    Investigating the Mediating Effects of Perceived Memory-Sharing Functions on Event Centrality and Self-Compassion Relationship Among Turkish Children When Parents Are the Listeners

    Bu çalışma, Türkiye örnekleminde, beliren yetişkinlikte suçluluk anılarının ebeveynler ile paylaşımının öz-şefkat seviyelerini nasıl etkilediğinin altında yatan örüntüleri, özellikle ebeveyn dinlemesine odaklanarak incelemektedir. Bu araştırmanın temel amaçlarından biri cinsiyet temelli bir analiz gerçekleştirerek, anne ve babaların çocukların anlatıları üzerindeki farklı etkilerini karşılaştırmaktır. Bu araştırma beliren yetişkinlik döneminde suçluluk temalı anıların merkeziliği ile öz-şefkat arasındaki ilişkiyi ebeveynler ile paylaşılan anıların algılanan işlevleri (yönlendirici, duygu düzenleme, benlik ve sosyal) aracılığıyla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Aracı analizlerin yanı sıra, dinleyicinin cinsiyetine göre t-testleri yürütülmüştür. Türkiye'deki farklı şehirlerden 308 erkek ve kadın katılımcı çevrimiçi anketleri doldurmuş. Sonuçlar, anı paylaşımında algılanan sosyal işlevinin, beliren yetişkinlikte olay merkeziliği ile öz-şefkat arasındaki olumsuz ilişkiyi tamponlama eğilimindeyken, benlik işlevinin bu olumsuz ilişkiyi yoğunlaştırdığını ortaya koymuştur. Dahası, çoğu katılımcının olumsuz anılarını paylaşırken annelerini dinleyici olarak tercih ettiği gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca, katılımcıların tercih edilen dinleyici baba olduğunda benlik ve yönlendirici anı paylaşım işlevlerini algılama olasılıklarının yükseldiği de elde edilen bulgular arasındadır. Buna karşılık, dinleyici anne olduğunda katılımcıların anı paylaşırken ağırlıklı olarak sosyal işlevi algıladıkları ortaya konmuştur. Sonuçlar literatür ışığında tartışılmıştır.This study examines patterns underlying how Turkish emerging adults sharing memories of guilt with their parents impacts their self-compassion, with a focus on parental listening. One main objective of this paper is to conduct gender-based analyses comparing the influence of parents, separately mothers' and fathers' impacts as listeners, on their children's outcomes as narrators. This research aimed to investigate the relationship between emerging adult children's event centrality of their guilt memories and their self-compassion scores through perceived functions of memory-sharing with their parents (directive, emotion regulation, self, and social). Besides mediational analyses, t-tests were conducted based on the listener's gender. 308 Turkish male and female participants from different cities filled online surveys. The results revealed that while the perceived social function of memory-sharing tends to buffer the negative relationship between emerging adults' event centrality and self-compassion, the self-function appears to intensify this negative relationship. Moreover, most participants preferred their mothers as listeners when sharing their negative memories. Furthermore, participants were more likely to perceive self and directive memory-sharing functions when the preferred listener was the father. In contrast, participants predominantly opted for the social function when the listener was the mother. Results are discussed in light of the literature

    The effect of the intensive care unit nurse manpower on care behaviours and stress level on the nurses

    BACKGROUND: Nurses working in the intensive care units (ICU) regarding the work-index-nursing work environment, the effect level ICU environment has on the nurses' care behaviors and stress levels of the nurses should be determined.OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to investigate the effect of the nurse manpower on care behaviours and stress level of the nurses working in the ICU.METHODS: This was a cross-sectional and correlational study. The sample of the study consisted of 123 nurses working in the ICUs. The data were collected using the survey form, Distress Thermometer (DT), The Practice Work Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI), and Caring Behaviors Scale-24 (CBS-24).RESULTS: The mean age of nurses in the ICU was 30.2 +/- 5.6 and the mean of working time in the intensive care unit of nurses in the ICU was 3.7 +/- 3.1 years. The mean of the DT was 4.8 +/- 3.4, and the mean score of PES-NWI was 2.6 +/- 1.0 and the mean score of CBS-24 was 4.7 +/- 1.1 in nurses in the ICU. The regression model which was studied to investigate the relationship between caring behaviors and stress and nurse manpower of nurses working in intensive care unit was significant.CONCLUSION: Care behaviors and stress levels of nurses working in intensive care units are negatively affected by insufficient nurse manpower

    Children's social media use behaviors according to parents' social media addiction and methods used by parents

