    No full text
When reading is considered as a lifelong learning activity, it is critical to diversify and expand the activities aimed at developing reading skills in primary school. Students are encouraged to keep reading diaries in order to help them develop reading habits, to give them the opportunity to reflect on the texts they read, and to record their personal reflections about the book. The aim of this study is to analyse primary school students' reading diaries. In this study, case study method, one of the qualitative approaches, was used. In this study, typical case sampling was preferred in order to select and analyse average examples of reading diaries. The study was conducted with the fourth grade students of a primary school in Şanlıurfa province and 37 students participated in the study. The data collection tool of the study was the reading diaries filled in individually by the students. The data obtained were analysed by content analysis. As a result of the research, the students wrote in their reading diaries the emotions generated by the book they read, basic information about the book, physical characteristics of the book, content characteristics of the book and their suggestions about the reading process of the book. Regarding the physical characteristics of the book they read, the students gave information about the size of the book and the visual features on the cover. It is noteworthy that students did not give information about the number of pages, page design and page structure of the book they read. Primary school students developed different suggestions for the book reading process in their diaries

On point-line displacement with elliptic screw motion

    No full text
The objective of this paper is to develop the concept of point-line displacement within the framework of elliptic space, denoted as Ra1,a2,a3. The study begins by summarizing the fundamental principles of elliptic dual quaternions and elliptic screw motion. Next, the notion of point-line displacement is rigorously defined in the context of elliptic inner product spaces, and its algebraic properties are thoroughly analyzed. Finally, the practical relevance of the proposed approach is demonstrated through an illustrative example that establishes the relationship between point-line geometry and the elliptic dual Euler-Rodrigues formula. Managing Peer-Feedback Resistance In Pre-Service Language Testing And Evaluation Course

    No full text
(10635) TEZ-YL-503-2021-10635This study examines the interactional practices of senior-year preservice teachers who are tasked with designing and constructing language tests as part of their coursework in the Language Testing and Assessment course, an essential component of the English language teaching curriculum. Building on the task of test construction, preservice teachers engage in group-based, reciprocal peer feedback sessions to identify potential issues in their test items and improve their overall quality, validity, and reliability. To closely examine the interactional dynamics unfolding during these item-review sessions, the study adopts a micro-analytic approach, conversation analysis, exposing the emotionally laden nature of peer feedback. The findings reveal that emotionally charged moments often gave rise to heightened resistance, rejection, and disagreement among peer feedback groups as a response to detailed peer reviews. Accordingly, the emergence of resistance and interactional misalignment among peers led to sequence expansion, involving iterative cycles of evaluation, justification, and recommendation until a joint consensus is achieved. Despite extensive research on resistance encounters in medical interviews, couples counseling, and service exchanges, the field remains notably deficient in studies examining peer feedback practices in the higher education context. Therefore, this study aims to fill this gap by exploring the dynamics of peer feedback interactions among preservice teachers, shedding light on how resistance unfolds and is managed through the emergent phenomenon, reference to testing principles.ORTA DOĞU TEKNİK ÜNİVERSİTESİ BİLİMSEL ARAŞTIRMA PROJELERİ KOORDİNASYON BİRİM

    No full text
Understanding tourists' word-of-mouth communication, destination preferences, and revisit intentions is important in the rapidly growing cruise tourism industry. Focusing on Amasra, an emerging cruise destination on the Black Sea coast of Turkiye, this study examines the connection between electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), destination image (DI) and tourists' revisit intentions (RI). Structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis of data collected from 235 tourists. The analysis results proved that eWOM has an influence on DI and RI, DI has an influence on RI, and there is a mediating role between eWOM and RI. These findings highlight the potential for developing destinations such as Amasra to promote the natural beauty, old texture and ethnic richness of the region to a wider audience and to create long-term loyalty by strengthening tourists' emotional attachment to the destination. The research highlights the role of relevant factors in the sustainable success of cruise destinations. Focusing on these factors can increase tourists' intention to revisit the destination through strategic marketing, public relations, and destination management efforts. This can support both economic gains and the long-term competitiveness of the destination

Electrochemical detection of bisphenol A in milk using copper/copper oxide-decorated N-doped carbon derived from copper-triazole/bacterial cellulose hybrids

