the research, education and intervention programs to be conducted on these variables will allow more accurate and effective results to be obtained.İnternet bağımlılığı ve siber zorbalık ergenler arasında oldukça yaygın olan ciddi bir halk sağlığı sorunudur.

From 'Know thyself!' to 'Be your true self': free will belief as a mediator in the relationship between internal state awareness, appearance consciousness, style consciousness, and social anxiety with authenticity

    No full text
Authenticity is a crucial concept in psychological well-being, with growing scientific significance and social relevance. One psychological factor associated with authenticity is self-consciousness. However, the literature contains few and inconsistent empirical findings regarding the relationship between different self-consciousness dimensions and authenticity. This study examines how self-consciousness dimensions relate to authenticity among young adults in Turkey, with a focus on the role of free will belief. Using Existential Psychotherapy Theory, the research examined the relationship between self-consciousness and authenticity, and how free will belief relates to it. 446 young adults in Turkey participated in the study via an online survey. Structural equation modeling results showed that internal state awareness and appearance consciousness were positively associated with authenticity, while style consciousness and social anxiety were negatively associated with it. Free will belief was statistically associated with the relationships between internal state awareness-authenticity (partial mediating), appearance consciousness-authenticity (partial mediating), and style consciousness-authenticity (partial mediating). These findings suggest that free will belief may be related to the effect of self-consciousness on authenticity. Higher levels of internal awareness and appearance consciousness, along with stronger free will belief, were associated with higher authenticity scores. Conversely, higher style consciousness, along with lower free will belief, was associated with lower authenticity scores. The results suggest that further investigation into the ways in which internal awareness, expectations about external appearance, and free will belief relate to authenticity, may be useful in clinical practice. These findings are related to the propositions of Existential Psychotherapy Theory and shed light on the role of self-consciousness dimensions and free will belief in understanding authenticity.Bartin UniversityThe author would like to express gratitude to all the young adults who participated in this study. Their willingness to share their experiences and insights was invaluable to this research