    Aim: The objective of the present study is to ascertain how parents' social media addiction affects their children's social media use behaviors and the methods employed by parents to manage this situation. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 218 parents of children between the ages of 7-18. The collection of data was facilitated by two instruments: the Parent-Child Information Form and the Social Media Addiction Scale. Results: The present study has revealed that 41.6 % of parents are addicted to social media. Conversely, parents who do not manifest symptoms of social media addiction exhibit a heightened level of awareness regarding their children's social media accounts and demonstrate a more deliberate approach. The predominant methods employed by parents to restrict their children's access to social media included directing them towards sports activities (71.7 %) and fostering peer interaction (37.2 %). Conversely, parents grappling with social media addiction have adopted more stringent measures, including the deliberate confiscation of devices, with the aim of curtailing their children's access to social media. Conclusion: The relationship between parents' social media addiction and their children's social media use is a complex one. While children of addicted parents demonstrate a higher propensity for social media usage, parents endeavour to restrict their children's exposure to this environment. Practical & imath;mplications: Nurses and health professionals can play a pivotal role in raising awareness among families and providing guidance to children on the safe use of the internet.     Utilization of orange peel waste for activated carbon production and its application in particleboard for formaldehyde emission reduction

    Activated carbon (AC) is valued for its large surface area, porosity, and chemical adsorption properties, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. Its most common sources are coconut shells, wood, and coal - all of which are costly or harmful to the environment. It is thus important to finding sustainable feedstock, such as agricultural waste. Inexpensive materials like waste orange peel have been used in the production of AC. This study explores the synthesis of AC from orange peel waste through phosphoric acid (H3PO4) activation for potential applications in reducing volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde emissions in particleboard production. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to examine AC. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of AC was 497 m2g(-)(1). The addition of AC to urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesive enhanced cross-linking and condensation reactions, improving the mechanical and physical properties of particleboards without compromising integrity. The effects of AC on formaldehyde emissions were assessed at 0 and 3 months. Compared to the control group, particleboards with AC showed a 28.98% reduction in free formaldehyde emissions at 0 months and a 45.25% reduction at 3 months.     A path-free modelling approach for the traffic counting location problem

    Efficient sensor placement enhances traffic management, planning, and flow control by providing real-time traffic information. Given that the quality of this information is closely linked to sensor locations, this paper aims to find the optimal location of minimum number of counting sensors to efficiently monitor all origin--destination (OD) trips. This problem is known as the Traffic Counting Location Problem (TCLP) in the literature. For this problem, the paper presents a path-free modelling approach, along with a search space reduction procedure. The proposed approach removes the need to explicitly track paths between all OD pairs as well as excluding unnecessary route observations. This greatly reduces the solution return time and memory usage for the TCLP, showed in extensive computational experiments tested on well-known transportation networks and randomly generated networks. Specifically, the best existing method in the literature has demonstrated effectiveness only for networks with fewer than 2,000 nodes. In contrast, the proposed solution methodology in this paper successfully addresses networks exceeding 15,000 nodes, substantially extending the scalability of exact approaches in solving the TCLP. Hence, this paper fills a significant gap in the TCLP literature by introducing an efficient exact approach that rapidly generates optimal solutions for medium-scale networks, and provides, for the first time, an optimal solution of TCLP for many large-scale networks. This advancement contributes to the development of intelligent transportation systems in smart cities, facilitating better traffic management and improving overall urban efficiency

    Sanal Gerçekliğin (VR) Kelime Öğretiminde Kullanımının Kelime Dağarcının Tutulması ve Öğrenme Motivasyonu Üzerindeki Etkileri