    No full text
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on copper-triazole (Cu-MOF) were grown in situ on bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes to achieve highly dispersed MOF@BC hybrids to be used in electrochemical sensing applications. The Cu-MOF@BC hybrids were then used to obtain carbon structures decorated with Cu-species and Ndopants (Cu/CuO-N-C). The Cu/CuO-N-Cs were then used as electrocatalysts for detecting bisphenol A (BPA), also known for its endocrine disturbing effect. Bacterial cellulose (BC) support with abundant oxygen-containing groups enabled the growth of highly distributed MOF nanoparticles. In addition, the copper clusters incorporated in the MOFs showed remarkable conductivity. The sensors yielded a wide linear range of 1.0-11.0 mu M with a low detection limit of 30.5 nM against BPA. The sensors indicated good stability, selectivity, and reproducibility. The real sample experiments were conducted in milk, and the recoveries were measured between 102 % and 89.8 %, suggesting the applicability of the sensors for detecting BPA in real samples.Necmettin Erbakan University Research Fund; Turkish Higher Education Council YOK100/2000 program; [221219005]A. Drifting lives: psycho-social challenges of Turkish ocean-going seafarers from an occupational social work lens

    No full text
This study explores the psycho-social experiences of ocean-going seafarers through the lens of occupational social work. A grounded theory approach was employed, with data collected from 20 participants via in-depth interviews and analyzed using MAXQDA through open, axial, and selective coding. The analysis revealed a core category–‘The Ocean-Going Seafaring Experience’–comprising four interconnected themes: ‘Setting Off on a Long Voyage’, ‘The Long Voyage Process’, ‘Returning to Land’, and ‘Expectations and Requests’. These themes illustrate the emotional, social, and psychological challenges seafarers face throughout their work cycles. The study also examines their coping strategies and highlights the critical role of systemic and organisational support. Based on the findings, the study recommends structured interventions grounded in OSW principles, including pre-departure psycho-educational programs, family-inclusive support services, mental health counselling, and reintegration assistance to ease the transition back to land life. This research contributes to the limited literature on maritime occupational mental health and calls for coordinated employer, union, and state-level action to promote seafarers’ well-being in a sustainable manner. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

Investigation of mechanical and tribological properties of Sleipner cold work tool steel borided using different laser parameters

    No full text
This study comprehensively investigated the effects of different processing parameters on the tribological properties of Sleipner cold work tool steel subjected to boron coating using laser welding technology. The research evaluated the performance of boron coatings using two different laser power levels (1500 W and 1800 W) and two different oscillation frequencies (20 Hz and 40 Hz). Wear tests were conducted under dry ambient conditions at two different temperature levels: room temperature (25 °C) and high temperature (450 °C). XRD analyses revealed that FeB and Fe?B boride phases were successfully formed under all laser coating conditions. Optical microscopy examinations showed that more homogeneous coating structures were obtained at 1500 W laser power. In microhardness measurements, the highest value was obtained as 988.9 HV under conditions of 1500 W power and 20 Hz oscillation frequency, representing a 192% increase compared to untreated Sleipner steel (338.7 HV). Heat treatment application provided a 107% increase with 700.5 HV. Tribological tests were conducted under 10 N and 20 N loads using ball-on-disc and pin-on-disc configurations. Significant improvements in friction coefficient were observed for boron coatings under room temperature conditions. While the untreated (UT) specimen exhibited the highest friction coefficient values (~0.70 ? at 10 N, ~0.62 ? at 20 N), boron-coated specimens showed friction coefficients reduced to the 0.30-0.48 ? range. The lowest specific wear under room conditions was measured as 1.95 x 10-6 mm3/N·m for the 1500-20 specimen under 20 N load. However, under high temperature (450 °C) conditions, the performance of boron-coated specimens significantly decreased, with the most resistant structure observed in the heat-treated (HT) specimen at 1.62 x 10-6 mm3/N·m under 20 N. Among boron-coated specimens, the best performance was achieved in the 1800-40 specimen at 9.50 x 10-6 mm3/N·m under 20 N. SEM and EDS analyses revealed that the WC-Co ball maintained its structural integrity under room conditions, but experienced structural degradation at high temperature (450 °C) due to cobalt phase oxidation and tungsten transfer. In wear mechanisms, adhesive wear and tribosurface formation were dominant under room conditions, while intensive oxidation was observed at high temperature. In conclusion, laser-assisted boron coating can be successfully applied as an effective surface hardening method at room temperature, but alternative approaches should be considered for high-temperature applications
