Synthesis, antiproliferative activity targeting lung cancer and in silico studies of hydroxypiperidine substituted thiosemicarbazones
This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of 13 novel hydroxypiperidine-substituted thiosemicarbazone derivatives (5a-m) for their anticancer activity and enzyme inhibition properties. The compounds were tested for cytotoxicity against A549 lung cancer and BEAS2B non-cancerous cells, with compound 5f (R = 2,3-dichlorophenyl) demonstrating the lowest IC50 value of 0.58 µM and high selectivity (SI = 28.9) for A549 cells. Enzyme inhibition assays revealed that 5f exhibited potent inhibition against human carbonic anhydrase isoforms hCA I and hCA II, with the lowest IC50 and Ki values. Molecular docking studies showed that 5f had the best binding affinity across multiple targets, including hCA isoforms, VEGFR-2, and BRAF, further supported by favorable MM-GBSA binding free energy calculations. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the stability and key interactions in the 5f-protein complexes. ADMET predictions indicated that 5f has favorable drug-likeness and low organ toxicity risk, showing good permeability and oral absorption potential. These findings suggest that 5f is a promising lead compound for further development as a multi-target therapeutic agent for lung cancer. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

Enhanced thermal properties and dimensional stability of wood treated with phase-change materials for building energy storage applications
This study investigated the thermal-energy storage (TES) properties of Scots pine wood impregnated with lauryl alcohol (LAOH) and methyl palmitate (MP). These phase-change materials (PCMs) were selected for their adaptability to different climatic conditions. To enhance dimensional stability and minimize leakage of PCMs, a 50:50 mixtures of PCMs and epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) was used. Comprehensive analyses were conducted, including water absorption (WA), water repellent efficiency (WRE), anti-swelling efficiency (ASE), mechanical properties, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed significant improvements in dimensional stability, particularly with the PCM-ELO combination. DSC results showed that melting enthalpies of 88.4 J/g for LAOH-treated wood and 100.8 J/g for MP-treated wood, with corresponding melting temperatures of 18.3 degrees C and 20.2 degrees C, respectively. These values remained stable phase transition temperatures even after 600 thermal cycles, demonstrating strong thermal reliability. Mechanical test revealed an improvement in the modulus of elasticity (MOE), with values of 18.31GPa for LAOH-treated samples and 18.13GPa for MP-treated samples. Thermoregulation tests indicated reduced temperature fluctuations, with peak temperatures during heating lowered by 7.2 degrees C and 6.5 degrees C for LAOH and MP treatments, respectively.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK) [120N500]This study was conducted as part of the Smart Energy Systems Research and Innovation Program (ERA-Net E2B2) under the project titled Bio- Based Phase Change Materials Integrated into Lignocellulose Matrix for Energy Storage in Buildings (BIO-NRG-STORE). Postmodern Approaches in Group Psychotherapies: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Positive Group Therapy
Group psychotherapy has been demonstrated by numerous studies to be a highly effective treatment method in various areas, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, and interpersonal relationships. It also cheaper than individual psychotherapy. The success of the therapeutic relationship and process critically depends on the professionals who conduct group psychotherapy adopting a specific theoretical orientation and framework. Accordingly, this study aims to compile the fundamental elements, session flow, therapist’s role, and processes of three contemporary postmodern group approaches, namely acceptance and commitment group therapy, schema group therapy, and positive group psychotherapy. While these have gained popularity in other countries, they remain relatively unused in Türkiye. The compiled information will be of benefit to professionals who engage in group interventions and students interested in receiving education on group therapies
Rotational hypersurfaces family satisfying Ln-3G=AG in the n-dimensional Euclidean space
In this paper, we investigate rotational hypersurfaces family in n-dimensional Euclidean space En. Our focus is on studying the Gauss map Gof this family with respect to the operator Lk, which acts on functions defined on the hypersurfaces. The operator Lk can be viewed as a modified Laplacian and is known by various names, including the Cheng-Yau operator in certain cases. Specifically, we focus on the scenario where k = n - 3 and n >= 3. By applying the operator Ln-3 to the Gauss map G, we establish a classification theorem. This theorem establishes a connection between the n x n matrix A, and the Gauss map Gthrough the equation Ln-3G=AG. (c) 2025 Elsevier Inc. Cognitive consequences of occupational stress in underground mine workers: Neuropsychological observational study
This research examines the cognitive impairment due to underground mine workers' working conditions. This study included 52 underground coal miners and 48 above-ground workers equivalent in age, education level, and working hours. In order to evaluate the cognitive skills of the participants, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Tower of London Test, Stroop Test, Judgement of Line Orientation Test, Oktem-Verbal Memory Process Test, and Trial Making Test were applied. In the group comparisons, a statistically significant difference was found in the performance of the 2 groups in all cognitive skills except the Judgment of Line Orientation Test. Occupational stress and duration of working underground explain nearly 40% of the cognitive performance variance. Accordingly, the scores obtained from the tests showed that underground mine workers had worse cognitive test scores than the control group. This study examined differences in neuropsychological performance among miners, emphasizing the impact of occupational risk factors. Key cognitive impairments were identified in short- and long-term memory, cognitive flexibility, set-switching, and planning abilities. Additionally, education level, work duration, and occupational stress significantly predicted cognitive performance. Higher education emerged as a protective factor by enhancing cognitive reserve, while longer work duration and increased occupational stress exacerbated cognitive decline, likely due to prolonged exposure to risk factors. These findings highlight the importance of addressing occupational hazards and stress to protect cognitive health, particularly given the role of these factors as potential contributors to neurodegenerative disease risk in later life.Bartin University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [2023-SOS-TAP-001]This work has been supported by Bartin University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit under grant number 2023-SOS-TAP-001