    This research explored the impact of integrating virtual reality (VR) in vocabulary teaching on both vocabulary retention and learning motivation among students at an English preparatory school affiliated with a foundation university in Istanbul. The study involved 47 participants, with the experimental group (25) receiving vocabulary instruction through VR-integrated activities, while the control group (22) was taught the same vocabulary using traditional methods. Spanning over 15 weeks, the study included various tests, quizzes and semi-structured interviews. Statistical analysis was applied to the test results, while discourse analysis was utilized for the interview data. The findings revealed that VR integration significantly enhanced both short-term and long-term vocabulary retention compared to traditional methods. This indicates that VR not only helps students remember new words but also reinforces their vocabulary over time. Moreover, the VR-based approach had a positive impact on students' motivation, with many participants reporting greater enthusiasm and engagement during lessons. It also improved productivity and interaction among students, creating a more dynamic classroom environment. The VR activities facilitated vocabulary acquisition, enhanced comprehension, and helped students develop advanced pronunciation skills. Additionally, students reported that the immersive VR experience offered valuable cultural insights into countries where the target language is spoken, which further enriched the learning process. In conclusion, the findings demonstrate that VR is an effective and innovative tool for teaching vocabulary. It offers numerous pedagogical benefits, including improved retention, motivation, engagement, and comprehension, and enhances the overall language learning experience. The research suggests that VR-based vocabulary teaching can be a transformative tool in modern language education.Bu araştırma, bir vakıf üniversitesine bağlı İngilizce hazırlık okulundaki öğrenciler üzerinde sanal gerçekliğin (VR) kelime öğretimine entegre edilmesinin hem kelime dağarcının korunması hem de kelime öğrenme motivasyonu üzerindeki etkilerini incelemiştir. Çalışma, VR entegre edilmiş etkinliklerle kelime öğretimi yapılan deney grubu öğrencileri (25) ve aynı kelimelerin geleneksel yöntemlerle öğretildiği kontrol grubu öğrencilerinden(22) oluşan 47 katılımcıyı içermektedir. 15 hafta süren araştırmada çeşitli testler, kısa sınavlar ve yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Test sonuçlarına istatistiksel analiz uygulanırken, mülakat verileri için söylem analizi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, VR entegrasyonunun kelime dağarcığının kısa ve uzun vadeli korunmasında geleneksel yöntemlere göre önemli bir fark yaratığını ve VR tabanlı öğretimin kelime öğrenimini daha kalıcı hale getirdiğini göstermektedir. Buna ek olarak, VR tabanlı öğretim, öğrencilerin motivasyonunu arttırmış, derslere olan katılım düzeylerini yükseltmiş ve etkileşimli bir öğrenme ortamı yaratmıştır. Bu ortam, öğrencilerin yalnızca kelime edinimini değil, aynı zamanda anlama becerilerini, dil bilgisi ve telaffuz düzeylerini de geliştirmiştir. Katılımcılar, VR etkinliklerinin dil öğrenme sürecini daha sürükleyici ve eğlenceli hale getirdiğini, bu sayede öğrenmeye olan ilgilerinin arttığını belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca, VR etkinlikleri, öğrencilere hedef dilin konuşulduğu ülkeler hakkında kültürel içgörüler sunarak, dil öğrenmenin ötesine geçip kültürel bir boyut kazandırmıştır. Bu, öğrencilerin dil bilgilerini sadece teorik düzeyde değil, aynı zamanda gerçek dünya bağlamında da geliştirmelerini sağlamıştır. Sonuç olarak, araştırma bulguları, VR'nin kelime öğretimi için etkili ve yenilikçi bir araç olduğunu, öğrencilerin öğrenme motivasyonlarını artırarak öğrenme sürecini daha verimli hale getirdiğini ve pedagojik faydalar sunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca, VR tabanlı öğretimin, dil öğrenme deneyimini zenginleştirerek, öğrencilerin daha aktif ve katılımcı bir şekilde öğrenmelerine olanak tanıdığı vurgulanmıştır. Bu çalışma, VR'nin dil öğretimi alanında sunduğu potansiyeli ve faydaları daha geniş bir perspektiften değerlendiren gelecekteki araştırmalar için önemli bir temel oluşturmuştur

    Günümüzde küresel iklim değişikliğinin etkilerinin yoğun biçimde hissedilmesiyle birlikte, kentsel açık yeşil alanlardaki bitkilerin yaşamlarını sürdürebilmesi ve bu alanların devamlılığının sağlanması için kullanılan su miktarı ciddi seviyelere ulaşmıştır. Bu durum, suyun daha verimli ve stratejik bir şekilde yönetilmesi gerekliliğini gündeme taşımıştır. Son yıllarda, dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de yaşanan kuraklıklar, kentsel açık yeşil alanlarda suyun bilinçli kullanımını esas alan kurakçıl peyzaj yaklaşımının önemini giderek artırmıştır. Bu bağlamda yürütülen çalışmada, BEÜN Farabi Kampüsü'nde sürdürülebilir bir kentsel yeşil doku oluşturulmasına katkı sunmak amacıyla, yoğun biçimde kullanılan üç alanın kurakçıl peyzaj ilkeleri doğrultusunda yeniden tasarlanması hedeflenmiş ve bu kapsamda örnek bitkisel tasarım projeleri hazırlanmış uygulamaları gerçekleştirilmiştir.Today, with the effects of global climate change being felt intensely, the amount of water used to sustain the life of plants in urban open green areas and to ensure the continuity of these areas has reached serious levels.     Gazavât-ı Hayreddin Paşa (vr. 200b-396a) Adlı Eserde Geçen Yabancı Kökenli Denizcilik Terimleri

    Ghaza, an Arabic word, is the name given to the wars fought against non-Muslims in order to protect the Islamic religion and spread it to other regions. Ghazavât is the name given to the plural form of the word gaza according to Arabic rules. In addition, works in which the battles and wars fought for the sake of religion are described are called gazavatname as a literary genre. As a matter of fact, the work named Gazavât-ı Hayreddin Pasha is considered an example of gazavâtname as a genre. In this Ghazavât, the life of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, one of the most famous sailors of the Ottoman Empire, and especially the wars he participated in, are written in an enthusiastic style and simple language. In this study, maritime terms in different languages in the pages 200b-396a of the work titled Gazavât-ı Hayreddin Pasha, registered in the Turkish Manuscripts Department of Istanbul University Library, number 2639, were examined and examples from the text related to these terms were given. Accordingly, the aim of the article is to show the foreign language words in a text written in Old Türkiye Turkish in the 16th century. In the article, literature review was used as a method, and word meanings were examined from the Turkish Language Association Dictionary, Kubbealtı Dictionary, A Comprehensive Persian-English Dictionary and The Lingua Franca In The Levant Turkis Nautical Terms Of Italian and Greek Origin and the article Ottoman Piracy in the Western Mediterranean and the Ghaza Issue. According to the findings of the study, a total of 70 maritime terms of foreign origin were found, 8 from Arabic, 6 from Persian, 1 from Dutch, 1 from French, 1 from Spanish, 48 from Italian and 5 from Greek.Arapça bir kelime olan gaza, İslam dinini korumak ve onu diğer bölgelere yayabilmek maksadıyla Müslüman olmayan kişilerle yapılan savaşlara verilen addır. Gazavât ise gaza kelimesinin Arapça kurallara göre çoğul eki almış şekline verilen isimdir. Bununla birlikte din uğruna yapılan savaşların ve cenklerin anlatıldığı eserlere de edebî tür olarak gazavâtname adı verilmektedir. Nitekim Gazavât-ı Hayreddin Paşa adlı eser de tür olarak gazavâtname örneği sayılmaktadır. Bu Gazavât'ta, Osmanlı Devleti'nin en ünlü denizcilerinden biri olan Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa'nın hayatı ve özellikle de katıldığı savaşlar coşkulu bir üslup ve sade bir dil ile yazılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, İstanbul Üniversitesi Kütüphanesi Türkçe Yazmalar Bölümü 2639 numarada kayıtlı olan Gazavât-ı Hayreddin Paşa adlı eserin 200b-396a yaprakları arasında yer alan farklı dillerdeki denizcilik terimleri incelenmiş ve bu terimler, ilgili metindeki kullanımlarıyla gösterilmiştir. Buna göre makalenin amacı 16. yüzyılda Eski Türkiye Türkçesi ile yazılmış bir metnin içindeki denizcilikle ilgili yabancı kökenli sözcükleri gösterebilmektir. Makalede yöntem olarak literatür taraması kullanılmış, Türk Dil Kurumu Sözlüğü, Kubbealtı Lugatı, Steingass'ın Farsça-İngilizce Sözlüğü ve The Lingua Franca In The Levant Turkish Nautical Terms Of Italian And Greek Origin sözlüğünden ve Batı Akdeniz'de Osmanlı Korsanlığı ve Gaza Meselesi makalesinden kelime anlamları incelenmiştir. Çalışmada elde edilen bulgulara göre Arapçadan 8, Farsçadan 6, Felemenkçeden 1, Fransızcadan 1, İspanyolcadan 1, İtalyancadan 48 ve Rumcadan 5 tane olmak üzere toplamda yabancı kökenli 70 tane denizcilik terimi bulunmuştur

    Comparison of the Effects of Brominated Perylenediimide and Perylene Tetraester Modified G-C3N4 S-Scheme Nanocomposites on the Photocatalytic Degradation of Anionic and Cationic Dyes and Herbicide

    Metal-free g-C3N4 (graphitic carbon nitride) is a promising candidate for the next-generation visible light-responsive photocatalyst; however, the recombination and transfer of the photogenerated charge carriers restrict its photocatalytic performances. The exfoliated g-C3N4 sensitized with brominated perylenediimide (dBrPDI) and perylene tetraester (dBrPTE) enhances the photocatalytic performance due to improved charge separation, light absorption, charge transfer and, thereby, overall efficiency in pollutant degradation. The g-C3N4/dBrPTE hybrid composite exhibits the fastest photocatalytic degradation against rhodamine B (RhB) pollutants. The g-C3N4/dBrPTE hybrid composite degrades RhB with a 2.34-fold improvement over pure g-C3N4, while the g-C3N4/dBrPDI hybrid composite degrades with a 1.56-fold increase over pure g-C3N4. The g-C3N4/dBrPDI hybrid composite shows the highest photocatalytic efficiency against methyl orange (MO) pollutants. The g-C3N4/dBrPDI hybrid composite degrades MO with a 2.25-fold improvement over pure g-C3N4, while the g-C3N4/dBrPTE hybrid composite degrades with a 1.8-fold increase over pure g-C3N4. Unlike MO and RhB, the perylene dye sensitization does not enhance the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-dichloro phenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and no sustained increase in efficiency is not observed. Overall, these results suggest that photocatalytic efficiency depends not only on the sensitized photocatalyst material but also on the interaction between the sensitized photocatalyst and the chemical and ionic properties of the pollutants in the aquatic media.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [223M560]; TUBITAKThis study was supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the Grant No. 223M560.     Yapım Teknikleri ve Estetik Özellikleriyle Erzurum'daki Osmanlı Dönemi Ahşap Cami Kapıları

    In this study, the physical characteristics and construction techniques of wooden entrance doors belonging to historical mosques built during the Ottoman Empire period in the city center of Erzurum were examined. For this purpose, the main entrance doors of 17 mosques that have survived to the present day and have been registered as cultural heritage and placed under protection were examined in terms of construction techniques, material types, metal accessories, lock and hinge systems, supported by photographs and elevation drawings within a chronological framework. According to the conducted analysis, it was determined that the construction of the doors involved the use of two main techniques: the mortise-and-tenon (çatma) and nailing (çakma) methods. In terms of ornamentation, fine corded lines were especially observed around the mirror panel (ayna), and it was also found that the accessories used on the doors mainly served decorative purposes, featuring metal rosettes with vegetal motifs. Thus, the characteristic features of the wooden entrance doors of historical Ottoman mosques in Erzurum were identified and documented through inventory forms and supporting photographs, ensuring their transmission to future generations. Furthermore, this study revealed that the repairs applied to the wooden doors during restoration works in historical Ottoman mosques in Erzurum were not carried out in accordance with appropriate techniques. It is therefore recommended that future restoration practices be conducted in a manner that does not damage the texture of the wooden material.Bu araştırmada, Erzurum şehir merkezinde bulunan ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu Dönemi'nde inşa edilen tarihi camilere ait ahşap giriş kapıların fiziksel özellikleri ve yapım teknikleri incelenmiştir. Bu maksatla günümüze kadar ulaşabilen ve kültürel miras olarak tescillenip koruma altında alınmış 17 adet camiye ait ana giriş kapılarının yapım tekniği, malzeme türü, metal aksesuarları, kilit ve menteşe sistemleri görsel resimler ve görünüş çizimleri ile kronolojik bir sistem dâhilinde incelenmiştir. Yapılan incelemeye göre kapı üretimlerinde; yapım tekniklerinden çatma ve çakma tekniklerinin uygulandığı belirlenmiştir. Kapı süslemelerinde de özellikle ayna etrafında ince kordonlu hatların mevcut olduğu; bununla beraber kapılarda kullanılan aksesuarların ise daha çok süsleme amaçlı ve bitkisel motifli metal rozetlerin oluğu tespit edilmiştir. Böylece Erzurum'daki tarihi Osmanlı camilerine ait ahşap giriş kapılarının karakteristik yapıları envanter form ve destekleyici fotoğraflarla tespit edilip belgelenerek gelecek nesillere aktarımı sağlanmıştır. Ayrıca yapılan bu çalışmada Erzurum'daki tarihi Osmanlı camilerinde gerçekleştirilen restorasyonlarda ahşap kapılara uygulanan onarımların tekniğine uygun olarak yapılmadığı görülmüş olup bundan sonra yapılacak olan benzer restorasyon uygulamalarında ahşap malzemenin dokusuna zarar verilmeden gerçekleştirilmesi önerilmektedir
